When my air finish nailer died, I bought this. Im already in the Porter Cable 20V platform, so I have lots of batteries. I don't need the larger gauge that my air nailer held, but I do need the option of longer brads. I wasn't sure how I would like the cordless nailer, but now that I have used it a fair amount, Im very happy with it. I don't have to fire up the compressor and wait for it to come up to pressure, just to shoot a couple nails. That alone is worth it. ... show more

I have used this nail gun for almost a year to tack casing and even fence pickets. It is very reliable and easy to operate. It also is not too heavy. Batter life is good and charges quickly. I would buy again.

When I received the Porter Cable 18 gage nailer, the first thing I did was put the battery on the charger, then I read the owners manual to be sure about how to operate the tool. It came with a pack of 300 brad nails of 2", 1.25" and 1" lengths. I first loaded the 2" brad nails, and tested the tool on a piece of 3/4" x 3.5" pine (commercial 1" x 4"). The tool came preset for the 2" brad since it sank the brad to slightly below the wood surface... perfectly! I decided to mark the orientation of the depth wheel on the side of the housing so I could easily find this depth position again. If you want to make a mark to re-locate a depth setting later, try marking above the slider window next to the adjusting wheel... I marked the wheel, not realizing the wheel spins more than one revolution (maybe more than 2 revs) going from shallowest depth to deepest. When you shoot a brad nail into wood with this tool, when you depress the trigger, you first hear a centrifugal motor spin up to speed, then engage and fire the nail. This accounts for the delay that many "commenters" have noted. For me this is where this tool gets its power... and this is what I really like about using this tool. I feel its power every time I use it. Using 18 gage brads is great for doing "finish" work… installing trim and molding, and holding work pieces together, etc. I mainly got this tool for installing foot-boards at the bottoms of my walls, and crown molding. The small 18 ga brads don't show up and are easy to fill with putty or to paint over. I debated long and hard about getting Porter Cable or getting my preferred Dewalt brand. I made the less expensive choice, and so far I am extremely glad I did. This tool has been perfect. It comes highly recommended. ... show more
