Description

The Presto electric knife sharpener provides an easy, automatic way to sharpen most non-serrated kitchen and sport knives to a razor sharp edge. With a special two stage system, it precision grinds a perfect sharpening angle, then fine hones and polishes the edge for professional results at home, anytime. 120 volts AC. Features: Nonslip Base, Electric Sharpening, Preset Angles for Correct Sharpening, Sharpening Levels: Coarse and Fine All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. It really did sharpen my knives well, fast and easy. I never expected it to be so easy or sharpen my knives so quickly. All my life I have struggled just to keep my knives sharp enough. I’ve bought several knife sharpeners over time. NONE worked as this one does. It even sharpened my knife that is to be professionally sharpened. Sharpens quickly and well. This has two grinding wheels that put a 20 degree edge on steel knives. Most of my dull kitchen knives were sharp again with 3-4 passes through the fine wheel (right side). It took about a minute for each knife. In my case, I had 20-30 knives that had never been sharpened in 30 years, Pro sharpening services charge about $5 per knife, or $1-2 per inch of blade. I didn't want to pay $150 to sharpen knives once. I have sharpening stones, but didn't want to take the time or mess of doing it myself. So with this, I paid less than $40 and was able to sharpen all my knives in 30-40 minutes. It's not a fine polished razor edge, but it's great for most kitchen knives. Win. Works for steel knives - not ceramic. Works for 20 degree knives, which a common edge for inexpensive knives. Some high-quality knives are 15-17 degrees - They require a different sharpener. Worked for all the knives I had from paring to large. The coarse wheel will grind out nicks and chips or reprofile a blade to 20 degrees. My knives didn't need that. The Fine wheel puts on a sharp edge, It's not super fine and leaves a significant burr. Use a finer stone or a honing rod to remove the burr. I did not have any issues with burning or removing the temper from the metal. ... show more

I love this new gadget! Use directions included to create a kitchen full of sharp knife-ware, from steak knives to your favorite cutting and dicing cutlery. At first, I must admit, I did not read the instructions and did not get good results. I was about to send back but I knew I had not done my homework. Ut Oh!! So, I read the instructions. I followed the directions! And... voila! Works beautifully. My kitchen knives were all sharpened in a very short time. I am very happy with the results. As with most sharpeners, this one does not do serrated edges and does not do scissors. For this check out trying a Whetstone (manual method). I gladly recommend this product for its great, simple instructions and for quality sharpening in a fraction of time from manual sharpening. ... show more

I’ve tried so many knife sharpeners, but this one is by far the best. I really notice such a huge difference in my knives. Feels sturdy and high quality, too. I’m pleasantly surprised at the price of such a quality sharpener.

I am a Chef and I obviously use my knives more than most people. I also spend a LOT of money on buying quality knives ($75-150 each). The Presto 08800 EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener does what it says, it sharpens your knife, for that I give it 3 stars. Some points to ponder - Although it is easy to use, and sharpens quickly, it can be a little sensetive. You must not apply ANY pressure while sharpening. Doing so will bog the motor down and stop the stones in the middle of your knife. - They are course grit stones.....They eat away material quickly!!! I would try it on an old knife first. - It leaves a really bad bur. You may need to take it to a hand stone or strop to get it off if it bothers you. - The guides work, but the stones have a different angle and may pick it up off the guide a little. - Motor is not loud at all. Sharpening your knife is!!! - Gets knives as dull as butter knives sharp sharp sharp!! I did it to a 30 year old Chicago Cutlery knife that looked like it had never been sharpened, and it came out with a good edge. The Chicago knife used a VERY hard steel. I could not even get an edge with my wet stone! Now with the electric sharpener putting a good edge on it, I can make it even better with my wet stones. Like I said, I am a Chef and would not use them on my personal knives, i am sticking to wet stones for those, but I have taken the sharpener to work and sharpened the 14 knives we have in under 15 min! They stay sharp for a long time, and it is much faster than doing it by hand. So......I would say no for your expensive set of knives, but yes for a set that you did not pay much for. The sharpener just does not have a fine enough stone fore my liking. The best part of this product is the price. I would say best sharpener for the price. ... show more
