This is just an incredible book. Like you may be, I am really into health and wellness, but wasn't sure about PEMF which I heard about on a couple podcasts. I already used photobiomodulation (red light therapy) via cold lasers and full body light panels, so I was familar with the positive effects of using different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum to increase celluar respiration and charge up the mitchondria so they can do their jobs better. PEMF can be kind of confusing because, well, what is it? Is it electricty? Is EMF? Is it bad EMF? Is it magnetism? How does it work exactly? What about the different frequencies and their various effects? Why does it heal so many different conditions? How can this be possible? One of the challenges to learning more about PEMF's is that most of the research and writing isn't in English - it's in Russian or Czech. So when you go online to learn more, you're getting information from manufacturers who understandably have a bias, or just random folks who may or may not be well informed. With this book, you're getting someone with a trained medical background who's devoted his practice to advancing the use of PEMF in the West. Dr Pawluks book takes a very complex subject and distills down decades of clinical research into a very easy to understand book for a "normal" person. I read it twice, the first time straight through and the second time using it like a manual and currently am re-reading various sections to get an even better handle on some conditions I'm treating. His writing style is really approachable and you have "aha" moments while going through it. Or at least I did, and I'm not a scientific person. I think this book will be THE resource for many years to come in the English language for PEMF's. The index and glossary are super well organized and incredibly helpful when looking up various conditions and terms. How did it change my life? Well, I originally invested in a FlexPulse PEMF device and the book to recover from an orthopedic surgery in my wrist. One of the most studed uses of PEMF is in bone regrowth. I ordered it a couple months early to familiarize myself with the unit pre-surgery. It turns out I started using it for everything because it works SO well at a celluar level: -can't sleep? no problem, use Delta, 3Hz -need pain management and broken toe recovery? use Alpha, 10Hz -want to recover from crossing three time zones?, Alpha, 10Hz -want to wind down at night before bed? great, use Theta, 7.8Hz -faster recovery from workouts? 10Hz alternating with 100Hz All of these examples are from an intense athletic trip I did to Hawaii - after that trip, I swore never to travel without it and subsequently brought the unit to Costa Rica and used it to treat my girlfriend's anxiety, naturally, in as little as ten minutes among other things. Amazing. My friend with Chrones tried the FlexPulse (as well read through some of Power Tools For Health) and ended up ordering one because he had such great results in as little as two hours from my unit. As far as the recovery goes for me from the orthopedic surgery, so far I'm breaking all records. The scar looks as good within two weeks as my previous (same surgery) scar looked at six weeks before. Amazing. I'm been sleeping while bathing the surgical area in PEMF's every night. Anyhow, if I hadn't taken the time to read this book, I wouldn't have been open to trying out PEMF because I'm already doing a full supplementation program along with red light therapy and a ton of other biohacking/health/wellness things. I am sure glad I did and Dr Pawluk should be commended for going through the tremendous effort it takes to publish a book like this. After a total of 31 years in general pediatric practice, and another 11 years serving on the teaching faculty of a major university pediatric teaching program, I discovered and shortly thereafter plunged into the world of Functional Medicine, becoming board certified in Integrative Pediatrics (B.C.I.P.) under the auspices of the American Association of Integrative Medicine (AAIM) in May, 2016. In the process of exploring and utilizing a growing array of modalities foreign to my 42 year career, I ran across the unfamiliar but surprisingly old and proven modality of pulsed electromagnetic fields, or PEMF. After reading about an astonishing variety of apparent beneficial effects of PEMF for assisting the healing process in a wide array of clinical conditions our Integrative Medicine Practice deals with, including chronic Lyme disease, I became familiar with the work and writings of Dr. William Pawluk. As my familiarity about the potential for PEMF to assist in diverse clinical situations, as well as the substantial preventive aspect of PEMF grew, I decided to purchase a unit for my personal family use. The decision of selecting a particular PEMF unit became bewildering, with a surprisingly large number of divergent options – until I found Dr. Pawluk’s extraordinary book dedicated to explaining this amazing modality and providing in-depth advice about basic concepts of how PEMF works, the extraordinary wide variety of clinical conditions in which it may be helpful, and objective, practical advice about choosing a unit for purchase. Dr. Pawluk’s knowledge and first-hand experience with a wide array of PEMF units, as well as his availability for a personal telephone consultation appointment proved invaluable. After making a tentative decision to purchase a particular unit that had very impressive materials readily available on the internet, I decided to consult Dr. Pawluk’s office before making a final decision – and quickly understood why the particular unit I was close to committing to purchase would have been a clearly inferior choice for about the same cost as the one I decided to buy. As someone who has spent nearly $30,000 on four different PEMF units over the last five years, I have found there to be a lack of independent information on the subject. There is a wide range of information available from the equipment manufacturers, ranging from mediocre to poor. I read this 400+ page book in less than a day and think it will be quoted in the decades to come. I think it will be a “springboard” for further research on the subject. Two points were evident throughout the book - Dr. Pawluk is a passionate expert on the subject and the writing is outstanding. The writing is so clear that the book is useful for a doctor or a lay person. I usually do not write book reviews but I adjusted one of my PEMF sleeping devices last night based on the book’s recommendation and had my best night’s sleep in over a year. I feel so refreshed that I felt I owed the book a review. I plan to read this book several times over the next month to gain a deeper understanding. This is THE book to have on PEMF and there is not another book even remotely near its class. Based on my experience I found the recommendations on high and low intensity PEMF units spot-on. The book discussed how PEMF is good for blood health. I wish it would have covered how long the effect lasts from a high or low intensity machine treatement - two hours or two weeks? Maybe there is not an answer. I started using PEMF equipment at a doctor’s office and learned there is no substitute for having your own equipment at home. Thank you Dr. Pawluk for taking the time to author such an excellent book. And Caitlyn, the writing is outstanding for such a complex topic.

