This product is a sleeve that surrounds the rope and closes with velcro. It offers the advantage of covering your rope when it lays across dirty or rough surfaces - the kind of surfaces that degrade a climbing rope from the outside or when dirt works its way into the fibers. The velcro runs the entire length of the sleeve and performs well. I doubt it would work itself loose. I would us this sleeve over dirty, sandy, or rough surfaces. I would hesitate to use it over a sharp edge. I was able to score my sleeve with light force of my pocket knife. The sleeve, while abrasion resistant, is thin and does not offer much padding for a rope going over a sharp stone edge. If that is your climbing environment you may want to consider another or an additional way of protecting your rope. But for the common situation where you want to keep dirt and moisture off your expensive rope this is a good accessory.

I usually cut some 1 inch tubular webbing to use as a rope sleeve for my top rope rigs. But this rope protector is much more versatile, easier to clean, pack and more rugged. The Tuscarora sandstone walls in my area tent to deposit some gritty bits into my gear and the tubular webbing sleeves aren't impervious to these elements. But with sleeve I can add it to any static or dynamic rope or even webbing. The rubberized material is quite rugged and the stitching also seems very well made. I like the rope loop and the additional hook & loop wrap. I'm not sure how much the little loop would used on a rope...maybe it's more for portabilityand used for a sling or carabiner? Glad to have this as part of my rigging. The cleaner my gear, safe I feel.
