🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The PSVR2 offers a superior gaming experience, with high-quality picture and immersive reality that stimulates all the senses. Setup and play is straightforward with a single cord connecting to the PS5, and an in-visor button brings back real-life surroundings. The gaming catalog provides a variety of selections, though some users noted they expected sharper image quality.

Pros

  • 🎮 Great improvement over PSVR1, impressive graphics, and superior picture quality.
  • 👯‍♂️ Supports streaming and multi-player games, encouraging social interaction.
  • 🕹 User-friendly setup, easy transitions from PS5 game to PSVR2, simplified controls.
  • 😯 Real-world surroundings can be instantly accessed.

Cons

  • 🖼 Some users wished for sharper image quality. Despite high expectations, some found the provided imagery to be less than desired.
  • 🎲 Though immersive, the experience doesn't deter some from playing games on a 4K TV.
  • 🪒 Setup could be a bit complicated initially, as well as getting used to the controllers.
  • 🌐 No official PC support and a currently weak PSVR2 game library.

Should I Buy It?

If you are an avid PS5 gamer who prefers an immersive, social gaming experience, the PSVR2 might just be your ticket. Although it has some minor cons, the overall opinion is that it offers a superior, interactive gaming encounter, making it worth the investment.

  • Blown away
This is our first vr setup, I actually didn't even know this existed because Sony was so lame in promoting it but the sale popped up on Amazon and figured if it was just an orphan system that wasn't that great then oh well, I've spent 300 bucks on dumber stuff. Original Atari 2600 is about $1400 inflation adjusted so this is kind of a bargain. It's *way* better than I imagined, aside from the headband setup which I'm going to remedy with a 3rd party pad/strap that gets rave reviews from Globular Cluster. Setup was easier than some people made it out to be as was getting the sweet spot for viewing, the key to the stock support setup is having the back strap very low and the forehead side up high and cranked down snug. It's still pretty bad though for long duration use. So far I've played a bit of GT7, amazing, a rollercoaster game which while graphically a bit dated was stomach churningly fun and the demo for PoolsVR which looked really lame on the youtube videos I saw but a free demo is a good price. It's crazy, I didn't think walking around alone in white tile pool rooms with nothing to do but walk could possibly be interesting but it has to be experienced to know, it's just bonkers. Pretty much every other game/demo included on PS+ is in the process of being downloaded as I just want to try everything. I'd avoided vr so long thinking it was just a gimmick (not to mention super expensive till now) but I've not been this jazzed by a new video game thing since literally 30 years ago when I was so awestruck by the original Playstation that on launch day I played with the dinosaur demo for at least 2 hours before even touching an actual game. Update after *lots* of use - Gran Turismo 7 on this is just amazing, worth the price for it alone. Currently I don't have a wheel since my G27 stopped being compatible after PS3 but I almost don't care now. PSVR2 made more of a difference than going from a controller to a wheel did, by a lot. Driving with a controller has gone from a struggle to a joy as car control and spin recovery just feels natural and intuitive now. I can get golds on all the license tests now with a controller which I didn't think was possible. Why Sony isn't shouting about this from the rooftops is a mystery. Get the Globular Cluster comfort mod for sure, absolutely necessary I think or you'll tire of the headset quickly. If your eyes aren't perfect, even if they are just a little bad like mine, get some lenses. I got HONS VR but there are others and some do magnetic frames for easy swaps, the sharp focus and reduced eye strain are great and protecting your stock lenses is worth it alone. Lenses were 50 for me and 90 for my wife who has an awful prescription, I was expecting hundreds because that's what glasses cost. She loves that for the first time in 45 years she isn't looking at the world through a frame and there is no way she could have played this without them. It's a shame Sony didn't do a better job on the stock headset but there is nothing they can do about my eyes. The extra $100 for the comfort mod and my lenses changed this from a future dust collector to my goto gaming choice. ... show more

