I have owned this for a few months and have used it to stream quite a bit. I really like the quality of the stream and have zero complaints on that part. However there is a connection issue that will give you the black screen like others have said. Unfortunately this happens every time you turn off the device that you are wanting to stream. On my xbox it happens when it sleeps too. But there is a fix, in obs click disable on the video device. Then unplug the HDMI then count to three. Click activate then plug in the cord, works every time. if you want to save a couple extra bucks this is a great card. Yes it sucks that you have to pull the plug each time but you are saving 30-60 bucks on the card. ... show more

  • Plugable really cares about its customers
The product itself has been great for me. I don't use it for streaming but simply for capturing video feeds. The box its solid and feels very well built. Solid metal case, its built to last. However it is notable how Plugable treats their customers. I contacted them because I had misplaced the USB a to USB C cable that came with the capture card. For some reason any other USB A to C 3.x cable didn't work, but I knew the one that shipped with it did. I could not find it anywhere. I contacted their customer support to ask if it was possible to purchase just the A to C cable to get a replacement. They verified my warranty status (in warranty) and sent out a replacement set of cables right away, no charge at all! Right...there was nothing wrong with the product, nothing wrong with the cables, it was not a defect, I simply lost them. But they covered that under warranty and send me replacements anyway. I own a number of Plugable products and have had great luck with them. I have contacted their tech support with questions a couple of times and always been satisfied, but this cable thing is just next level. I would go out of my way to buy Plugable whenever I could. This company is worthy of my business. As a Linux user, the fact that may of their products are officially supported on Linux also is a major plus for me. Far too few manufacturers pay any attention to Linux, and even if their product works flawlessly on the OS, they don't even officially acknowledge it. Plugable does and I really appreciate that. ... show more

  • Cheaper that some others, but give as good of quality.
I like the cheapness. I don't have an Elgato to compare it with. But it video seems as good a $35 capture card. It is small, fits like a cable, it could just hang.

  • Ehh, close, but it's going back.
1080p60 capture performed with this card offers completely broken color reproduction. Actually, 720p60 did as well. Basically, if you try to capture anything at 60 fps, be it in OBS, vMix, xSplit - you get color reproduction that is wayyy off. I saw on the manufacturer's website that they provided some explanation for this, blaming the Windows UVC driver. I'm sure the statement is made in good-faith, but the bottom-line is, Magewell and Elgato's UVC devices don't have this limitation, I can feed them anything UP TO 1080p60, and it just works. Why shouldn't it here? Aside from that, even when in 30p mode, I got very bad color-banding and artifacts in the opening portion of Breath of the Wild, a test five minutes later with my CamLink encountered no such issues (I don't recommend the CamLink either by the way). I configured every option imaginable and searched through the FAQs on their site, but after a full evening I never any luck getting this thing to perform close to how it should. I have 6+ years experience in professional broadcast production, and I did almost all of my mixing on Windows-based rigs, so I've used alot of capture devices. I did have high hopes for this one but it falls just a bit short. ... show more

  • Works right out of the Box.
The media could not be loaded. I am using a Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Laptop. The quality you get at this price point is amazing. I am using this capture card as a upgrade from my hauppauge hd pvr 2. While looking around for a USB C capture card, I took a gamble with this company and it paid off. I personally will be sure to use them and suggest them in the future. (mind you this review is coming from the perspective from someone who is a computer nerd & twitch streamer) Just like most devices, leave it on long enough, it will get a little warm/hot (dont worry doesn't hurt). The only downside is that the audio has to be added in, its not with the HDMI signal but it works fine with no delay as far as i can tell. In case you need to sync audio. Plugable has a youtube video that shows how you can do it with OBS and similar programs for local recording/streaming. I added a screenshot to show how i have my audio added in alongside the capture source. I have also added a photo showing the color difference. Left side is my PS TV monitor (ya know the 3d one they sold for the ps3) and on the right is my laptop monitor with OBS Preview at full screen. Due to brightness difference between the two. The OBS preview looks better over whats being shown on the TV in my opinion. However to ensure i get the same quality. I made sure that my PS4 & OBS RGB Limiter is set the same to each other. If they made a upgraded version of this capture card where the audio doesn't have to be added as its own source, i would totally buy it again but as a budget gamer/twitch streamer. This card is totally worth the cost and I think you'll be hard pressed to find this kind of quality at this price point. ... show more

  • Requires Replug and Play
I purchased this for multi-camera angles using X-Split Broadcaster. X-Split picks it up very nicely but there are times issues where the device is not recognized. This often requires the camera (Sony 405) to be reset (turned on and off) and the USB cable unplugged and reattached/read by the computer. I have seen some lag when plugging this (and my Nikon D5200 into a USB C to USB 2.0 multi-port adapter, but found that this is generally caused by the USB-C to USB adapter which most likely is just not handling the through put. However, once up and running, this device works like a charm. It definitely warrants 5 stars for production capability and 4 stars for the set-up issues. Overall, though, the set-up issues are more an annoyance than a usability issue. ... show more
