  • Good size polystyrene beads in a badly packed box lacking health-risk warnings
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
We needed to add beads to a large Fatboy bean-bag/chair. Since we did not want any more chemicals beyond those already needed for manufacturing --and flammability retardance per CAL 117 laws-- I choose this brand since the beads are claimed to be from virgin material (non-virgin materials can have contamination from the large amounts of dirt and residues left on the recycled products), and the price was quite competitive. MATERIAL These are roughly rounded, smooth and white, expanded polystyrene [EPS] beads 8 mm in diameter [ca 0.3"]. The distributor Posh Beanbags (an abandoned trademark brand name of GT Ventures LLC in Nevada) claims they are made in the U.S. EPS is called "styrofoam" in the U.S. and Canada. SAFETY RISK EVALUATION Unlike some other EPS bead fillers, this EPS product does not provide a Proposition 65 Warning, which lists polystyrene as a carcinogenic. This is due not to an actual No Significant Risk Level compliance for the product, but to an egregious failure to provide such warning here. I took away one star because of that. EPS is composed of several ingredients. In addition to the polystyrene foam, it contains pentanes and styrene. The pentanes are highly volatile blowing agents that are released as flammable gases. Industry descriptions typically claim 85% of them is emitted within the first two days of manufacture and the remainder emitted before shipping. The monomer styrene (in the form of residual vinylbenzene) is a volatile used as a precursor to polystyrene, and is reported to represent less than 2‰ (per mille and not percent) of the finished EPS product. This monomer is a cause of concern -- the DHHS National Toxicology Program concluded (14th Report, 2016) that styrene is "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen," and a working group of the International Agency for Research on Cancer later upgraded its warning "from possibly carcinogenic" to "probably carcinogenic." Aware of such issues, upon delivery I opened as much as possible the beads-filled plastic bag inside the box, closed the box flaps again, and put the box outdoors on a spot with direct sunlight for two hot (82+ °F) days to help release the toxic volatile chemicals it might have contained. I cannot exclude some contaminants might have remained, but if so it is unlikely they would be volatile. Further, given that: [ i ] the CDC reports styrene, if not inhaled, may only enter the body when ingested or touched as a liquid; [ ii ] EPS workers need to be exposed to ca. 1000 times the levels typically found in the environment before minor adverse effects may occur; and [ iii ] the above 2‰ amount limit is less than the maximum amount of styrene allowed in products used for food contact, I concluded it is reasonable to expect EPS *pre-ventilated* in this manner is unlikely to pose a carcinogenic risk under usual and normal conditions inside an indoors bean bag, especially a thick one like ours, not exposed to outdoors heat or rain. When having children at home it is needed to childproof the bag's zipper, such as cutting of the handle of the zipper so a child cannot open it. PACKING The beads arrived in a large "packing" plastic bag inside a flimsy cardboard shipping box. The box could have not been sealed with tape in a worse manner, as a large fold of the plastic bag had been left out the box flaps and taped to them. Considerable time and patience were required to remove the tape from the bag without ripping it and making a hole from which EPS could escape. I took away another star because of that. To facilitate the transfer of the beads into the bean bag I taped a cardboard tube of about 5" in diameter to the opening of the plastic bag containing the beads (see figure). ... show more

  • This brand compared to Big Joe - We liked Big Joe better.
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
I made two large beanbag chairs. Each required 3 bags of styro beads to fill. I bought 3 bags of this brand and 3 bags of Big Joe. These are about twice to three times the diameter of the Big Joe beads. Not as comfortable. You can feel and see the difference, even in a heavy canvas cover. Weight is the same, volume was the same. This brand comes in a VERY oversized bag, Big Joe came in a smaller bag and therefore a smaller box. Less waste. We watched a Big Joe video before filling either chair and used the same technique - these beads did not flow very well because of their size. The Big Joe just poured into the funnel and into the chair. I will not buy this brand again - I love how the Big Joe-filled chair feels. This brand makes a lumpy chair. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • Misleading, False Advertising, Does Not look anything like in the picture
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
What a waste of my time. Order the product on October 2, 2019. Just received it, opened it and surprise. The picture looks nice and FULL. Once you received it DOESN'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE PICTURE AT ALL. The bag is half filled with a tie wrap. I returned this crap for a full refund. Very disappointed. ... show more

  • Be prepared for a mess.
Size: 20lbs Style: Shredded Memory Foam Fill
‘Disastah’ trying to manage this situation!!! Packaging NEEDS to be better. The outer bag is high quality but the inner bag is POS & lead to this aggravating, time-consuming cluster f.

  • Beanbag Refill
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
My daughter's beanbag chair had gone flat so I figured I'd try and refill it. I read the other reviews and expected to have foam pellets everywhere. It wasn't quite that bad, but what my husband and I did was to stuff the plastic bag, pellets and all, into the chair and then pull it out very carefully. A handful of foam is going to escape and we had to rip the bag into pieces to remove it entirely but it only took a couple of minutes and it was done. The chair is extra poufy and looks great. P.S. I did not remove any of the original filling. ... show more

  • You’re not getting what you paid for
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
Yikes! I just spent over $44- on 2 bags of this stuff. Not only is my beanbag not full enough, these balls can be squished with your fingers to a pancake. You definitely need two people to refill any bag (I’m sure) but the real problem is that this is not the old-fashioned beams that are more compact and smaller. I feel like I could have gotten those pink packing peanuts from a shipping store and probably get a better result as those are more solid than than these guys. I’m seriously afraid to sit on my beanbag because it will flatten in no time. I’d do more research and try to find a more solid ‘bean’ than these air-compressed ‘shipping pellets’ ... show more

  • Exactly as described - use a funnel!
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
Refill that beanbag chair in the bathtub. Make some sort of funnel (I used an empty paper towel roll) and tape the bag around it. If you try to just pour it in there, you'll be facing a mountain of 1/2-inch shiny, slippery pearls that have static energy that makes them cling to things! We were re-filling an already existing beanbag chair. It may take some work figuring out how much filling you need; one was perfect for our large but not overly-large chair, but it was already about 1/2 full (of somewhat squished pearls). In other words, I'd do the leg work of finding out about your chair's volume before deciding how many boxes to buy. ... show more

  • Bad.....
Size: 100 L Style: Bean Bag - Polystyrene Beans Fill
Horrible quality. They are pretty big and you can see air bubbles in them. After I filled my bean bag for my daughter, the beads were good for three weeks. The bean bag seems to be half size flat now.
