The media could not be loaded. For new DJs or established DJs looking for a home-studio worthy DJ setup, this is it. If I had to describe in my own words what the XDJ RX is for those stuck between choosing a CDJ or your run of the mill DJ controller, this is for either a beginning DJ who has advanced beyond being a mere bedroom casual/hobbyist DJ to a full-blown professional DJ who wants a DJM900/2000Nexus quality system without the price-tag or complexity of that full setup. What you get with the XDJ-RX is basically an all-in-one controller console that acts as a full on digital DJ player. You have a high-resolution screen with a surrounding bezel that is somewhat similar to the 900/2000NXS Pioneer CDJs, with two digital platters that are similar in their construction to a 2000NXS and a two channel mixer downsized from the 4-channel CDJ. The color effects are also down two effects (Space and Jet), but the four essential color effects (Noise, Gate/Compression, Beat-Crush, and Lo/Hi Pass Filter) provide the fundamental basis for producing complex mixes that you of a professional level DJ. This also makes it a great set-preparation tool as I use it to prepare my sets, and to construct 'mixtapes' to be uploaded and shared with friends, DJs, and future club/lounge owners. The only differences between the XDJ-RX and its DJM900/CDJ2000NXS relatives are the platters and the design of the hot-cue functions. The hot-cue functions are actually convienient and aesthetically pleasing given their cool blue, with mode switches sitting right above them. They divide into hot-cue, auto-beat loop, loop slice, and shift. The platters on the XDJ-RX are noticeably smaller and utilize a touch-sensitive area to that mimics a vinyl record, which makes it rather pleasing for vinyl dj's who like to touch their music as they beatmatch. From this standpoint you will quickly noticed how sexy your interaction with the XDJ-RX is in comparison to the CDJ setups. Of course, the sexy and intimate character of the XDJ-RX is also makes it a strictly bedroom/home-studio device unlike CDJ's. You can mobile with this unit, but it is not suggested given that the XDJ's refined feel and interaction makes it more sensitive to being damaged - you will notice this by contrasting the touch-sensitive platters with the clunky weight/spring actuated platters of the CDJ/XDJ-1000s. Furthermore, the XDJ-RX is not light and is best at home sitting in your relatively-small 46" home studio workstation as opposed to being 'backpacked' around town to your nearest bar/lounge. Many on the internet have argued this is one of the disadvantages of this unit given that it still does not disincentives novice DJs from buying a controller as they upgrade from entry level gear. Furthermore, there are many who will assert that this unit is in an awkward place in Pioneer's lineup given that upon graduating from, say, a DDJ-SB1/2, one can either buy a DDJ-SR or spend the moolah to get the some-what larger but fairly mobile DDJ SZ/RZ. This is a further point of contention with mobile DJs given that all bars/lounges/clubs that advertise themselves as having dance-floors in google or Yelp are not dedicated enough to club life to justify the purchase of a DJM/CDJ setup where this unit would prove beneficial. While it is an arbitrary point that many bars, lounges, and some clubs allow mobile DJs to bring their own equipment, for a beginner DJ who is not invested in Traktor, Serato, or Virtual DJ, this unit will hands down prepare you to play in a serious club. If you aspire to play in clubs akin to Rumor in Philadelphia (where they use a DJM900/CDJ2000 setup), or a place like Club Space - Miami where the latest equipment is employed (no doubt a DJM900NXS2/CDJ2000NXS2), the XDJ-RX will make your learning curve more linear and far-less versus moving from a controller. In this manner, the XDJ-RX is an undeniable investment that negates the value of buying a controller unless one is doing a mobile gig where a controller is more ideal - a wedding or a work party. Of course, with the XDJ-RX sitting at home, there is little incentive to invest in anything more expensive beyond appearing 'professional'. With that said, this unit will provide dividends for more experienced working/professional DJs given that you have essentially all of the features of the late model DJM900NXS/CDJ2000NXS setup without the same footprint, cost, and headache of setting up. This unit lends itself to those who find space expensive - especially livign in the city - while also via rekordbox serving as a place to practice one's sets. Not only does the unit feature two USBs for for back to back playing, if one wanted to practice with a friend as par your B2B performance, or both as a way to practice potential sets for live-playing/mixtapes/soundcloud and as a means of recording said mixes for your listening before you mix the final product. I love this unit because so far it is the only unit I have needed given that my current opportunities to DJ are as a member of an Open Format DJ meetup The Philadelphia DJ Grou, which uses CDJ 900s. (Check us out on Facebook, Mixlr/Periscope on Thursdays from 5pm - 10pm EST, or join us on Meetup if you live in the area and come to 'The Saint Lazarus Bar' (Southwest