🚀 Abunda's Overview

The PlayStation VR2 offers a unique and immersive gaming experience that makes users feel they're inside their games. While most reviewers find the virtual reality experience impressive, some faced struggles with image clarity and experienced motion sickness. Many mentioned that the set-up process can be complex and the controllers take time getting used to. However, the pros seem to outweigh the cons, with the VR2 offering a seamlessness in transitioning from standard PS5 gameplay.

Pros

  • 💎 Superior picture quality compared to competitors
  • 🔄 Seamless transition between PS5 and PSVR2 games
  • 🔀 Button to quickly switch back to real-life surroundings
  • 💬 Allows for social experiences with private match options
  • 🎮 Immersive gameplay that lets users truly feel inside games

Cons

  • 👀 Image clarity issues and red/blue borders for some users
  • 🔃 Motion sickness experienced by some players
  • 🕹 Takes time to get used to the controllers
  • ⚙ Complex set-up process
  • 🚪 Some users reported a reduced field of view

Should I Buy It?

If you're an enthusiastic gamer who enjoys immersive experiences and own a PS5, the PlayStation VR2 could be a thrilling addition to your gameplay. However, those with motion sickness, or prioritizing high-quality imagery, might want to try it out first to see if it meets expectations.

  • Very cool . . . but sadly . . . I am getting old
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
The sad thing for me in writing this review is that I'm going to write a pretty much glowing review for something I might not be able to keep using. Not because it's damaged . . . the system is pretty solidly constructed and connected to my PS5 with no issues. Not because it doesn't function well . . . it's actually significantly better than the PS4 VR, which I did really enjoy, the spacial awareness of the system is honestly amazing and it makes it SO much easier to recognize your play area than setting up soft things on the floor so I could feel if I went too far. And not because there aren't good games for it . . . there's a really solid catalogue of fun games available (and some upgrades to PS4VR classics). The problem is just that my eyes are not what they used to be, and suddenly I find myself getting very dizzy and nauseous for an extended period of time after playing. Which really stinks because the new controllers fix pretty much every gameplay issue I had with the PS4VR and the visuals are even cleaner than before. I'm gonna keep trying here and there (hopefully it's just a matter of finding the right levels, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, right amount of food in stomach, etc.) in the hope that I'll figure it out and be ale to enjoy it. HOWEVER, don't let that be a deterrent if this is up your aisle and you already don't tend to get motion sick. If you're looking for a good VR system, this one is fantastic! They even make an adapter so you can use it with your PC if you are so inclined! ... show more

  • HIGH QUALITY VR
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
As a disclaimer, I bought this PSVR2 on sale for 350$ and the rest of this review will be reflective of THIS price point. At 550$ My rating would drop by one star, but that is for another day. Comfort (4.5/5): So, I’ve only ever owned this VR headset and the Quest 2. I don’t know how it compares to other headsets, but I have always found it to be comfortable enough for a couple of hours without issue. I know that there’s a strap you can buy if you find that it slips during high movement games or depending on your head shape. Library(4.5/5): Taking into consideration the games coming out this year and the fact that this headset probably has at least two more years of content coming to it. I’m happy to say that most of you will be happy with the library! The only issue here is that it doesn’t have Half Life: Alyx. But, given the new PC adapter you find access to two PC (Steam)! Ease of use/installation(5/5): If you use this on PlayStation, there is like ZERO setup (aside from initial or compared to some PC headsets). I’ve personally never had issues with using it or connecting it. I have also never had the controller issues that some people have had, though *OCCASIONALLY (once or twice every dozen hours) I do get controller tracking hiccups from it. But ultimately it is very good and reliable. Graphics(5/5): Now, before anyone is a smart but, no it is not better than a 2-3 THOUSAND dollar setup. If you have money go buy something else. What I am telling you, is if you already bought a PS5/Pro for OTHER reasons then this 350$ price point is an AMAZING offer. The graphics look good and crisp thanks to foviated rendering. It also runs at a consistent 120 fps in the games that I have played it on, which is mainly Arizona Sunshine 1 & 2, GT7, Metro: Awakening, Beat Saber, and No Mans Sky! So I *personally get NO motion sickness. Price(5/5): At 350$, PSVR2 makes a fantastic purchase and a great headset. It’s only real competitor at this price point is Quest 3, which is great as well but for different audiences. However, if you are reading this after the sale the I would say WAIT! The headset is great but it is missing a Alyx sized game to justify 550$ ... show more

  • Great VR system
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
I bought this for my son and he loves it. He has gotten a lot of use out of it and hasn't had any issues with it. He says it's comfortable for long periods of use and being adjustable, it fits a wide range of head sizes. It's nice that he can see his surroundings while wearing it without having to take it off. The audio seems to be good as well. He can hear what's going on in his games without it being loud to anyone else. ... show more

