After seeing a number of positive YouTube reviews for the PTD-1 controller, and my experience flying a drone with a phone controller, I decided to purchase the PTD-1 controller. I was happy with the stock controller that came with the Atom-2, but wanted a intrusion free experience while flying, as I do take it very seriously, so seriously that I acquired my Part-107 certification before even buying the Atom-2. I had already flown my Atom-2 using the included controller, so I needed to pair the Drone to the controller. As expected, the controller and the Eve app had available firmware & App updates that needed to be installed at first power up. I had to do the same with my iPhone and the standard controller as well as the drone. It seemed that I had to update the PTD-1 twice, and the Drone once to get everything sorted out. I attributed it to moving from my iPhone / iOS to Android. The PTD-1 controller, similar to the standard controller, is substantive and not at all toy like. The screen is reported to be 700 nits brightness and is clear in most outdoor lighting conditions. It is glossy, so at specific angles there is glare. I purchased a matte screen protector which I will apply soon to determine effectiveness. The PTD-1 controller operates exactly as the standard one, minus the need for the smartphone. I weighed purchasing a used / refreshed / refurbished smartphone as I did not have a suitable one that could run the Eve app (downside of trading in phones). Plus, I now have a backup controller should the need arise. The PTD-1 comes with 32GB internal storage, and an available microSD card slot for expansion. I have elected to install a 128GB card. You can also plug the PTD-1 into a computer via the USB-C connection to transfer recordings. The Atom-2 / PTD-1 can transfer files from the Drone to the controller if desired. You can also perform screen recordings of your flights. If you check out my review of the Atom-2, you will see I did my homework and analysis that resulted in my selecting the Potensic ecosystem over other brands. The PTD-1 controller is a continuation of entry level, non-toy drones that can also be utilized in a professional setting as well as providing value and a positive experience to flyers. IF I decided to add another drone to the fleet, I would, without reservation, purchase the FlyMore combo that included the PTD-1. I am updating after mutable written requests from Potensic. I did receive a replacement which was overnighted to me and received on a Sunday. I still had to process several updates in Firmware despite being told it would arrive fully updated. The first flight went fine. The second flight after installing a different battery, the remote seemed to go dark and not want to power off. Sine I already knew how to power it off, I did the motion on the blank screen, similar to powering off my iPad, and it powered off. When I turned it back on, it updated the firmware again, and so far as worked well for the 3 flights I have since completed. I still wish the CS chat was less accusatory towards me, and they only sent the new controller when I said I was just going to return to Amazon. From other reviews, I am hoping I just experienced a bad CS agent. I will update again if there are any more negative issues that pop up. Received it quickly but will not fully process a firmware update and will stay on until the battery drains. Customer service had me charge it back up to take a video. I did and now it is beeping for 1 to 2 minutes every 20 minutes. I really like the idea of not using my phone while flying the drone. Support in app says they are open 7 days a week but I am getting an auto reply that they are on vacation for the weekend and I will not get a response until Monday. I really like the drone though. I will update this if I get a response from customer service ... show more
