I originally bought this for general farm use, but it’s turned out to be really useful around the chicken coop. Instead of chasing birds around, I just use the board to guide them where I need. Chickens naturally move away from it, so everything stays calm and controlled without stressing them. It’s been especially helpful when collecting eggs. I can keep hens out of the nesting area while I gather them, which cuts down on broken eggs and makes the whole process quicker and a lot less messy. The size is just right, big enough to do the job, but still light and easy to handle. I’ve even had my son help out with it, and he’s able to manage it comfortably, which has been great for getting him involved in the daily work. It feels solid, easy to clean, and does exactly what you need it to do. Nothing complicated, just a practical tool that ends up being used more than expected. If you keep chickens, it’s definitely worth having.

Well made sorting board for our pigs. Our male pig hates my husband and attacks him. This board is huge and reasonably light weight enough for my husband to carry into the pig pen when necessary and remain safe.

This bord is great. It is so much easier to handle than the solid plastic ones we have been using. It is noticeably lighter than a solid bord, probably ½ the weight. The thicker curved handles make it much easier to grip and move. The bright color makes it easy to spot when you drop in in the field chasing your animals. It feels thick enough to last a long time, even though it is not solid, it is very rigid and should last for ever as a sorting bord. I wouldn’t trust it as a temporary wall very long though. The shaker paddle is a new idea to me. It rattles to make an audible deterrent for the animal. It may work great for simple herding into trailers and such. The cows definitely didn’t like the sound and reacted by going away from it. The goats, pigs, and turkeys didn’t seem to care at all about the noise. You wouldn’t be able to use it in any show I’ve been to so I wouldn’t recommend training animals with it. But it’s basically a free add on to the board. I definitely recommend this board, and I will be getting more of them.

The Herdmate Pig Sorting Board With Sorting Stick Paddle is a great, sturdy option for handling my pigs. The board is a sturdy moulded plastic with hand grips along both short sides and one of the long sides for ease of use no matter what direction it is facing. It is heavy enough to withstand and provide guidance to animals, but light enough to maneuver easily. The paddle rattles when shaken, which is useful when moving many types of animals, not only pigs. When not in use, the paddle conveniently clips into the board for storage and easy access.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased this large pig sorting board with the rattle paddle primarily to help when assisting with stray pig captures, and I’m really impressed with the quality and usefulness. The plastic is thick and sturdy, it doesn’t feel flimsy at all and the built in handles make it easy to grip and maneuver. The size is excellent for creating a solid visual barrier. That said, it is fairly large, so someone with a smaller frame might find it a bit cumbersome at first. For me, the size is actually a benefit because it provides better coverage and control. The sorting paddle is a fantastic addition. It fits very securely into its holder and definitely won’t fall out on its own, which I appreciate. However, because it’s held in so tightly, it can take a bit of effort to pull it out and snap it back into place especially if you don’t have a lot of upper body strength. That’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it’s something to be aware of. The rattle noise in the paddle is loud enough to grab a pig’s attention without being overwhelming, and best of all, you don’t have to touch the animal to guide them. That’s especially important when working with nervous or stray pigs. I help out locally with a pig rescue, and this will absolutely come in handy for preventing pigs from wandering toward roads and for guiding them safely into a crate. At home, I have two older pot belly pigs who are even-tempered and come when called, so I don’t necessarily need this tool for them but it gives me peace of mind to have it. I also used to own goats, and this would have been perfect when they tried to ram with their horns. It provides a safe buffer between you and the animal. Although this review is for the large size, they also offer smaller sizes for other animals like roosters and chickens. I used to have a rooster who was not the friendliest, and honestly, having a solid buffer like this back then would have been incredibly helpful. I think this is a great value for the money and a must have tool for anyone working with pigs, goats, naughty roosters or other livestock. Highly recommend!

This is ideal for practicing "Move the Pig" techniques with our mini pigs. The board has handles on two sides so it can be held either tall ways or long ways which is a really helpful option. It's light enough to maneuver easily and heavy duty! We took the rattling paddle off since the sound part was unnecessary for us and it was honestly driving me a bit crazy, but it is a great tool to have if that's something you need! We liked the first board we bought so much that we bought a second just in case we need to try to maneuver any of our pigs into a vehicle/up a ramp at some point and can keep them safe and blocked on both sides. Would definitely recommend this sorting board to anyone working on "Move The Pig" or needing any reason to gently scoot their farm friends around!
