  • Making the tedious easy and perfect holes
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this drill guide. When I replaced my DeWalt drill, I didn’t realize the new one did not have the handy level built into the back which made drilling all the holes on a 4’ long cribbage board table so much easier. The stand is solid and doesn’t wiggle. You’ll enjoy this unit. ... show more

  • Did What it was Supposed to
Wish there was a way to secure object being drilled, other than that it worked for my project.

  • Handy tool.
Nice drill guide overall. Good quality and easy to use. Drills wood just fine but the accuracy when drilling metal is slightly compromised. Would recommend for occasional use but not for continuous use.

  • Solid Build, But Mixed Threads and Flex Hurt Precision
The ARTYMASTER drill guide offers a solid first impression with its all metal construction and decent overall build quality. It has a good amount of weight to it, which helps with stability, and the chrome plated rails move smoothly during operation. Out of the box, everything feels well made, no cheap plastic parts or obvious weak points and it’s clear this tool is designed with durability in mind. For basic straight drilling tasks, it does improve control compared to freehand drilling. That said, there are some frustrating design choices that hold it back. The biggest issue is the inconsistent threading, SAE threads on the slide bars but metric M6 threads on the base pins. It would have made far more sense to standardize everything to 1/4-20 to match the rest of the system. Because of this, I had to make an extra trip just to pick up M6x12mm flat head countersunk bolts to secure a jig I built, which shouldn’t be necessary for a tool like this. Mixing metric and SAE in one product feels like an oversight and complicates what should be a straightforward setup. Performance is also a bit hit or miss due to noticeable flex in the system. Even when starting holes with a center punch and using a custom jig to improve alignment, I still ended up with a few holes off by a few millimeters. In some cases, the flex was enough to slightly oval out the jig itself, which was pretty frustrating. While the concept is solid and it can be useful for light duty work, the lack of rigidity limits its precision. Overall, I’d call it a decent tool with potential, but the design flaws and flex keep it at a three-star rating. ... show more

  • Seems like a good value for the money
First impression is overall positive. It sits flat on a level surface with no detectable wobble. Seems well made and like a fairly good value for the money. I would have given 5 stars but the lack of a spring was somewhat disappointing.

  • A simple tool that really adds to my flexibility in the shop
I've had my eye on one of these for some time now. While I do have a desktop drill press, its a pain to get out and not always suitable for the project I am working on. This allows me to get the same level of precision that I get with my drill press virtually anywhere that has the clearance for this. My Makita drills provide ample power for the setup. The stop brake for depth, makes this a precision tool that adds tons of functionality in my shop. The bottom part of the tool is a somewhat grippy rubber on the bottom to keep the setup in place on your project. While I absolutely agree with what they did, I feel its important to note, that in a woodshop, the rubber WILL get dirty, and when it does it will want to move more. What I've done is the rubber down with a microfiber cloth and a bit of rubbing alchol or whatever gentle cleaner I have on hand - I suspect even a bit of water would be fine as long as it does not touch the metal parts - just to keep the rubber free of sawdust and dirt. The included handle makes it easy to hold in place, and the unit overall seems built well enough to withstand the casual rigors of a DIY woodshop like mine. Its priced well below what some of the name brand tools are asking, and IMHO accomplishes the same thing. Repeatable straight and true drilling with pretty much any driver. What I have found while using it is that its best to figure out your needed depth with the drill/driver off of the tool - set the brake firmly, then attach your tool for drilling. Makes things much less cumbersome. ... show more
