    • Great alternative to expensive professional tools

Bought over a year ago. I am not a professional, but am a fairly heavy intermediate user. Framed, completely wired, plumbed and finished a 2400 sq ft basement (5 rooms and full bath) using only these tools (except for nail gun and hammer drill for tap cons into concrete). Over 6 months I put them a lot of near abuse at times. Being a basement, in addition to all of the walls and doors etc, I had to frame around vents and also totally reconfigured a ceiling to cover wires and pipes in a couple of rooms. Since then, have continued with many other home improvement projects. so the whole set has really been put to the test. The drill and impact driver in particular have gotten a ton of use and often pushed really hard. They're still going strong and have that well worn look of many successful projects. FYI, I bought 2 extra 4 amp batteries and highly recommend them. Working on a big project, and using 4-5 tools interchangeably, it's great to just grab-n-go. I know battery manufacturers say it doesn't matter, but I religiously run each battery until it dies and then put it on the charger. I know the manufacturers say you can just pop them in the charger whenever you want. But I have found that they last longer when you drain them. This goes over many years of experience with these kind of batteries. After a year, all of the batteries are still running like new, holding charges for a long time. In the end, I'm sure Milwaukee or DeWalt tools are certainly better if you are a professional Carpenter beating them up 8 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. But for the heavy using amateur, or intermediate power user they are more than enough at less than half the price. I am not a carpenter for a living but I do a lot with them and could not be happier. Porter cable battery tools are so underrated. They are durable and dependable. I’ve had a drill in my truck tool box for months without use and when needed it still has strong power. I’ve had Ryobi crap in the past and the batteries fail constantly. These batteries definitely last. These will take abuse and last a very long time. And they work with precision as most of the tools have speed settings for fine detail work. ... show more

This is a good kit. However the sander failed after 1-1/2 years. I used it lightly for a year, for the past 6 months I've used it about every third day and today it stopped working. All the other tools work great so far! Update: I contacted Porter Cable. And they promptly sent a new sander to replace the broken one! This is a great set for the money. The carry bag it comes in isn’t that great and a little heavy to lug around. So I bought different bags at a local store to keep tools separated in. These tools are heavier than dewalt or craftsman that I have (comparing drill and driver) but I like the feel of them. Battery life is great, and tools feel like good quality. I don’t use them daily, just for random house work, so can’t comment on daily durability ... show more

All batteries fit all the tools. The charges last long enough to swap and charge another battery. The charger is small and does not take up any room, unlike my old brand's HUGE mount. The Light is powerful enough to use under the car or house while you work in darkness, great in a power failure. I purchased an extra 4 hr battery as well, and have not run out of charge while using it yet. This set was bought as replacement for a set that was stolen, but I did not want to pay DeWalt prices. I'm currently doing a kitchen/basement remodel and these tools were an absolute necessity. The muti tool, jigsaw, and especially sawzall are very buzzy, almost to the point of being uncomfortable. As long as your not a professional and use them everyday though, no problem. I actually use every tool in the kit. The batteries are a little weak, the only real drawback of the kit. I did purchase 2 larger batteries for the saws and a 2 charger station with it too. A worthy purchase indeed. ... show more
