  • Very Nice Projector
I was looking to replace a recently deceased ViewSonic PJD-6240 DLP projector but did not want to spend the over $700 to replace it (seeing how I stole the last one from a yard sale for $40.) I was happy to find projectors were running in the $75 to $300 range and set out to do extensive research to find a suitable replacement. This Poner Saund Model M8 seemed to have many good reviews and offered the legacy connections my installation required and HDMI which allows direct connection of the ROKU box so I can take full advantage of the higher resolution this projector provides. The one thing I could not quite discover was the facility to mount it on the ceiling and the actual size of the unit. As it turns out this projector is a bit larger than the ViewSonic and has four mounting screw locations compared to the three required on the ViewSonic. Luckily the tread size was the same because the screws that come with the Poner Saund where too short to be used with my homemade wooden ceiling mount. The valuable bit of information that was nowhere to be found in my search was the dimensions of the mounting points so I am publishing that here: 8-11/16"w X 6-3/16"d - see the picture and note you have to peel off the rubberized pads to expose the mounting points. I am quite satisfied with the projected image and am glad for the X-Y zoom adjustment which allows me to shrink the massive image projected from twelve feet back. And the 4 point keystone adjustment was a breeze to set. The settings menu is a bit "clunky" but gets the job done. I am a bit annoyed that even though I need to shrink the image to fit my screen the menu display still projects at the massive (Un-adjusted) display size. I did experience some lag (loss of lip-sync) when running the ROKU video via the RCA "Video-In" with the sound via a remote stereo auxiliary amp, so I decided to plug ROKU direct into the HDMI and use the projector's built-in speakers and found them to be quite adequate for day-to-day entertainment. I can still pipe-in video from the computer via the legacy video-in and see NO lag in synchronization via the auxiliary amp. I need to rethink my entertainment center in light of the available features of the new projector but all-in-all I think I made a really good choice with this projector. I was pleased to learn that the default settings were a midway setting and I still had a lot of brightness and contrast adjustment to play with. I have decided to run the fans on high speed (in the hopes of extending the life of the device and find the noise from the fans to be minimal and far quieter than the old ViewSonic even when running it in low speed mode. This is an attractive, well-made projector that seems well worth the money. In a darkened room the image is as crisp as any cinema and in daylight conditions still delivers a viewable image when projected on the matte-white, retractable screen installed in my viewing room. Delivered ahead of schedule - gotta love it ;) ... show more

  • Great entertainment projector
I used this projector for about a week and this projector is completely capable of performing daily entertainment tasks. This projector has 2 HDMI ports and various other legacy input types for backward compatibility. The HDMI ports are compatible with the USB C ports on MacBook, Nintendo Switch, and Fire TV stick. The projector also comes with an HDMI wire which seems to be pretty high quality. Now comes to the picture quality. I cannot pick anything that obviously needs improvement: the brightness allows me to see pictures cleanly at daytime as long as there isn’t direct sunlight, the quality of the picture is also satisfactory since it provides a great level of details and I did not notice any blurry while watching movies and playing games. The projector itself is also built with pretty reasonable quality: there are no sharp edges and all surfaces are smooth. The projector comes with a remote control that allows the easy navigation on the petty detailed menu, but I restored everything back to default since that’s already pretty good to me. The project itself also includes the same set of buttons and additional physical power switch to completely shut down the projector. The focus control on the projector allows a pretty big range of adjustment and I don’t have problems to make the picture perfectly clear on either a 5 ft distance or 30 ft distance. The projector also has a built-in speaker, and the volume can be quite loud if you want it to be. Of course, I don’t expect the speaker on a projector to be as good as my soundbar, but in case you don’t care too much about the sound, then this speaker is actually quite reasonable and allows one less device to be connected to the project. In addition, I noticed the noise from the fan is quite minimal, and the projector itself does not generate much heat. At the end of a 2 hours movie watching session, the projector only felt warm, but nowhere close to hot. Overall, I don’t have much to complain about this projector, it is totally suitable to be used as a daily entertainment projector, and the projector itself also looks nice enough that I don’t feel ashamed to set it up in open space of my living room. ... show more