  • Massive improvement over PSVR
I hated the first PSVR headset with a passion. It was the biggest waste of money I’ve ever experienced; In my 3 years of owning it, I maybe used it 10 times bc of how much of a hassle it was to set up and the lackluster gaming experience. I mean it when I say the PSVR2 is light years ahead of the first one. Almost every problem I had was not only addressed, but completely solved. There is 1 cable, that’s it. No more multiple HDMI cables and a whole separate module to run the headset. Just 1 usb c that plugs into the front of your PS5. That alone is worth the price of admission. The controllers are far superior, more similar to VR controllers for PC platforms than the Wii remote rip off from the first one. A built in headset, so you don’t have to plug in your old earbuds and have them constantly ripped out of your ears. The ease of use is the best part about this. It takes maybe 45 seconds to set up, disregarding the play area scanning, that can take a little while if your room is a little wonky and doesn’t have a square area you can scan. I’ve played a few games so far, with the Horizon game being the best in my opinion. It’s awesome shooting a bow and actually having to pull the arrow back and reach over your shoulder to grab another one. It’s immersive as all hell and I love it. You have to play No Man’s Sky as well, the flying is quite possibly the coolest gaming experience I’ve ever had. Actually being able to control the throttle and joystick is insane. I do wish Sony would back some more games for this headset, as the lineup is a little weak, especially compared to what is available on other VR platforms. But the big titles that are here are solid and will be enough to justify this very expensive purchase in my opinion. My only issues with the headset itself are the lenses and the lack of airflow. The picture quality isn’t perfect, it will look blurry if you don’t adjust the lenses perfectly, there’s really no margin of error for that unfortunately. Even when you do find that perfect adjustment, it’s still a little blurry. I find myself taking the headset off quite a lot because of how hot it can get under it. The lenses fog up a lot and I have to wipe the sweat off of my face, which completely breaks the immersion. Overall, I love this thing. I’ve used it more in the 2 weeks I’ve owned it than I did in the 3 years I owned the first headset. I’d say wait for a sale to come around if you’re not totally sold on VR and aren’t really sure if this is something you’ll use a lot. If you do like VR and can see yourself using this quite often, then I’d absolutely recommend buying it as soon as you can. This is an incredible experience. ... show more

  • Flexible and the Immersion Feels great due to Highly Detailed Graphics
I bought it as a Christmas gift for a cousin, and today I finally tested it. I have little experience with PSVR 1, but I didn't like the graphics much, though the gameplay was fun. What makes PSVR2 times better, it's not only you get better immersion, but the Immersion impact is multiplied by a big factor because the graphic details and resolution makes you feel that you are close to a real environment. As for the Gameplay, the first thing I thought about when I started is that I definitely want a VR Treadmill to fully complete the immersion. The control is very flexible, you can chose to move with body movements or with joysticks, and 2 other gameplay configs that give 3 options each. Here is things I was able to do so far in terms of interactions: - Put my hand in water, tap the water - Swimming - Climbing ladders and mountain walls by grabbing with Z (At a certain point I felt the muscle pain in my arm, but not for long) - Grabbing and putting back Bow and Arrow behind my back, aiming and shooting - Grabbing plate, move plate, grabbing a pot and put it on a plate - Grabbing and eating apples - Fight, dodge and shoot a big beast with arrows (Much Fun) Overall, PSVR2 didn't disappoint my expectation. And now we can focus on getting more games and eventually another PRSV2 and Treadmills when possible to experience full immersion and Co-Ops features. ... show more

