Earlier this year, my old Sonicare Diamond Clean toothbrush died on me, and I hopped on line to look for a replacement. I think I had picked up the old one at a Target when the original one died, and my goodness... How the world has changed since then! There's an app, a gazillion different models, and it is tough to decipher what you need or want and the least expensive model that provides all these things. After going around in circles, I finally settled on this model. Let me count the reasons why... 1. No app - I can't even figure out if the models that use the app can be used without it, so why pay so much extra for a can't feature that I may use a handful of times just to see if it even provides any useful data? 2. Comes with the option to buy a travel case. It isn't as nice as the one from my old diamond clean, but it will suffice and allow me to charge the toothbrush if needed when I'm away from home. 3. A mode that provides more than exactly 2 minutes of brushing time. If I spend 2 minutes on the outward and inward facing parts of my teeth, I need a bit more time for the chewing surfaces of my molars. And if two minutes is about right... Well... It's awfully annoying when it sits off as you are getting to that last tooth... 4. Pressure sensor. I thought this would be a useful feature, so it figured into my decision to pick this model. Turns out you need an awful lot of pressure to set it off and my hygienist informed me that I don't brush too hard so I guess I resolved that issue years ago. With that said, perhaps I could have saved money on a different model. Other than that, I like the purple color and the reminder to change my toothbrush head. I miss the glass charger from my old diamond clean. I ended up just using the old glass to store my toothbrush between charging. They are not compatible. I'm also not sure I'm using the optimal toothbrush head... The ones with the w on them are available at Costco, so I like to use them to save money. It seems to work okay, but sometimes I check closely and think I'm missing plaque just above my gum line - not sure if my technique is off or if a different brush might help. I struggle whether I should rate this with a 4 or 5... I wish I could score with decimals for a 4.75. So I rounded up. ... show more

I have been a Sonicare toothbrush user for many years now. I became sold after going from manual toothbrushes years ago to Sonicare and noticing a big improvement in my tooth and gum health. This toothbrush works as well as any other Sonicare as I don’t need all the extra bells and whistles of the more expensive version. I just need a brush that cleans and does the job and this does that just fine. So, why four stars instead of five. One, I think these are too expensive and should be expensive and secondly, I really hate when companies make items where you can’t change the batteries in these and you basically have to throw them away after a fixed number of charges. Sonicare isn’t the only one that is guilty of this. Norelco, I am looking at you as well. The toothbrushes can last a long time, but the batteries do not. Start making these where you create less e-waste and allow a way to change batteries. As far as making the battery last longer, I suggest do not charge until the battery indicates it is low, which is usually around 2 weeks of use (depending on your daily frequency of brushing. You will probably get 500 charges and if you do that you can extend the life of the toothbrush. Overall, a good toothbrush, with the lack of ability to change the battery and the price keeping this from being a perfect brush. 4 stars ... show more

For almost all of my life, the dentist has always given me the beat-down about taking better care of my teeth. 7 years ago I bought one of these and started flossing daily and no kidding, every dentist visit is now "great job" or "looking good." The battery on the one I'm replacing lasted about 5 years - so when you amoritize the cost over that many years WITH the positive comments from the dentist, they don't seem so expensive. The no-name replacement heads sold on Amazon seem to work fine - no need to buy the more expensive Phillips brand. ... show more

I bought this over a year ago. Had to come back and praise it here because the battery life is unreal. I travel full time and never have the charging base. It's only hit a low battery level once, and I pretty much only charge it once every couple months. I use the lowest setting the "gum protection" level, and brush my teeth twice a day. Huge fan.
