Description

The 160GB PS3 in the Uncharted bundle only has two USB ports, is not backwards compatible with PS2 game disks, and does not have any flash-card support built-in. The 60GB and some 80GB models have four USB ports, play PS2 disks (the 60GB version actually has an emotion engine built in, the 80GB PS3 uses software to emulate the PS2), and a built in card reader for various formats of flash memory. Some may be upset that the premium PS3 package has less functionality than some of the previous, cheaper versions. As DVD playback made the PlayStation 2 more than just a game machine, hefty multi-media features make the Sony PlayStation 3 an even more versatile home entertainment machine. Features such as video chat, Internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video will likely make it the central component of your media set-up. Still, it is first and foremost a game console--and a powerful one at that.Under the Hood The PS3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That's approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI (High- Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience.Blu-Ray is the New Way Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity, combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card, promises mind- blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software update version 2.20 and up includes BD Live support. With this you can now play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) and you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format so that you can obtain additional features. Features that are available vary depending on the software in use.Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is included with this Sony PlayStation 3 bundle pack. The game begins with a 400-year-old clue found in the coffin of famed explorer, Sir Francis Drake. The clue sends modern-day fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, on a quest to find the fabled treasure of El Dorado, leading to the discovery of a long forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The expedition turns deadly when Drake's party becomes stranded on an island and hunted by modern day pirates. Outnumbered and outgunned, Nathan must fight to survive and unravel the terrible secrets of the mysterious island.Adventure, Mystery, and Exploration Abound Using maps and ancient artifacts you'll uncover clues and unravel mysteries that will reveal a forgotten island a lost treasure. This uncharted world is alive with intrigue and mystery, and you'll revel in the amazing graphics as you explore exotic locations and traverse through living jungles and 400-year-old ruins. Drake's not all on his own -- his companions and allies play an important role in the adventure through cooperative gameplay mechanics, gun play, and exploration.Action-Packed gameplay Your abilities will be tested, challenge after challenge, as you struggle to stay alive by any means necessary. Thrilling high-speed chases over land and water and terrifying gunfire will keep you on the edge of your seat. And if that's not enough, you'll need to employ an array of hand-to-hand combat moves to keep your enemies off balance with haymaker punches and running drop-kicks. Charming, exciting, and adventure-packed, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is an excellent addition to this Sony PlayStation 3 game console bundle. What's in the BoxGame system with 160 GB HD, Internet-ready built-in Wi-Fi, and 2 USB portsDualshock 3 wireless controllerUncharted: Drake's Fortune gameVoucher for downloadable PAIN gameFree PlayStation Network membership

  • PS3 160GB game console.
The PS3 160GB was a refurbished purchase. It was heavier than I expected & not in it's original factory box, but packaged very well, no shipping damage & arrived on schedule. The console came with no instructions, 1 gray & white camo controller & a brand new free, 'Uncharted, Drake's Fortune' game. The console had a few minor scratches on top, but hey, it's a used/refurbished product, NO big deal. The console & controller work like new. I'm pleased with this purchase & didn't expect 100% perfection. It works great, which is what I wanted. Thanks ... show more

  • Great all around entertainment device
The new PS3 slim is a much better value than my old PS3 fat 160gig, but I still feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of this bundle. I use it on a daily basis to stream netflix, I've ripped all my music onto it, and at the time it was one of the cheaper, and better quality, blu-ray players on the market. I would go with a lower memory unit though because it's cheaper just to upgrade the hard drive (it takes just about any lap top hard drive). It's also a reliable unit too. I bought this april of 2009 and haven't had any real issues with it since (there was an issue with the HDMI output but starting it in safe mode and restoring the settings fixed it). Between my girlfriend and I we own an N64, gamecube, wii, xbox arcade w/ 60 gig hard drive and the PS3 and they're all great. The big reason we use the PS3 more the the others combined is the multimedia versatility it has. This can be accomplished through other means though. If you really want to set up a heavy duty home entertainment set up I would just permanently righ a home computer to the tv and that will give you a more open platform to work. ... show more

  • it was a good buy but just a month after i bought it ...
it was a good buy but just a month after i bought it the PS3 got the yellow light of death so i dont know what to do now. Had the Yellow light of dead happened before to this particular unit. Also you should have stated that it was the fat PS3 and not the thinner one, maybe that was just a confusion of mine. Uncharted is a great game, thank you. Dont care for the basketball one. ... show more

  • This is a review for the System not the Game
I purchased this console back in November of 2010, In that time it has went on two deployments with me and moved around alot as far as moving. The only thing that I was disapointed about it was despite installing the backwards compatibility from PSN it wont work with past playstation games. I use it as my only blu-ray player and have never had problems with it as in some of the other reviews I have seen. I consider myself partial to playstation since it was my very first console, the original playstation. I have played nemourus time on the xbox and the 360 and will have to say despite enjoying gameplay I will never own a 360, for a few reaons for those who dont know for online gameplay on the 360 you have to pay an stupid monthly fee. PSN is free for all games, some game may require a special account to play on there servers but i have yet to hear of paying to play online for PSN, unless you a PlayStationPlus member as I am, which has its perks at only $49 a year, you get online storage of game data, and at the PlayStationStore you get discounted games and older games you can get for free. I have recently been on a Battlefield 3 benge and have had issues where the console will freeze in mid match, very fustrating, simple reboot the system and you fine. This problem seems to be limited to Battlefield 3 and happens rarely unless you spend hrs and hrs without taking a break. I would have not bought this system unless I hadnt given my first PS3 to my cousin back in 2009 which still works great by the way minus physical blemishes from being trasported to and from firends houses. To be clear I actually bought my current system from this retailer through Amazon and was well pleased by shpping and how it was packaged to protect it from typical shipping conditions. I HIGHLY recomend the older console over the new one! ... show more

  • First impression
I recently upgraded to HD with a Mitsubishi Diamand 52-inch TV and a Denon AVR 1910 receiver. I purchased the PS3 mainly for its Blu-ray capability. While I am awaiting my first NetFlix Blu-ray disc, I was very impressed with the PS3 upscaling DVD upscaling capability while watching Austin Powers Goldmember and Saving Private Ryan. The video quality is far better than my old standard def system, I believe the DTS 5.1 audio quality is also better. The Blu-ray remote control works fine. So, thus far, I agree with the many reviews that suggest PS3 to be a super option for Blu-ray capability. Completely new to gaming, I will explore that potential in coming weeks. After unpacking and connecting the system, I immediately followed the cue to the latest software update. The game "Pain" downloaded without trouble using the voucher code. The Playstation network registration worked fine. Just to share more with those who are interested, I am currently only using broadcast TV (1080i and 720p) with hi-def TiVo and Netflix (one movie at a time + Blu-ray for $10.99/month (can get up to two discs a week with this plan through the mail and unlimited streaming)). For me, this package of programming is robust and all I need. While I love playing sports, I'm not a big fan of watching them and don't find a need for the multiple sports channels offered by cable or satellite. Therefore, time-delaying broadcast news, serials and sitcoms, along with Blu-ray, DVD and streaming movies, and now Playstation gaming, seems to be the most high-quality and cost-effective programming bundle I can find. ... show more
