  • YOU NEED OIL - Here's the spec on maintenance
I got my generator yesterday. They are NOT shipped with oil (I knew this, but everyone doesn't). I couldn't find the spec for it online, so I waited for the unit and the owners manual to show up. Here's the information that I wished I could have found so I could have ordered everything all at once: At normal temps, you will need 16.9oz of 10w-30 4-cycle oil to fill it. It did come with a nice little funnel to add the oil. At cold temps (below 25 deg F) use 5w-30. Over 80 degrees F regular temps, use 30 weight. I'm not sure when I'll be using mine, so I've got the 10w-30 on order. Oil should be changed after the first 10 hours of use, then every 6 months or 100 hours of use. The spark plug should be replaced every year or 300 hours of use. I found a part # in the owners manual (100009386) which I think is a Champion L95YC plug (I found it via a Google cross-reference, so I'm not 100% sure)... I haven't confirmed that yet, but I bought 2 of those and will compare. The manual specifies gap 0.6-0.8mm (0.024-0.031 in) tightened to 10-20Nm torque (it comes with a plug wrench). There is a washable air filter in the unit, clean every 3 months or 50 hours of use. Wash it in liquid detergent (ex: Dawn dishwashing liquid), rinse thoroughly, wring out in towel to dry, pour engine oil over filter, work oil through filter, squeeze in paper towel to remove excess oil, re-install. I tend to keep gasoline (I buy premium from a good gas station like Shell/Chevron) in my garage for a year. I use Stabil gas treatment in it to keep it fresh and, every spring (spring cleanout), if I haven't used it I'll pour the gas into one of our cars and buy fresh. NOTE: The gas storage/quality/stabil tips are mine... the manual says to use regular gasoline of 87 Octane or better. -------------------- My oil arrived yesterday. I added the 16.9oz of 10w-30 4-cycle oil I bought (branded Generac) and a bit of fuel (93 octane w/ Stabil added for longevity). Gas cap vent open... choke out... red fuel valve to open... one gentle pull and the engine starts right up. I slid the choke in and it purred beautifully... even quieter than the Yamaha suitcase style that I had years ago (and sold with a trailer) that was supposed to be the quietest in the class. I'm very happy so far! ... show more

  • I think this is getting a bum rap!
I have only ran it a few times, With a total of about 10 hours. So I can not speak to it's longevity, It was very easy to setup and start. It has always started on the first or second pull. Has a good layout and instructions. So why the bad reviews? If you read many of the negative reviews. People are using it as a generator. Not an inverter (which it is). They are putting way to big of a load on it. It was not made for heavy industrial construction. What it can do in the event of a power outage, Run your fridge, a small air conditioner *or many fans", a TV, your router so you can have the internet.... while charging your phones (or other devices). The sine is very good, So no worries about damages to your electronics. You can take it camping, outings, picnics. So far it is a decent litte INVERTER/generator! If you want to mix cement then buy a brute power GENERATOR! Who cares about sensitive electronics. ... show more

  • This is what the vendor said when I called
So, I purchased this generator 4 months ago. I finally used it for my first tailgating opportunity and it was only running one 24 inch TV. After about 5 hours it started shutting down. After restart it would shut down again in 10 minutes with the overload light flashing red as it shut down. When I called Amerisuninc on September 7th to ask them about this problem, I was told that running it for 5 hours was a long time and that I shouldn’t run it so long as it gets hot. Really? It’s a generator and many generators around me on the same day I was tailgating ran for 10 hours or more with no issues. So, if my power goes out and I wanted to run my refrigerator, I better tell the power company that I only have 5 hours and they need to have my power back up by then. What a joke, I have never heard a manufacturer say that about their product - in this case a 2200W generator. Worse response ever and worse product I have ever bought. Please get a Ryobi, or Honda, or some other more reputable brand than Amerisuninc. I would like my money back as no where in their brochure or in the description do they ever mention this limitation. The brochure even says at 1/4 load it can run for 10.5 hours. Go figure, that’s a straight up lie! This happened again with using it outside to run my electric chainsaw. After running it for a few hours (on and off) it started shutting down again. It is truly a worthless generator. ... show more

I’m doing van life and bought this to top off my battery bank when solar isn’t enough. 1st off, I’m glad I bought this- I didn’t realize it would be as significant of an asset as it has proven to be. I used it more in the winter (less sun) than I do in the spring/summer: in the winter I would run it for about 3-4 hours a day, couple or few days a week… Here’s my notes: -As others said, run it once when you get it with regular (don’t need premium) gas for an hour, and IMMEDIATELY change the oil. I think the manual even says to do this. You’ll notice when you change the oil that the used oil looks like someone added glitter to it- that’s the metal shavings of the engine break in. I’d hate to think what would’ve happened if I hadn’t done this. - Of course don’t use it in the rain, but it didn’t seem to like when the air was damp and the ground was wet after a rain either. I have used it when it was sprinkling rain and it worked, but I wouldn’t make a habit of it. -The cap (that you have to vent to “open”) can be temperamental. I’ve taken the whole cap off a couple times to make it run. - When to change the oil..? It will tell you- it uses oil when running and it will start being harder to start, won’t run unless totally level, and finally, the oil light will come on when you pull the start. Change it with 5/30 and boom. Good as new! Been almost a year of running weekly, and it’s still solid 👍🏻 I’d buy again!!! ... show more
