  • Once I figured it out, I loved it
For something so simple, it took me a little bit to figure out what each knob and screw did. The screws that lock the base to rail angle had me puzzled until I saw how they required an outward pull before turning. Now it all makes sense. Overall, the device is sturdy and lightweight due to its aluminum construction. While not really meant to hold a heavy drill/driver, it should work well with almost any light to medium weight drill. The depth stop rings are set in place with the help of a hex wrench and work well. The wrench doesn't have a place or any means to keep it attached or parked anywhere on the tool so it could be lost easily. On the other hand, it's a common size and I have a bag full of these hex keys to try out if I should ever loose one. Recommended tool where consistent depth and angle of drill holes are needed. ... show more

  • Handy tool with a few limitations
The media could not be loaded. I do not have a drill press and occasionally need to hole to be drilled at a specific angle at a specific depth, so I thought I would give this tool a try. There is a lot to like about this tool and there are a few things that could improve it. Positives: • The tool is made with a quality aluminum alloy material with a great finish. • The angle adjustability function can be quickly reset thanks to the easy-to-use telescopic pins. • The stop collar allows the user to control the depth of hole to be drilled. It is easy to set but the concept has some shortcomings (see below). • The dowel cradle has nice functionality. Simply drop a dowel in the two V shaped grooves and you are good to go. • The centering pegs, when installed on the bottom of the unit will quickly help the user find and drill into the exact middle of a board - quite useful. Note that you are limited to a board that is 4¾” inch wide maximum. Negatives: • When a drill is attached the assembly will become quite clumsy due to its top heaviness. The instability can be eliminated by screwing the tool into a base. Of could this is not always possible depending on the size of the board that is being drilled. • Care needs to be taken to ensure that your drill “go” button does not come in direct contact with the top of one of the guideposts. If it does the drill will turn on, rotating the drill bit. See the attached video to see how easily that can happen. • Regarding depth control, the scale on the guideposts is largely irrelevant unless the length of the drill bit from chuck to wood is an even number such as 4 inches. If it is 4.675 for example the scale will be very difficult to use. • Finally, and most importantly in my mind, it needs a mechanism to hold the drill and it’s bit off high off the surface to be drilled in order to facilitate set up. I used a small wood clamp with rubber ends to hold things up without damaging the guidepost. See the last photo. Wrap Up: • Despite the shortcoming, I will be using this tool whenever I need to drill a perfect hole, especially at a desired depth and/or at a specific angle. • If you are frequently working on something such as dowelling, the tool is a bit on the expensive side but worth the price. ... show more

  • Almost a Good Product
The base and indent holes for angles are awesome. The area where they miss the mark on this tool is the rails the drill glides on is not smooth. There's also not a lot of room to get your hand in there to tighten the drill onto the tool. I'm sure they dropped that area down to try and get a smoother operation on the rails, but just doesn't work well. I would like to tell the manufacturer to not give up on this product. Redesign the rails/sliding portion. Keep the wonderful base. Add some hand adjustable knobs as stops, and you have a winning product. Unfortunately I returned mine because of the flaws mentioned. ... show more

  • Very cool tool for achieving accurate angle drilling
Full disclosure, my motivation for buying this tool was to achieve accurate 90-degree drilling, so all of the extra angles is a bonus, which I may use someday. I purchased an economical plastic kit in the past, confined to 90-degree setup which was totally ineffective for me. This tool is very intuitive to use, so reading the instructions is not necessary. I read them anyhow, and no benefit. The guide rails are not heavy duty, in my opinion, so I definitely won't be tossing this thing around, but it does a great job performing what it was designed for: drilling precise angles. It has some V notches on top of the base for securing cylinders, if that is what you intend to drill into. Zero complaints. ... show more

This is great quality

  • Great first impression but... A couple issues exist.
The media could not be loaded. This portable drill guide on first impression appears to be of very good quality with adjustable angles featuring positive stops, a nice anodized finish, smooth vertical operation and a stable platform. There are a couple issues: * The drill chuck wobbles excessively, greater than .015inch ( see video) resulting in a very large tracking error when you add several inches of drill bit to the mix. * The drill chuck does not turn smoothly. I suspect a bad bearing. * The drill guide centering pins when installed on top of the base ( storage position) extend slightly below the base resulting in a base that rocks back and forth. This can be fixed in a couple seconds with a grinder but I should not have to. ... show more

  • Quality material and build, but...
This has all metal parts with quality build. Everyting feels solid and snug. But it still has two areas of improvements. First, the depth control collar is tightedn with a small allen wrench, which can be misplaced easily and its tedius to use. This should have been a permanent knob or wheel for quick heigh adjustments. Two, the chuck is not well balanced because it wobbles a bit when drilling. Not very bad, but noticeable enough that I wouldn't use this for precision cabinetry woodworking. At this price point, I feel this only deserves 3 stars. ... show more
