  • Works Surprisingly Well!
Color: White
I was pleasantly surprised at how well this works. I have been on a retro console kick lately after busting out ALL of my old gaming consoles, including the Nintendo Wii. A lot of the consoles that came out around this period didn't usually have an HDMI connection because HDTV was just beginning to get affordable & that includes the Wii. When I first hooked up my Nintendo Wii to my LG 4K TV I was pretty disappointed at how bad the quality was. So, I started to search & see if there were any options available to get the fuzzy picture from the Wii console to a better quality. That's when I found a bunch of people saying that this PORTHOLIC Wii Converter works well. It was even recommended by a few gaming websites. I figured that I would give it a try considering the price wasn't that bad. Not only is the PORTHOLIC Wii converter affordable, but it actually works! Needless to say, I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to install & how it converted the picture into 1080p. I def recommend this. ... show more

  • Plug & Play. Works as expected.
Color: White
My new 4K led television does not have the old-school RCA style connectors for our ancient Wii console. (My little kids still play with the Wii it all the time.) This device provided a quick and easy upgrade to HDMI for the Wii and it connect to my new TV without a hitch. As for picture quality--I'm going to guess a lot of that will depend on how well your TV upscales the native Wii resolution (480, 720p). ... show more

  • Straightforward - No Issues
Color: White
Works great and so far doesn't have any issues. The quality is perfectly well and if there was a drop in graphics, it was too minimal for me to notice. Easy to plug in between the cords and doesn't require any additional tools or setup.

  • Works in 480p, blinks in 480i
Color: White
For the most part this works well. It doesn’t magically make the picture better, but it does make connection to newer TVs easy. Most games play well with the Wii configured to 480p resolution. However, when the resolution is set to 480i the screen constantly blanks out every few seconds for a few seconds. I have one game that seems to force the resolution down to 480i even though the console is configured for 480p. Because of this, that game is unplayable on our newer TV. Not a big loss other than for some reason my son insists on trying to play that terrible game even with the blinking. I bought this 6 years ago and it still works… except in 480i resolution. ... show more

  • 480i vs 480p Wii setting issues
Color: White
This product was seemingly working fine with the Wii set to output at 480p. After about 20 minutes of gameplay, the screen started flickering and randomly went blank. The adapter felt warm to the touch so I wondered if it was overheating. I purchased a different brand adapter and it did the same thing as this one. I went into the Wii settings and changed the output on the Wii to 480i and suddenly the flickering stopped regardless of which adapter was plugged in. If the adapters are designed to work this way, it should be made clearer how to change your settings on the Wii to make the adapter work. Update 1: It seems the setting on the Wii wasn’t the issue, even while set to 480i the flickering/black screen issue returned after about 20 minutes of play. Again the adapter would feel warm to the touch. At this point I’m not sure what the problem is. I have obtained another Wii from a family member and will be hooking it up soon. If the issue presents itself again on this unit, I can only conclude the issue is something with the adapters. I will update after I’ve gotten a chance to test things out. Update 2: The second Wii unit works perfectly with the adapter and the original one now shows no picture at all with the adapter. However, I’m still not entirely sure what the problem is. As an experiment, I hooked the original Wii up to an older TV I have using the original Nintendo component cables and the older Wii worked perfectly on that TV using that setup. Therefore, I can’t rule out the adapter being the issue because the original Wii works great without it. It should be noted that the original Wii is exactly that, an early model Wii unit RVL-001 while the second unit I tried is a newer revision Wii RVL-101. Is that making a difference? I have no idea. I have ordered a component to HDMI adapter and I am going to try connecting the original Wii to the new TV using the original component cables and that adapter. If that works, well I don’t know what that means. The whole thing is a head scratcher honestly. Update 3: The original Wii unit turned out to be the problem all along. As a result I have revised my rating to five stars to reflect that the adapter works perfectly with the second Wii unit. ... show more

  • Works well but issues with soundbar
Color: White
It works well but there are moments that the device doesn’t connect well with my SONY Soundbar. The sound stops playing on the soundbar so I have to manually reset the audio input on the tv to get the sound back on the soundbar.

  • Worked Great - Failed 6 Mos Later
Color: White
This product worked great. Purchased it in March, and it did very well for quite some time. But it ultimately failed and refused to output video about a week or so ago. I know that his very adapter is the cause of my issue because I purchased a replacement Wii to HDMI adapter (not the PORTHOLIC one), which my Wii is now able to output video through. When citing product failures, I would typically rate the product at fault a bit lower than three stars, but because of the price and other great experiences I've seen people have with this product, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt (the product I received may have been an oddball, too). ... show more
