  • 5.0 out of 5 stars DPad was exactly what I was looking for
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Color: Red/Black Fightpad
Want to venture more into fighting games and I wanted to find the right pad for it. My dualshock 4 felt a little stiff and my up direction felt inconsistent. Wanted to try a more loose Dpad and I feel much more accurate with this one (especially when it comes to 360 inputs). The catch is that on PC, the ABXY buttons are reversed. I have ReWASD but unfortunately the program doesn't support this controller yet for remapping. I haven't tried steam input as of yet. Could be a negative for you if you're already used to light and medium placements, but I got it mostly for SF6s release so I don't mind the buttons being reversed as I wont have the muscle memory for them. Comes with White and Grey faceplates which is great because all my PC stuff is black and white. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Specialized Controller - With Some Caveats
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Color: Red/Black Fightpad
I have to say, I'm rather impressed with the build quality of this fight pad. It's made with high quality materials, including the cable which is braided, and all of the inputs feel just right. Very responsive, too. Being able to switch the dpad into an emulation of the left analog stick is definitely very handy. For Zelda fans, it can be frustrating that Link's Awakening doesn't support the dpad natively...this fixes that. It also allows you to use a dpad for Smash Bros, which I found to be an interesting prospect. However, I'm unsure why you would want to switch it to the right stick...I'm sure it has its uses, but I haven't encountered those yet! For Smash, the dpad essentially acts as the analog stick at full tilt. That means your inputs register as smash inputs, meaning you'll always be running everywhere. It makes the dash dancing in the game more fluid than before, but there's no easy way to simply walk. You can crouch down and then roll the dpad to the side to initiate a walk, but that's an unneeded delay that can hamper your response time. An easy fix for this would have been to included some sort of analog modifier button that registers a light tilt on the stick when held down, similar to what some of the box controllers use. Although this is primarily being advertised for use in Smash, it's clear to me it's true purpose is for traditional fighters. My main game is Ultimate however, so I tried doing basic motions with Ryu in that game. Simply put, throwing fire balls and dragon punches felt way more naturally than attempting to do the same with an analog stick. If the modifier button was implemented, I could almost recommended this as a viable alternative controller for Smash. Unfortunately, there's still one more sticking point.... The features listed on this page and in the manual note that you can toggle the right bumper to act as the C-stick for use in Smash. While this toggle does indeed exist, it won't register any input in Smash. I took to the Switch's built in input tester to see what the deal was. Turns out, it registers as a click of the right stick, essentially turning it into a dedicated R3 button. I can see where this may be useful in some other games, but it simply does not function as advertised for Smash Bros. For that reason, I'm docking it a star for a 4 star rating. It's a fantastic controller, but it's a hard sell if you don't play many fighting games. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Controller with Questionable Quality
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Color: Red/Black Fightpad
I bought this controller in April 2020 to use for fighting games exclusively. I used it with Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, King of Fighters titles and honestly, it handles beautifully in my hands. I have large hands and the shape and fit of the D pad made it very easy to do precise movements in every game I played, especially fast paced anime fighters like Guilty Gear. However, I'm beginning to doubt the quality the description claims to tout. For the first issue, the USB cable broke at the locking mechanism that connects to the controller, through no misuse on my end. This must have been 6 months after purchase. It was still under warranty, so PowerA graciously sent me a replacement after I sent proof. But then yesterday, after just under 2 years of ownership, the D-Pad broke off as seen in the pictures attached. I was just playing normally, and it just fell off. Disappointing, to say the least. I am a heavy user, so perhaps I am an extreme case but when the company claims a quality build for their product, I expect that. Fortunately, I still have the spare controller they sent from my first replacement so no harm, no foul but I will be a little more aware of these issues that have reared their ugly heads. I'll hope that the first controller I bought was just an outlier, and if the second one performs up to snuff, I will change my review accordingly. Until then 3/5 stars: Very good controller when it works but the build may not hold up under heavy use. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic joystick for classic arcade games!
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Color: Red/Black Arcade Stick
I have owned (and still own) many old "arcade style" joysticks for many different old video game consoles, going all the way back to the old NES and PS2 ones. Some of these have been okay for playing arcade games, some decent. Then there's PowerA Fusion, which is amazing. I was very surprised by how well it controlled, even in 4-way controlled games like Donkey Kong on the Switch. I highly recommend this for playing classic arcade games! Update: I finally got a chance to try this on the Xbox (Series X). The product listing shows "Works with Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One". This does not appear to work on the Xbox, however. It doesn't pair, nor does it work wired (with the power off as the instructions state for wired mode). The issue is that there's no Home button to initiate turning on the joystick to enable the Xbox to see it, nor does pressing any button (-, +, Home, etc.) perform this function. Do not buy this then thinking you can use it on an Xbox, as you probably can't. It's still very good for the Switch though! ... show more