This book has good info for someone who wants to know about PEMFs, but is in no way a how-to book. The author's website is a great place for info on PEMFs and Electromagnetics, so I was hoping this book would go a lot further and act as a handbook or guide to using PEMFs. I was hoping it had actual frequencies listed with how often one should treat a certain issue and at what intensity and for how long, etc. The book includes a lot of case studies, but it's just not what I needed. I have a newer technology Element PEMF coil made by the same man who first developed the Ampcoil. I am using an independent Frex16 software, and needed guidance on times and durations on program sets. I guess I will have to look for a rife handbook of some kind for what I need.

Being the product manager of the Parmeds and Curatron PEMF systems, I am really impressed with this excellent book. It is clearly the only book which addresses PEMF therapy in many different ways. The reader neither has to be a medical professional nor a scientist because this book explains in a very clear and comprehensive way the background of PEMF therapy and there is more than enough information both for patients and doctors alike. Power Tools for Health elaborates on lots of technical issues for scientific interested people and has in addition a wealth of information for practical medical applications. Reading of the complete book is not required to understand how and when to use a PEMF device and this book clearly shows how to select the best device for the required applications, both for individuals and for professional therapists. It is obvious that Dr. Pawluk has invested a huge amount of time and effort to create a very readable book elaborating on the many advantages for practical application of PEMF for health and wellness. I loved this book!! It starts off at a very basic level of physics so that the gradient for anyone's understanding is addressed. I have read the first two chapters only having to look up just a few words. His examples were very clear and easy to understand. I have owned a company that sells PEMF Devices for two years. For two years, I have been looking for just this book to help me understand the great benefits of PEMF therapy. I am not finished with the book yet only I am taking time to make sure this review is written so more people will avail themselves of this excellent account of the amazing field of healing and health. I was disappointed that this book is nothing but a reiteration of the information on Dr. Pawluk's website. I felt like I had already read the book as soon as I looked at the table of contents. I am also not in favour of the biased account of PEMF Systems. Dr. Pawluk leaves many systems out of his discussion because he doesn't sell them on his website. OMI is one of these. I have been using an OMI PEMF mat for 11 months and couldn't be happier with it! It was affordable (no MLM marketing), easy to use, easy to store, and it works! Sleeping much better than a baby these days!

Having used PEMF both personally and clinically for five years it truly is a remarkable therapy. Unfortunately there aren’t many books available on PEMF and the few that are available tend to be quite biased toward one system or another. For example one book is very biased toward very low gauss systems because that is the system that author sells, ignoring much of the research to the contrary. The vast range of positive biologic effects of PEMF is quite astounding and it really should be a technology that is found in every hospital, clinic, practitioner’s office and home. If PEMF were more widely available in North America it would have the potential to turn the current opioid crisis around. I liked the fact that this book so clearly spells out the many merits of PEMF, supported by numerous research studies, for an array of conditions. From the research presented it is clear that no one system is ideal for every condition and situation and the author highlights a number of different systems catering to all manner of situations. This terrific book expanded my present knowledge and understanding of PEMF and I highly recommend to anyone currently using PEMF or who is considering PEMF.
