Description

Choosing the right drumstick is all about feel. A stick's diameter, length, weight, type of wood, taper, tip and finish all determine the way it feels in your hand. There's a stick for every player and every style of music. To play your best, choose the stick that feels the best. After finding a size that feels good, you can confidently experiement with other models. The diameter of a stick in your hand is the primary element in its feel. Length and weight are also important. Shorter and lighter sticks produce a more delicate sound and may require more effort to play louder. Longer and heavier sticks produce greater intensity and allow you to play louder with less effort.Large sticks have a diameter from 15mm. Heavier in weight they are durable and loud. Supporting heavy cymbal use, they are ideal for louder play. Artists who play "L" sticks include Jason Bonham, Jason Bittner, Marco Minneman and Todd Sucherman.Weight, density, texture, resonance and flexibility all vary from one type of wood to another. For the best playing experience Weight, density, texture, resonance and flexibility all vary from one type of wood to another. For the best playing experience possible, choose sticks made from wood that feels right in your hands and projects the sound you want. Maple is a very light wood allowing for a large diameter without weight; small sticks are ultra light for precision and subtlety. The size of the tip's point of contact with the instrument determines tone and articulation. The differences can be very subtle. Wood tips generally produce a warmer sound, and nylon tips often produce a brighter, more articulate sound and are more durable. Experiment until you find the sound that you like. Acorn tips produce a dark, ringing tone; ideal for acoustic performance. The main effects of a stick's finish are on its grip and feel. Lacquer is the choice of most drummers. Lacquered sticks are smooth to the touch. This comfortable finish helps to reduce chafing and blisters. The SD531 Jason Bonham Autograph model features a relatively short taper and a large modified acorn-shaped wood tip for added power and volume.Houston, Texas-based Pro-Mark was founded in 1957 by Herb Brochstein. • I love these sticks, and came right back to buy some more!
Style: Claus Hessler
Generally, I don't like celebrity drummer signature sticks because they cost extra and have a tendency to be discontinued without notice. I've made an exception for these Claus Hessler sticks because the length, the diameter, the weight, the balance, the grip coating, the taper, and the tip are 100% perfect for my playing. The Firegrain is pretty, but I think it's essentially an aesthetic gimmick. ProMark's quality is exceptional and they have a great customer loyalty program. ... show more

Played thousands of sticks over the decades; every brand, every style. I enjoy the range of tonality, feel. The ActiveGrip is shockingly excellent. The density (and lack of clave-ness) unexpectedly excellent. The precision wonderful. These are 5A long with modified taper. Also bought 7A without ActiveGrip (and really miss it!) and that's just not enough weight when I want it. I'm looking for 6A long w/ modified taper and ActiveGrip -- which of these new marvels is closest to that, I wonder...bought a few more pairs of this Class Hessler version, too, for good measure. ... show more

  • Beefy but light maple sticks, good for players who want a rock stick without all the weight.
Style: Jason Bonham
These sticks are very different than I expected from the sizing information on Pro-Mark's website. Pro-Mark lists them as .595 inches in diameter, but when I put them next to what should be a thicker stick (a pair of Vic Firth SD9's listed as .610 inches in diameter on the VF website) the SD531W sticks seem a tad thicker. The shoulder has a very short taper and the stick is a 1/4" longer than the SD9, so even though these sticks are made of maple and are about the same weight as the SD9, they feel much "beefier" in my hands. They seem very well made (straight and well-matched) and live up to Pro-Mark's reputation for high quality. ... show more

  • Love these sticks
Style: Miguel Lamas
For whatever reason I’ve always preferred Pro Mark sticks and these are a perfect size (between a 5a and 5b), with the barrel tip that I prefer. Great balance as with all Pro Mark sticks.

  • nice quality build
Style: Bill Bruford
nice quality build, but i was hoping for more responsiveness, the taper is a bit forward and bulky , but i was glad to have tried them out... we should all know that we must be able to put our hands on a pair of sticks to really know them before buying. my bad

These sticks are great. Love the length and with the active grip it never falls out of my hands. They look super classy as well with the burnt look

  • Great Long Lasting Sticks!!!!
Style: Jason Bonham
Great sticks! I've been playing on the since April. Don't break if you have good technique. They are long but they have a really balanced weight and the feeling of maple is different, but comfortable. Great sticks for rock!
