The adjustable stand/cover does provide lens protection when closed. As for smudge resistance, the exterior smudges easily & did not clean off easily w/ GE computer lens cleaner. The soft texture inside coating immediately collected dust & debris. Overall it gets 4 stars for value priced quality & fit as described.
