View larger The pair of PlayStation 3D glasses included with the display offer best-in-class Active shutter 3D quality and built-in USB rechargeable batteries. PlayStation 3D glasses are optimized to sync seamlessly with the PlayStation 3D display, but their universal design makes them compatible with a variety of Active Shutter 3D displays. Active Shutter 3D technology offers superior image quality over competing Passive 3D technologies by means of the differing processes they execute. Both technologies create the illusion of depth by slightly altering what users' eyes are exposed to. Passive 3D glasses block different kinds of emitted light from reaching each eye. The result is a 3D effect, but one in which certain light data has been omitted. In some cases this can equate to up to half of the available lines of resolution, meaning that this type of 3D effect can not reach the level of true 1080p HD. Active 3D on the other hand does not omit light sources from the spectrum, instead producing its 3D effect through a subtle dimming process of the individual lenses. PlayStation 3D glasses manage this effect seamlessly through their infrared connectivity. The result is a superior 3D effect, at full HD quality. Infrared connections between glasses and other components, as well as other 3D processes are kept constant through the glasses 30-hour rechargeable battery life. SimulView Technology Improves the 2-player Gaming Experience Fans of co-op and competitive gaming modes are intimately familiar with local split-screen multiplayer functionality, which literally splits the visible display area of a single TV used in offline play to show the differing actions of individual players participating in the same game, at the same physical location. As advantageous as this is for group play, the quality of even the sharpest of HD television displays is compromised by the halving of the viewable area. SimulView Technology does away with this issue by enabling two players in a supported game to see their actions in-game displayed as full-screen. projections. (The full requirement for the effect are: a PlayStation 3D Display, 2 pairs of PlayStation 3D Glasses, a PS3 system, a PS3 game that supports SimulView, and two players) Built on the Active 3D glasses technology and specially enhanced for gaming, SimulView technology brings players deeper in the game than ever before while still sharing the experience with a friend. Games supporting SimulView technology include MotorStorm Apocalypse, Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, Super Stardust HD, with more titles in development and coming soon. • Bad on Amazon's Part, Product = AMAZING
I was Very skeptical about this display, i had never used 3D in my home, or experienced it at a friend's, but i knew Sony makes very high quality products. I had almost cancelled my order with Amazon, but they had already charged my card when i found out they had run out of the bundles, even though i preordered on the 20th of october. thats what a preorder is isnt it? to have atleast enough for the preorders? well, i also had found out that the game promised on the other page was not going to be included; i argued with customer service multiple times and overall they compensated me $25. the thing that surprised me however, was that after i had recieved my order yesterday, they still sent me an email for $59.99 off of resistance 3, so completely free. so, i got the bundle and the game, and $25 extra, all for when i was only supposed to be getting the bundle. Amazon usually is very good, i get virtually every electronic item i buy, from amazon, and i had never had this problem, so when this happened i was pissed. then yesterday they send me the email for R3 for free? i felt like everything would be forgotten soon, and in fact i just preordered the PSVita Bundle from amazon, hoping they actually ship it on time and keep their promise of (possible) preorder bonuses. Now onto the bundle itself: It comes with: the Playstation 3D display (not a tv, no cable tuner or remote), Base and Base connector included 1 pair of 3D simulview glasses, with 6" usb charger 1 HDMI Cable, capable of full 1080p, 3D, and Ethernet. 