In my initial review, I noted that I was happy with my Chawke Ultrasonic Cutter initially but disappointed that it broke after a day of use. Thankfully, I was sent a replacement handle by the seller who provided excellent customer service. Early versions of the Chawke Ultrasonic Cutter appear to have had a design flaw in the handle that made the connections to the transducer susceptible to breakage due to vibrations. I was told that this has been fixed, however I would take caution and use this with care nonetheless. In my opinion, it is best for detail work or short bursts of heavier use. Be mindful to allow the handle to cool after prolonged use. That aside, I love this ultrasonic cutter! Its multiple power settings give you versatile control for cutting different materials and allow you to dial in the settings just right; it also offers higher power than other ultrasonic cutters at similar price points. The variety of blades available is a great aspect about this model as well. It performs well at cutting many materials that would otherwise be difficult or a mess to cut by other means. I have used it to shave wood, cut through plastic, and also cut through carbon fiber. It is one of the best ways to cut carbon fiber without releasing harmful dust into the air, making it safer compared to rotary tools or anything that grinds or mills the material. I would not recommend this for foams as the volume in foam means the vibrations can't be focused as necessary to cut. I would recommend a hot wire cutter or sharp blades for foam. The pro version of this ultrasonic cutter comes with a good amount of accessories that are all very helpful to use. I would highly recommend this over the basic version, as the price of all of these accessories alone is more than the difference in price between the two kits. It is worth the extra money. Overall, I would recommend the Chawke Ultrasonic Cutter over any other in its price range. It performs well above its price point. ... show more

The real deal! Cuts through, plastic, vinyl, wood, etc… slices through like a hot knife through butter. I have used Wonder cutter and Sonic Saber which barely cut through materials. The Chawke cuts like a laser. Highly recommended a great tool at its price point. Great customer service goes out of their way to be helpful. The selection of tips are an added bonus. ... show more

I opened the box, put it together, turned it on and it ran perfectly for about 10 seconds when there was a popping noise in the handle and it quit working. I saw in the instructions that it would only run for 20 seconds without overheating so I let it sit for awhile and tried it again. A high pitch noise came from the handle and it would not cut. I packed it up and returned it to Amazon. In addition to breaking almost immediately I cannot use a product that will only run for 20 seconds before it stops to cool off. ... show more

Very effective, but melts its way through the plastic of my 3D models when trying to cut the support structure from the model itself. The duty cycle in the lowest power wattage setting seems to be good enough for short trimming strokes on my 3D models, which is the primary reason for the purchase. It came with an ample supply of different cutting blades in reusable cases to suit my needs. When using the max power setting the duty cycle is very short. I was surprised with the amount of heat created at the blade from the ultrasonic action when trying to cut plastic. The knife melts the plastic rather than cut it even on the lowest power setting. I am sure it is a learning curve on my part to master the potential use of trimming the waste on the 3D models I print. ... show more

This product is poorly designed. It generates so much heat that it will burn your fingers when gripping the trigger, even through gloves, during long periods of cutting. This is my second ultrasonic cutter and a step up from what I began with. It is a strong performer as you can often see a bit of smoke as it cuts something dense. Just one thing bothers me. The transducer doesn't like to be powered up move than approximately 20 to 30-econds at a time followed by an equal rest period. If you go longer, and I do, the handle will become quite hot and I'm guessing this might be a point down because I can't imagine something that gets this hot lasting an entire year of use, yet at this juncture I can not say. ... show more
