Good generator for the price

Used for nearly a year now and it has done very well. I have used it to power a small corded electric chain saw to trim wood for the wood stove, an electric skillet to cook, to power the charger for the 60v batteries several of my tools use, and to power a selection of hand tools. It has done a great job. Just make sure to shut off the gas and let it run dry to keep the carb from gumming up when you are done. It does like to leave quite a bit of gas in the tank when it 'runs dry', but otherwise runs great. When it has no load on it the voltage fluctuates a lot, but it settles down when under a decent load (at least 100-150 watts). It will not charge most newer power stations as it can not keep the voltage consistent enough, but older power stations that use charging 'bricks' to convert the AC to DC will work fine if they draw a couple hundred watts. I have also had some trouble starting it when the temperature gets well below freezing (around 10F or below). It is about as noisy as a lawn mower when it is running under a load, so put it at the end of a longer extension cord. With the lower amperage it provides, a lighter extension cord will still work fine. I definitely recommend this, so long as you are using it for lighter tasks and non-sensitive electronics.

Good
Excellent PowerSmart 1200-watt generator. It's compact, lightweight, and very easy to transport, ideal for camping or as a backup in case of emergency. It starts without problems, consumes little fuel, and its noise level is quite low compared to other generators of its size. The build quality is good, and it provides stable power for running lights, fans, and small appliances. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Nice and small camping generator
We used this over a 4 day / 3-night tent camping trip. It was in the upper 30's low 40s in the morning and it was easy to start, few pulls and away you went. I found it easier to keep running on the first start by moving the choke lever back and forth. We ran a 50' length of LED lights and the generator did not even make a peep from the small load. We also used it to make coffee from a larger Kuerig machine. This was touch and go at first and when the generator was still cold the Keurig machine would temporarily shut off when it was trying to heat water. For this, I found I could move the choke cable back and forth to keep the generator from bogging down too much. Once it was fully warmed though we did not have the issue. I did try to plug in a power strip well charging a speaker and phone power pack but that did not work well. Everything acted as if it was being charged but after 30 minutes the phone power pack did not even go up 1%. I plugged it directly in and it charged much faster. This thing went through hardly any gas, so don't overpack that. I think at the end of the trip we went through maybe a gallon. We ran the lights most nights and the Kuerig machine in the morning amongst a couple of other things. So it was on and off a lot. It is a little on the noisy side. But so was my friend's generator in his RV and the neighbor's generators 100+ yards away...so yeah, generators can be loud. Pros: - Priced fairly well, you may find something just as nice for the same price or cheaper but good luck. - Easy on gas - Gets the job done for small-time tent camping - Small, this was easy to pack and move about the camp site Cons: - Noisy - Did not perform well with a power strip or charging - Only one outlet Overall, this was worth the money. We do plan on spending more and getting a Honda EU2200i or EU2200i Companion model. But keep in mind with that...sub $200 versus over $1200 and 1000 watts verses 2200 watts. If you do not have much planned for this generator it is a bargain that you will not regret.

Great for camping
We used this generator on a camping trip and it was very convenient to have. Its compact size made it easy to transport and store with our camping gear. It provided the portable power we needed during the trip, and the controls were simple to use. I especially liked not having to carry around a large, bulky generator. A practical option for camping and outdoor activities.

12 Days ZERO support or able to contact ANYONE from PowerSmart!
Ran generator for 20 min started on the 4th pull try. Pull to start cord does not engage until last 1/4 pull no matter quickly I pulled to start. Ran fine for 25 min. Plugged in a 400w heated brush. It revved up and down (normal for break in) but then died and would not restart again. No spark and not a breaker issue. If for one reason only! After ten days, 25 calls, 4 hrs on hold waiting to reach someone in parts, as none of the other menu options would connect to anyone. Two email support tickets and still nothing. I’m a very patient person and understand things happen! But I would not buy from a company that won’t support their product. I definitely would advise by another brand!!! I understand this is an inexpensive generator, but you’ll be dead in the water and likely very upset if you have to go through what I’ve been through. The time spent trying to resolve this was way more expensive than the purchase. Fortunately, Amazon after working with me, refunded me on an otherwise return only to PowerSmart process/procedure. Prospective buyers beware! Zero support or contact from PowerSmart. Do yourself a favor, call a companies support 1st and buy a different brand! It will save you in the long run. My issue showed in 20min. I’d be screwed if it died a month or so later! Just my 10 cents on this matter/product. Thank you Keith from Amazon support. 👍 Update: 4/17/24 still have not heard or received ANY RESPONSE on any of the calls or emailed tickets made to PowerSmart!

I can’t kill it
I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed with this 1000w generator. I mean, I bought it for mobile detailing with the intent of upgrading later on. However, I never expected it to be the Nokia phone of generators. I've been beating the crap out of it for two years now and it just keeps going and going and going. I've used it with tools that far exceed its wattage rating, incorrectly mixed fuel, rarely let it warm up before putting maximum load on it, and I haven't serviced the air filter or spark plug once. And yet, it still runs like a top. Even in sub-freezing temperatures, it starts with only a few pulls. It frightens me. I’ve been intentionally trying to kill it, but every night it whispers threats to me in my dreams. It knows when I’m trying to overload it and instead psychologically terrorizes me to the point of sobbing and runs off my tears only to output the energy of the Sun and reliability of a Honda. I'm convinced this thing is indestructible. I'm thinking of putting wheels on it and entering it in a demolition derby just to win the coveted first place trophy desired by rednecks across the globe. Overall, I highly recommend this generator to anyone in need of a reliable and durable power source. Just don't expect to have the luxury of it having a lifetime shorter than yours. It's like the cockroach of generators. On a serious note, it has only had two problems: 1. The power supply wire came loose from vibration and wouldn’t supply power. It was a quick fix (5 minutes). 2. It leaked fuel between the tank and feed line. Again, it was just from all of the hours of harsh vibration. Just needed to take off the front panel and secure the line. This whole generator is very easy to work on in case anything goes wrong and uses universal parts. I highly recommend it.

Nice Generaor

Finally had some warm weather time to take the PowerSmart 1200 for a test drive. Added fuel 50 to 1 mix started right up. First run 10 minutes NO LOAD then added a 50 watt load voltage and hertz looking good. Run time app 25 minutes added another 80 watts run time with the additional load 15 minutes. The engine is tight which is what one would see in a new motor. Removed load run time 10 minutes for cool down. Turned off fuel allowed engine to run dry. Did another run today for 30 minutes added a little more load. Will update in a few weeks after engines has more hours. Up date March 03 2026 allowed generator to run for 5 minutes before doing a load test, load of 500 watt from a heater run time 30 minutes voltage and Hz looking great. Have about 12 hours run time, ready for our summer storm season. Thanks David

it's not super quiet as described
i do like the size, and it weighs in at almost 40 pounds too, that is a plus in my book. after going over the instructions with a fine tooth comb, and complete visual inspection. i find no way to add oil to the crankcase. it runs like a charm except for the fear that it is knocking like it is about to throw a rod after about 70 seconds of run time. if you are wanting something the neighbors 4 doors away can hear, this is perfect. but if you are trying to not let it be known you are running a generator this isn't a good fit. Upon further inspection by opening up the air filter panel to do as the instructions recommend and put oil on the filter...there was no filter there. it also only runs about 3 hours before running out of gas. and all i have hooked up is my laptop charger. or the small charger for my e-bike. so let's just say it's cute but not effective