1 Copy of Motorstorm Apocalypse (only game i know of at this point with simulview capabilities) various manuals and instructions. the tv itself is amazing quality. in fact, i am making this review on it right now. it has 2 HDMI connectors for pc, ps3, xbox, blue ray, etc. 1 component, for i am assuming, like i do, record gameplay, major game capture devices like the Roxio game capture card and the hauppage HDPVR use component cables. being that the display is made for gamers would mean they would realize this. using HDMI is quite stunning. in 2D, everything is crisp and clear, bright and vivid; one of the better displays out there. there is a little bit of smudging it appears, or in another review, dust. it is only visible with a all white screen or from not looking head on. i am assuming it is something to do with 3D, which is great, but the i havent explored it enough to fully give a reliable review on that part, but once i start playing uncharted 3 and assassins creed revelations in 3D i am sure to be blown away. the component is as good as i expected, but not better or worse. there is quite a bit of ghosting, due to the fact i can only record in 1080i with my Roxio, which is a capture card, not an hdpvr, but its pretty good none the less. link to unboxing/gameplay/setup: [...] the 3D glasses themselves are, i am sorry to say, made of low grade plastic, and seem like it would be easy to break them. not bad though considering the price, and they are the only glasses on the market that support simulview right now. work well enough though. the usb cord included to charge the glasses are TINY. literally 6", not quite enough. not a big problem though, any micro usb charger will do i believe. HDMI cable is a good quality, sony cord. delivers 1080p+ and 3D obviously, and Ethernet. Nothing much to say... I was not able to test the simulview with motorstorm, having this purchase totally tanked me; i am broke, so therefore i was not able to get an extra pair of glasses, sorry. the manuals i found, except for the 3D glasses one, are completely unneeded. setup was the easiest technical setup ever, slap the base together, put the display on it, merely another snap, plug the power in, plug something in eg. ps3, and you are ready to go, 3d even. all in all, i think this bundle was a worthwhile and useful purchase, maybe not $500 worth, but definately quality; it will last awhile, and will continue to be one of the better looking pictures for 2D and 3D. i can tell you i will entirely enjoy it, now and for a long, long time. forgetting the trouble with amazon, and this was a solid purchase. if you are willing to pay $500, definately a must buy, but buy it at gamestop while uncharted 3 is included at no extra cost; Resistance 3 was just a preorder bonus. ... show more

  • Great
I bought this monitor to replace another 24 inch monitor I had as it died. The price seemed good and hey it just so happened to have 3d and I happened to have a ps3. As an exttra monitor for my laptop its nice colours are really vibrant. They seem to good to be true actually. One small downfall is there is a hint of blue tint but I don't mind as it does not detract from what I am seeing. So as an additional 24 inch monitor it rocks. The 3d game bundle with it left me thinking 3d was a bit over hyped cause I did not find motorstorm 3d genuinely that good. However I realised I had another game called wipeout HD on my ps3 HDD which was 3D compatible. This game uses 3D well. It was magnificent I made a 180 degree turn in my thoughts of 3D from what I thought after playing motorstorn. I never looked at graphics the same after in fact I could not go back to playing standard games how they were before. Then I downloaded Killzone 3 demo, God of War origns (or something along those lines) and Resistance 3. Killzone looked epic, god of war descent (probably ranked a little above motorstorm) and Resistance 3 was a bit scarier now that scary creatures were 3D. So 3D is a major plus for games depending on how the developer uses it. Movies I got Avatar and Resident Evil 4. Avatar looked way better than what I saw in cinema I am not sure if it had to do with the fact that it was 1080p but it looked good. Resident Evil besides being a pack of crap movie had good 3D scenes that seemed to want to point out at every possible moment "THIS SCENE RIGHT HERE IS IN 3D". For movies the monitor definitely works as a plus. Youtube in 3d am not so much I tried 5 random videos and got steadily worse headaches. Lets just say this is not the reason you should be buying this monitor. Cause youtube in 3D gives me eye cramps and splitting headaches. Some minor problems I noted from other users and are true but are not detrimental active glasses, ghosting and Glossy Screen. Active Glasses tend to make the image darker but i just turn of the lights in my room and image quality is good in my opinion. You also need to buy another pair if you havee friends who want to watch the screen. Ghosting in motorstorm this was apparent and kind of take away from the 3D effect however in other games its appearance was not as bad or non existent. Glossy Screen if you have a light source in your back ground it will reflect, I don't have any but it is apparent that if its there it may cause a problem. With that said I think this monitor was a great buy I mean the pros far out way the cons in my opinion. Even if it was not for the 3D the monitor is just great to have as an additional screen. ... show more