  • I can't get enough
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
I know I know, it's not the best VR system on the planet. But it has several things going for it. First of all, I can play in the living room where my PS5 is. My gaming computer is in a small office shared by my fiancée's computer so not nearly enough room to use VR unless I'm sitting in my chair. Second, the price point seems to be really good for a system with 2k resolution per eye and OLED screens. I primarily bought the PSVR2 for Gran Turismo 7, easily my favorite franchise, and the VR for that game is exquisite. Maybe too good, at least at first. It's so good that my mind and body couldn't comprehend going around corners and through dips and inclines and not feeling the various forces involved, and it started to give me some pretty bad motion sickness, something that I've never really had to deal with before. Thankfully I've been easing my way into it and it's getting better every time I try it. But in the meantime, I've been playing other games a lot. I've spent more on VR games in the last month than any other games combined. Puzzle games like Humanity, Puzzling Places, and Tetris Effect are all a lot of fun in VR. But the absolute best part is the fitness games. Finally a way to get me off the couch and getting some exercise! Beat Saber, Synth Riders, Pistol Whip, and Les Mills Body Combat are my go-to games for active playing, and I love having finally found a way to get some exercise without it feeling like a chore. Don't think, just buy. You'll love it. ... show more

  • Could have been perfect, controller issues
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
I am a PSVR user so PSVR2 is definitely a vast improvement specially on graphics. Although it has less padding, the design of the headset is great in terms of ergonomics and materials; the rubber is much better than the old peeling rubber of the PSVR. That being said, I will not give it 5 stars because of the well documented controller issue. Out of the box I noticed the right controller was not working properly. As many other users, I found that both controllers seemed to work fine in the PS5 menus but not in the game. I spent the first day troubleshooting and was frustrated thinking I would have to return the whole thing. The issue is well discussed on the Internet but the solution is not. The issue I had (I guess the most common) was apparently fixed using a workaround which consists in launching the games with a different controller and turning on the PSVR2 Sense controller once in the game. Still after finding this workaround, I was surprised to find that Sony has not to this day acknowledged this widespread issue, and also that this does not happen to some lucky users. I continued finding many suggestions on how to fix it but those all sounded unrelated to the root cause. Finally, I found that you can connect the controllers to your PC and use the Gamepad Tester website to see the values it is reporting. I found that my left controller had no issue and that the right controller was reporting a value like if I was pressing R2 very slightly (-0.83 instead of -1) even when it was fully depressed. It looks like this is a manufacturing issue when some “debris” prevent the trigger button (R2 in my case) to report -1 when fully depressed. You can check this in any search bar in the PS5 menu and notice that nothing happens when you press de trigger (caps lock if the issue is in the left controller or Done in the right controller). So when you start a game, the game detects that you are pressing the trigger even if you are not and this causes issues and weird behavior inside the game (each game is different). This is considered a hardware issue and that is the reason why Sony is not able to “patch” it. Some people contact Sony for a replacement or return the PSVR2 and they have the right to do it, but I first gave the “blow/flick” method a try since it is very easy to do and cause no harm to the controller. I pushed the trigger all the way and then using a compressed air blower, I used it in the small gap between the button and the controller. After that, I gave the trigger a couple of flicks (press and release) and measure the values again with the Gamepad tester website). To my surprise, the controller is now reporting -1. The “debris” inside were somehow removed and now I have a perfectly working controller. Just want to say that even if this worked for me, your issue could be different, so use the Gamepad Tester website and find yourself if it is your case too. I am glad I did not retuned the unit and that I can now enjoy the PSVR2. So bad that I spent the first hours with it troubleshooting instead of playing though… ... show more

  • Bad controllers - Two bad units and lots of headache with Sony
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
I bought the PS VR 2 accepting that there wouldn't be a long list of titles. So long as it's a good VR experience, I'd be ok with the cost. I already owned Gran Turismo and I bought three popular games (Horizon Call of the Mountain, Walkabout Mini Golf and Beat Saber), only to discover that the controllers were almost unusably buggy. If it was a few glitches I might have been ok with it. I literally couldn't progress in Horizon Call of the Mountain. I thought perhaps I got a bad unit and replaced the ps vr 2 for a second unit from BestBuy (Amazon doesn't allow for a second purchase or replacement), only to run into the same problems again. Being tech savvy I tried everything under the moon. Firmware updates for both controllers and ps5, turning things on and off, resyncing and speaking with Sony. No luck. I suspect Sony has software bugs with the unit, because buttons on the controller would work on the main screen, but not in game. To make insult to injury worse, I'm stuck with 3 ps vr 2 titles that are unplayable and Sony won't refund despite the inability to even play the games. (I wasted at least 3 hours with customer support for all issues related to the PS VR 2 and games, I took screen recordings of my extensive problems... they didn't care) I've bought Sony products for decades knowing they make solid products. Unfortunately, this was my first bad product with the company and it was a pretty bad stinger. And to have it happen with two units... I suspect they have significant problems to sort out. ... show more
