  • Such a must for travel!
The media could not be loaded. You can't beat a classic. And THIS, this is a true classic. I remember my dad using an earlier version of this device back in the early 70's in motel rooms on family road trip vacations. It's so simple that it's brilliant. Put it in a cup of water, plug it in, turn it on, and in a few minutes you've got hot water. This particular one produced oatmeal ready water (warm/hot) in three minutes. In four and a half minutes there were tiny bubbles on the coils and rising up into the rest of the water. By six minutes I had a rolling boil in my coffee mug. What you do with that after the water's hot is up to you. Oatmeal, tea, coffee (instant or pour-over), instant ramen, etc. All you need is a plug to power the thing. I was thrilled that it came with a European adapter as well. I've worked with several of these over the years. Had one in my travel kit for the last five years. So why did I order this one? The hook. There's a small hook coming off the black housing that allows you to perch it on the edge of your cup - keeping the heating element right where you want it. So now it can also be used for a larger vessel such as a bowl or a pot. Another thing this has that my other one doesn't is an actual on/off switch. The price is much lower than the value of the item, and because it weighs so little, you can throw it in your luggage or purse and go! Heck, I think it might even fit in my coat pocket - it's got a pouch about that size. ... show more

  • So Far So Good
This handy mug heater lets me avoid going into my unheated kitchen to make a coffee. It is doing the job for now, but it seems to be made very cheaply, so I have doubts that it'll last long. I'm only giving it 3 stars for now because of how flimsy it seems. That said, I do like that it has an inline switch, even though they still recommend unplugging it when not in use. ... show more

  • Slower than a Microwave
I like the option of being able to heat water or a drink without a microwave since I do not currently have a microwave at work. It took 2 1/2 minutes to heat and they say to wait 20 seconds before you can remove it which is fine since I don’t have a microwave. My biggest concern is that it cautions against touching the water or risking a shock ⚡️! So this requires some trial and error especially if the water temperature changes with each use. This also requires that an outlet be somewhat close by which is not the case for me. The adapter really doesn’t help me at all, but what would help is a USB option so I can use my vehicle to warm up my drinks. ... show more

  • It's and excellent item for tose traveling that can't travel with glass items
Item will heat a glass of water really quick for tea or instant coffee or other hot water requirements for instant hot cereals. you could heat baby formula by attaching this item in a lager container of water then inserting the baby formula bottle inside that water testing it on your arm so it would not burn the infant. not recommended for some infants due to individual concerns for health. It is very compact and you can even make due if your water heater is out and you need a bowl of hot water for any purpose. Highly recommend ... show more

  • FAST hot water
This immersion heater works extremely fast to provide very hot water. The clip secures it to the edge of your cup and it is simple and easy to use. The soft case is great for taking it along when traveling or to store neatly when not in use. Suits our needs perfectly!

  • Brings the heat
I'd been wanting to try one of these to heat up drinks while away from a microwave. It's pretty basic, but seems well made. It takes quite a while to fully heat up the water, but it works well. The coil also seemed to cool down very quickly, going from almost boiling the water to being cool enough to touch pretty quickly, which made it easier to set it down on the counter without melting something! ... show more

  • Effective, Needs Precision or Patience
The media could not be loaded. We often travel and find ourselves in need of a cup of coffee/tea. Lugging an electric kettle is too much & the “kettle tumblers” all seem to have issues. With this heating element alone we should only need a vessel for water, water and tea/coffee. It comes with a waterproof travel bag, a European adapter and instructions. I wanted to give this a trial run before traveling with it to see exactly how effective it is. I’m glad I did. It is very effective and not really a “fussy” piece of tech. But it definitely has its quirks. The instructions are easy to read/understand. You are supposed to suspend the element in a vessel with water up to the hook (the hook in the instructions looks HUGE). In reality, the hook is teensy. I can see that keeping it narrow helps the heating element stay in place better and not tumble off into the water. But it is SHORT. You are not supposed to get water on the black unit the heating element comes out of. If you look through my pictures you can see that this is a feat. The instructions also warn against having water lower than the hook due to safety and fire hazards. So, water has to be high, up to the hook, which is itself short, but water shouldn’t get to the unit. The cord is heavy duty and the on off switch is a rocker - easy to manipulate. But the switch and the cord weigh as much as the heating element and unit - if not a bit more. The cord’s weight actually pulled against mine while I was trying to position it “just so” for the other requirements. I included a short video to show it working and working very well. Despite having to babysit it through this process, it was quick to heat, moderate to boil and quick to cool. I’m sure the boiling time will vary depending on volume and material. I’m taking a star for the hook being so tiny, or the design process being so inconsiderate of the plates they are asking a person to spin just to avoid sparks/fire/damage. I’m taking another for the designers not considering, again, what the weight of the cord and control would do with the heating unit. It is very effective. It does work. I will use this when we travel - I will also have to be very thoughtful about what cup/vessel I take/find to use with this due to its design and I will have to babysit it while it is in use. ... show more
