  • Excellent quality for a budget reel
Color: PL2000
Today I received the 2000 size reel I bought, and put 10lb braid on it with a 7' 4lb mono leader. I walked down to the pond for winter trout using spinners, Kastmasters, and jigs, on a 7' ultralight rod. (I caught just two Rainbows, about 12".) The reel is very smooth and quiet in operation, and the drag is very smooth. I like how the drag clicks when you tighten or loosen - I think that's helpful in setting it to precisely the degree of drag you want. I didn't try any heavy drag settings, but it was very smooth on light settings. In operation I didn't detect any wobble in the spool. There is a tiny, almost undetectable, bit of endplay in the handle elbow, but it's not at all noticeable in use. The bail operates very smoothly and closes with a solid click. It's clever how the handle folds if you press the button on the "elbow" of the handle. I don't think I've seen that before, but it helps when putting the rod away in a crowded rack. On retrieval, I was pleased to see that the line was laid evenly on the spool "up and down", without building up at either the top or bottom. It cast great. I've previously bought two other budget 2000 size reels - a Piscifun "Flame", and a Kastking "Brutus". These reels are all around the $20 price point. My initial feeling is that the Plusinno may be the best value. It seems more smooth in operation, precise, and solid than the other two. The Plusinno also lays line more evenly on the spool than the other two, and I think it casts further as a result. Time will tell how it holds up. I have hundreds of hours on the other ones, and they're still holding their own. At 8.5 oz. the Plusinno is about an ounce heavier than the Kastking. I don't know the weight of my Piscifun Flame, for comparison. So, it's a very good value, and seems to be very well made. I look forward to bundling up again and going out in the cold tomorrow with it. It would be helpful if Plusinno had more capacity information for lighter line sizes on the packaging and spool. I would think that many users of the 2000 size will be running 2-4 lb test line, and the lightest test and diameter they list in the capacity info is 6lb. I put some cheap 6 lb mono on for backing, and then added maybe 100 yards of the braid. I wanted to figure how much of each I could put on, and then count the turns of the handle, knowing there were about 24" of line reeled in per revolution of the handle. ... show more

  • Great value for the money!
So far I am impressed with the quality of built of this reel, especially for the price. It runs very smooth, the drag seems to engage smoothly too, nothing creaks or rattles. It's not particularly heavy, but leaves a very solid impression, and raises the expectation that it will last, even with some abuse. So far I have only been fishing 2 days with it, so this review is limited to impressions of a first hands-on. I haven't yet gotten a fish on big enough to test the drag, the comment about that is unfortunately derived from setting the reel up and from clear bites that miraculously turned into snags...I may update once I have used it a bit more and had some more luck with bigger fish, as well as some exposure to snow and ice. I do intend to use it for salmon and steelhead, so cold resistance is important. Winter is coming, I'll see how it fares soon! I do like the button on the crank that allows it to be quickly stowed without fumbling around with the screw on the crank. The mechanism looks solid, time will tell if it is as reliable as the low-tech solution. And while I'm much more into functionality than design, to me it also looks pretty good! Update February 2020: I have been using this reel for steelhead fishing this winter, it has been performing very well in the cold. Recently the drag was also very throughly tested by a 27" steelie that was barely hooked at the edge of the mouth. Drag was smooth as silk and headshakes and runs could not faze it. Seeing the hook come come off as soon as she was in the net, the reel was a big factor in successfully landing her. ... show more

  • Excellent value!
The media could not be loaded. I am honestly shocked at the quality of this sub $25 reel. I bought it, not expecting much, but it has vastly exceeded my expectations. It is a well built reel, with all the functions one would expect or need. One feature I've not seen before is a push button on the end of the reel handle that allows the handle to fold rather than the normal requirement to unscrew the handle. I find this feature very useful for storing rods in my rod locker so the handles don't get tangled in line of other rods and the handle doesn't get too loose and fall out. The specs seem to be very accurate. I was able to load a full 300 yd spool of .20mm 20 lb test braid on the spool with some room remaining. It is just about perfect and bodes well for the specified 270 yards of .25mm line. The reel operates smoothly, with just a small bit of wobble, that essentially goes away when mounted on a rod. I've paid much more for reels and gotten much worse balance. It is on par with the $45 Pflueger I use most of the time. It is sized comparably to other 3000 series spinning reels, but the spool is just a bit larger than normal, which I consider a good thing. While I've not yet had a chance to battle a fish, the drag does seem to operate smoothing in my simulated testing. The only reason I am not giving this reel 5 stars (I'd give it 4.5 if I could) is that the reel seat seems a little thicker than other similar reels. Since it is made of a very stiff graphite rather than metal, It may need to be a little thicker. It was a tight fit on my 13 Fishing Fate Black rod, but it does work. On other rods with larger reel seat opening, it will be no problem at all. I will likely end up buying more of these reels. I do like to have extra spools for my spinning reels so that I can easily swap line type/size and I'm not sure if you can get extra spools from this company. I do have a question in on that topic. Regardless, for the price, buying two complete reels is less expensive than a single reel and extra spool for many competing reels. Bottom line, this is an inexpensive, but high quality reel that will serve most fishermen very well! I was provided a reel to test, but my evaluation is the same as if I had bought the reel outright. ... show more
