My 9, 8, and 6 year old love building stuff. This one is actually a bit more on the challenging side. The more challenging, the more rewarding when it’s done. The pieces came in two plastic sheets that you have to cut out. I did help them on trimming the edges where they couldn’t get a clean cut. But most of the assembly was done by themselves. The are a few different models you can build and the instructions can be confusing at first. Since jumping straight to the page with the model doesn’t tell you much on how to assemble it. What we discovered is that you’ll have to assemble the solar power module, motor and gear regardless of what model you want to build. And those were at the front few pages. Once the core parts are done, you can jump to the model you wish to build. Awesome toy for ALL ages. Young and old. I highly recommend this toy, you will not be disappointed! :) ... show more

Overall the product is well made. My 12 year old loved putting it together with my 6 year old. The bright outside color is eye catching and the product came with a book which shows how to transform into a variety of objects. We enjoyed the walking robot the most. This was a fun little project. I had my eight year old help me and it was easy enough for him but technical enough to require some thought in order to make it work. We liked the several variations that can be built to allow for creativity. It's a great gift for the little engineer in your home.

The media could not be loaded. We had a blast building this! I would say that the age recommendation should be closer to 10 years just because of the nature of the effort it requires to put everything together. You do need to take caution when putting it together because there are lots of small parts and delicate areas where pieces need to be placed precisely or the function of the robot as a whole is affected.
