  • Versatile Use and Great While Camping
Size: 5 FT
This was our first lumenoodle product and I'll definitely buy more. We used it all over - placed on a table for extra light, around the neck when walking, hanging from the tent ceiling. Ties and magnets make it very versatile and it's so bright but not in an obnoxious way.

  • Much better than Cats
Size: 5 FT
Love this light. It’s great for camping. Throw it on the table for dinner. Perfect. Hang it up, whatever you need it to do. The magnets are strong enough and the straps are excellent for keeping it in place. The ONE thing this doesn’t have that the next iteration does have that I love more is the ability to dim. Changing colors is cool too. So if you’re thinking of getting this one, get the next level on. You will love it more. ... show more

  • I was at first slightly dismissive but after having an opportunity to use it I am now a believer!
Size: 5 FT
I received this Luminoodle and battery with a monthly box subscription and while I was at first slightly dismissive but after having an opportunity to use it I am now a believer! First on the Luminoodle light: My initial thoughts were that the strip fell flimsy or that the rubber tube it was enclosed in was loose feeling and sloppy rather than a single molded or heat-shrinked piece, and I still have a bit of concern that this might cause one or more of the LEDs to loose their connection and not light up. However after taking it on a backpacking trip, I changed my mind completely. Two thumbs up! I arrived at my backcountry campsite after dark in the woods. I strung the luminoodle just above head level over the area I chose to setup my tent. A pleasant not too bright light allowed me to setup my tent, and see all the accessories needed without a headlamp. The included noodle ties allowed me to quickly attach the light to a thin branch and the low weight of the unit extended out toward the end of the branch meant that the branch would barely sag, even with the battery pack back towards the trunk. Consider also that I typically rig a clothesline with paracord over top or near my tent. This is so in the morning I can dry dew or rain off my tent fly while packing other items up. In this case one could just hang the luminoodle from the paracord clothes line for the same even lighting effect as from the tree branch when setting up a tent after dark or for general illumination over a picnic table etc. Inside the tent, rather than a bright single-source light like a flashlight awkwardly placed in a pocket facing up to light the interior, or endlessly wearing a headlamp, with the noodle you can string it up in or around the gear loft. Now you have bright even overhead lighting perfect for all your in-tent tasks and you never have to worry about bumping it, setting it back up, or shining a headlamp in your camping partner's eyes while talking to each other. It was also nice for late night trip to the spring to fill up water bottles. I propped it in a branch and the whole area was lit nicely. It's waterproof so if it fell no worries there, except for maybe the battery. A small nite-ize biner kept my battery attached to a branch. The bi-drectional USB plug meant no worries also on how to plug it in, remember you plug it in in the dark, when things like that matter. Surprisingly the noodle was easy to manipulate such that the LEDs faced down when needed and hung by noodle ties. I didnt use the magnet, fwiw. What would I add? A dimmer inline with the string, simple push and hold to dim with a slight blink at each extreme just like the Black Diamond headlamps, something made small with attention paid not to add bulk. It would be nice to not completely loose your night vision with a full brightness light when appropriate with the addition of a dimming feature. Also a press and hold setting for SOS might be useful as this would get noticed if you strung this up in a tree on a canyon edge or on top of your tent etc, if you really needed to signal for help. The Lith4400 Battery: The 2A stated output is nice, if you needed to it would charge your phone relatively quickly. But my feelings on the battery are not as positive as the light. My main beef is the capacity and cost vs features. Similar sized units by Anker are generally $10 less with 6700mah and use two high quality 18650 internal lithium ion cells. I have that model and use it daily and it gets all of it's spec'd mah rating. What I would add? It seems Power Practical could have achieved the same capacity and added an LED light of some manner for the price tag they are asking. Just put the LED lamp on the bottom of the battery like a flashlight so you can hang it over something (like a picnic table) as the luminoodle is also running plugged into the top. Also I think for the money, more intuitive battery level indicator and switch, seems there are some things still on the table to implement with the battery to make it worth carrying in a pack. While off switch on the lith4400 is nicer than simply unplugging the lights for the weight I choose to have the larger capacity units by other manufacturers if I was on a 3-4day trek. I suggest implement the downward LED lamp on the battery, make it 6700mah, place a nice battery meter on the side and incorporate the dimmer/sos feature into it and I would pay 29.99, no problem, perhaps more. Keep the light cheap, add features to the companion battery and you have a nice combination. So my final thoughts are, get the noodle, you will love it. Two thumbs up! It will prove it's usefulness and it is lightweight and small. There is a good chance are you have another 5v USB device like your phone or GPS along with you and you will be bringing a battery for them. At this point I would recommend against the Lith4400 and pickup and equally rugged and reliable Anker unit for 30% less and nearly the same weight with far more capacity (6700) for $10 less. They also have a 10,000mah, weighs 6oz for $5 less. ... show more

  • Cool light, probably not best suited for "emergencies" though.
Size: 5 FT
I'm a "emergency" lighting fanatic. I own 8 d.light solar lanterns, 4 Luci (inflatable) solar lanterns, 4 goal zero DC powered lights, and several USB powered LED bulbs. I figured I'd add this to the collection. First of all. It is a good product. It is well made, and doesn't feel like it came straight off the ship from china. The LED light strip "housing" is nearly opaque to the casual observer. That is nice because it hides the "insides" better than any other LED light strip I've seen. When turned on, each light is clearly distinguishable, like any other light strip. In most situations where these types of lights are used, that "point of light" is the only downfall, because they always look much better when you can mount them in such a way that the light is even diffused (under furniture, behind crown molding, anywhere where you can't see the lights directly). Obviously, if you're intention is on using this for "emergencies," you're probably not concerned with diffusing the light to make it look pretty. Here's where it gets hairy, in my opinion. If you ARE intending on using this for emergencies, fine, it'll do that, but every option I mentioned above is probably a better choice. Why? If this is unwrapped, you probably plan on "sticking" it to something with the magnets. Fine. The magnets are pretty weak, you'll need the ties, especially if you're going to be mounting the battery pack next to the lights, due to lack of extension cord (or whatever reason). All of the other options have hooks. Hang it and done. You do run into the same problem with the battery pack with the other USB powered lights though. If it's unwrapped and you don't plan on hanging it... well.. why do you want to drag a 5 foot string around where you go? The other, more compact options, are certainly better there. If you plan on putting it in the lantern bag. OK. The only problem there, is that without significant effort, you're going to lose light output because of the way you wrap it up and put it in the bag, and (most likely) put the battery pack in as well. So, yes, you'll still be able to light up a tent just fine, it just seems silly to have a 180 lumen light that only produces 100 lumens in some situations. The only plus for this guy in terms of "emergencies" is that it takes 2.5 watts. Half of my other USB powered bulbs. I can get around 10 hours on one of those from a 10000mah battery brick. So I'd assume this would go 18 ish. Anything over 8 is probably fine considering you have a 15 (ish) watt solar charger BESTEK 14W Dual-Port Solar Charger with Smart IC Technology and Dual USB Charging Ports for iPhone 6s / 6 / Plus, iPad Air / mini, Galaxy S6 and More (Foldable, Portable) d.light and luci are "all-in-one" packages, making them much more readily available in a true emergency. The other USB powered bulbs have wired switches, are just as bright (see picture), and are more compact. But like I said. This is a good product. It just seems better suited for ambience lighting, or perhaps camping. I will probably keep this on my boat for fun lighting at night. ... show more