corner of Girard and Front)). Because I am still fairly 'out of the bedrooom', this uni is perfect because it gives me a CDJ-level amount of preparation and skill-development from the comfort of my own home studio. Well I finally bought one lol. Haven't used the link function yet to connect to my laptop but I'll update this when I do. For now, I can say It's all positive beyond what was already stated about this device and rekordbox. I'll name those off as I remember them: 1. FLAC files. I had to move completely over to AIFF files because of Pioneers lack of adherence to the needs of the audiophile masses. Thought I had an issue with some "high res audio", but it seems to have sorted itself out. More on that later 2. Rekordbox & Rekordbox DJ. First off, I just bought a $1500 mixer.... Rekordbox DJ should have been a free bundle with this. Period. We have been forced into using this software because Pioneer wants to corner the hardware AND software market. This, oddly enough worked in my favor. I LOVE rekordbox now. I really wish I wouldn't have purchased Serato, because now I want to buy rekordbox dj. The music management software alone is sooooo awesome though. They even fixed a few things about Serato that I couldn't stand. Making iTunes playlists and managing ALL my music along with my dj files has never been easier with the playlist sync manager. As for the dj software, us dj's will put it to the test and see how they measure up ;) 3. A quote from another user saying he'll hold out until the next version when he see's "full size jogs w' torque adjust, needle search, updated tracking/position displays, and EFX send/return.". I agree with the EFX send return. The reason is, if you get external effects and the XDJ RX can record your music, you won't be recording those external effects along with it. This was a poor choice by pioneer. The other issues are non issues with me and even if they were, they don't even come into play because of the big problems which I will discuss next. 4. Search function..... where is it? No keyboard, no touchscreen..... so I have to what... thumb and fumble through tracks or search like texting on one of the first texting phones ever made? MAJOR concern here. But I knew this before I bought it. So no big shocker there, I just totally agree. 5. Track Info. When viewing a track you can click the info button to view more properties. I just leave it on really. I would have like to see FILE TYPE and AUDIO BITRATE instead of what date it was added!? Just in case some low quality tracks got thrown on there. It happens..... you don't want the club hearing a 128kbps mp3 do you? Of course I know better but it's still nice to see. 6. Autoloop. I use either 4 beats, 8 beats, 16 beats, or 32 beat autoloops for really difficult songs. This is a must have in my opinion. The pre-installed pads for autoloops go up to 8 beats...... which means I have to fork out more dough for the RMX1000 for a basic function or some other beat loop hardware. It really should have been included. Other than that, I LOVE this mixer. Alongside it's excellent features and groundbreaking technology that lays it's foundation alongside it's other flagship mixers that dominate the professional dj scene, this mixer doesn't forget to add connections for classic turntables for the old school guys like myself that like getting down on some VINYL!! I'm never buying another mixer. Even if they fix the things I just listed. I'm very happy with my purchase and since I no longer mix to try to tour the world djing club to club this will work just fine. I'm still finding out what this thing does lol. So much fun!! This is an incredible deck! Having gone from analog to now digital, and from CDs to MP3, over the years, this is light years ahead of what we used to have available. I cannot imagine ever going back to CDs, nor will it be likely in a few years that we could, but you don't need to worry with this deck. It is laid out great, substantial in size but manageable. Looks like a million bucks, and rocks! If I can just keep everyone else's hands off of it for gigs I will be set!

Cannot say enough good things about the XDJ-RX. I was hedging between this and a full XDJ-1000 + DJM-900NXS setup. Well boy am I glad I got this. It is rock solid, the buttons and platters feel great and it's super portable. I recently got to use a full XDJ-1000 setup and they feel like plasticy crap, this feels solid and reliable. Would recommend to anyone looking to make the change to Rekordbox and wants a home practice setup or a portable on for house parties and such. I never touched CDJ's before using this and the transition is seamless once you can use this proficiently.

Absolutely love this controller to death. Just to preface, I've been a paid DJ who creates mixes and does live sets. This is THE PERFECT piece of equipment to practice for CDJ usage at the club. I have access to a freidns CDJ's to practice on and let me tell you, there is literally no difference except for the feel... Same functionality, except In my opinion, the RX is better. More detailed display, identical navigating, portability. If it weren't for DJ standards, Id actually use this in the club. Highly recommend, you'll love very second of this bad boy!