  • Endless desighn flaws you end up paying to fix for a useable experience.
I have... a lot of issues with this thing. Just to get the big one out of the way right off the bat. The single biggest thing is that the cable is non user replaceable. If you damage the cable, which is the single easiest and most common part of literally any electronic to damage, but Especially a VR headset, you have to send it in to get repaired, if they even allow that. The cable isn't soldered in, but it's connected internally with a proprietary connector, so if you wanted to replace it yourself you'd have to take the thing apart... except you can't anyways because of that connector, and the inability to buy a replacement cable. This is, in my opinion, absolutely unacceptable design. And basically makes a cable pulley system a requirement to keep your cable as safe as it can be, or it's only a matter of time before you accidentally damage it and are in for a costly repair bill, as well as god knows how long to ship it out and get it back. God forbid you have a pet that likes nibbling on cables. Secondly that sweet spot issue. I underestimated how bad this is when I bought it. Even as close to perfect as it can be it's still really difficult to read text or make out detail from a distance. If this thing shifts even a millimeter out of place it's Blur city, as well as looking anywhere but straight ahead. I have experience with headsets with the pancake lenses, and the difference is night and day. It's almost hard to get blurry vision from those on purpose. But even the lenses on original htc vive weren't this frustrating. I never expected them to be worse than one of the first two commercially successful VR headsets ever. What makes this worse is the damn thing won't stay put. Unlike most headsets, you're not supposed to rest this on your nose or face at all, and there's no overhead strap. This thing is designed to be held in place purely by pressure from ratcheting the headband closed, with the monitor just sort of hanging in front of your face... and it simply doesn't work even if you crank it head-splittingly tight. Especially if you have long hair, your hair's lack of friction with itself makes it impossible for this thing to hold itself in place. Or at least, more impossible. Which basically means, consider the Globular cluster headband upgrade for this a mandatory purchase. It fixes most of these issues except the lack of ability to rest it on your nose/face. For which there's an additional 3rd party product you can get, which I haven't yet, but intend to. Together with the globular cluster upgrade that's an additional 90$ roughly. The mic has no mute button... Honestly this should speak for itself. I shouldn't have to explain why the lack of ability to mute the mic is horrendously bad. The only way to mute it is to supposedly re-map the look-through button, which is a vr headset requirement especially with how inconvenient it is to take this thing on and off due to the required tightness and microscopic sweet spot. And regardless, I haven't even figured out a way to do this on PC if it's possible at all, which is the platform I'm using it on. The headphones it comes with are earbuds... This I knew going in, and intended on replacing them with something better later. But it bears mentioning. If you hate earbuds half as much as I do, or ever intend on allowing another person to use the headset, different headphones are also a required purchase. The ones Sony sells specifically to fit with this headset are over 100$ and don't even attach to the headset so are an additional step to taking this on and off. So you're ether paying up a price bracket, have to find your own solution, or get Globular cluster's solution to this problem too which isn't cheap ether. Problems on problems, some with costly solutions you have to buy for even a useable experience. And the rest with no solution whatsoever. If you're getting this for PC... wait for the steam frame, or if it's out by the time you're reading this, save up for it. The money you save getting this over the frame will get eaten up immediately on borderline mandatory purchases just to make this headset feel reasonable to use. I wish I waited myself. I've probably paid an additional 300$ on additions and upgrades to make this feel like an actual complete product already. By the time I'm happy with it I might as well have just bought a 1000$ headset and had a functional out of the box experience. And If you're getting this for Playstation... I'm sorry. Not to mention since this requires software from sony to run on PC... It's also just a matter of time before Sony pulls the plug on support for it and you're left with a brick, if you're getting it for PC. ... show more

  • Great on Black Friday Great on Black Friday
Genuinely worth it for GT7 on wheel alone. The tech is great to have fun with. I recommend getting on Black Friday like I did in 2025 as it's a good deal at that point. The weight is light enough and fits well enough for about 3 hours of play time before it starts to wear on your head. (Pun intended) ... show more

  • doesn't stay properly on my head
After spending a couple of days with the psvr2 for PC vr. suffice it to say, I'm thinking about buying the quest 3. but samsung is supposedly coming out with a new one, who knows when. I own these 3: quest2 psvr2 odyssey+. but I also own psvr 1 and hp reverb g2. but those 2 are not good. And I play beatsaber every other day for exercise. image quality goes to psvr2, then quest 2, then odyssey+, odyssey+ is a low resolution pixilated mess. compared to the other 2. psvr2 has better resolution and image quality thanks to the oled panels compared to the quest 2. field of view. odyssey+ and the psvr 2 are about on par with each other. quest 2...its a face hugger, which is my number 1 issue with the quest 2. supposedly they fixed this with the quest 3. performance goes to psvr2, then odyssey+, then quest 2. performance is stuttering, so quest 2 is streaming from pc, there's often issues with connecting to the pc and running it stand alone has several stutters. psvr2 and odyssey+ are just displays from the pc. so its how good is your pc. and I've never had any real issues connecting them to the pc. tracking, quest 2 and odyssey are on par with each other. some slight hiccups but good enough. quest 2 has this weird occasional lag while the odyssey+ only has 2 cameras and this causes it to lose tracking when out of view causing issues. psvr2 slightly worse. it drops the controller occasionally, supposedly due to bluetooth issues. the tracking itself feels light, i don't know if this is the controllers being light or the feedback. the feedback is weird compared to the other 2. but it doesn't feel one to one with my hand movements verse what I'm seeing. head band, odyssey+, quest 2, psvr2. I must have an odd shaped head because the psvr2 is the worst and I even bought the upgraded head strap everyone recommends. while the recommended strap does improve the situation, it does not resolve it. on the other 2 headsets, I don't think about the head strap. but I would say the quest 2 is slightly better than the odyssey+. The odyssey+ suffers a similar issue as psvr2, but not nearly as bad and it could be easily resolved by a center strap, but it's old and out dated. The psvr2 feels like its falling off my face. pushing into my glasses. basically the rear pad does not stay and slowly slips upward causing the headset to go down on my face. this completely ruins the experience. I don't understand how they got it right with the psvr 1 and completely failed with the psvr 2. that was the one reason why I wanted the psvr 2. the head band on the psvr 1 is great. the best out of all of them. so I don't know how they can fail so miserably on the second one. this reason alone is why I'm considering the quest 3. ... show more
