I had one of the older hue light strips someone gave me to, but decided to get this to put behind my music stuff on my desk (though behind a monitor would work great if the monitor is up towards a wall so the light can really reflect, my monitor isn’t close enough so it’d be a little dull). The older strip I have lines the underside of my desk, and is cool, but can’t do any gradients, so this is pretty slick. A bit pricey considering the length but you can customize it with 3 different colors (you can select 3 on the color wheel, but the gradient effect can make it seem like more, as it fills in the gaps between what you select, so if you have red and blue selected on one end, various violets and purples fill in between). You can also move around the distance between each of the 3 selected colors to get some really cool patterns; if you’ve ever messed with gradient colors on text in like a photo editor or something, same idea. It’s decently bright, and I think plenty bendy though I didn’t use the included shaper things, to bend around a monitor, but they seem like they’d work fine. All in all, I am happy with the results! The only real drawback I think is price compared to the length you get, but, hue stuff has been super reliable for me over the years so I’ve decided to stick with them and haven’t yet had a bad experience. ... show more

I got these to use on my monitor downstairs where I work from home. I have the larger set from Phillips for my TV and thought that it would be super neat to have them on my monitor as well. I found them very easy to set up as well as apply to the back of my machine. The lights correspond well with what’s on my screen and really seem to expand my viewing area. I have few cheaper light-strips and got this one to see if the more expensive Philips Light-strips really make a difference. These are well made and you can tell this from the looks alone. The monitor mounts are also well thought of and easily mount the strips. You need the hub to sync these but if you installed the sync app on your PC/laptop then it will also sync the display with the light-strips. Very useful indeed. ... show more

I love Hue lighting products. I just refuse to pay the money they cost any longer. I've disconnected my Hue hub and pulled my Hue lights in favor of more-reasonably priced alternatives in the smart light arena (Sengled, Wemo, Lutron, etc.). But this lightstrip for PC/Mac monitors is unique in its category. Govee makes a cheaper, less-polished competitor, but it relies on a camera monitoring screen colors, introducing lag and requiring more setup. You may be aware of Hue's backlighting for TV sets. The lighting strips Hue sells for TV usage require a $240-250 Hue Sync Box in addition to the pricey lights strips. The Sync Box is required to determine the colors being displayed on the screen. With this set, Hue is able to rely on software you must install on your PC (available for both Windows and Mac) to gauge colors and set appropriate background hues. This set is called "gradient" because it has the ability to display a variety of hues and colors at the same time, unlike some competitors that only surround your monitor with one hue/color at a time. The primary audience for this kind of lighting is: 1) Those with money burning a hole in their pockets who want a cool, attractive backlight for their monitor 2) Video gamers who want something more than a dark room to play in (certainly the biggest market) 3) Graphic designers--it's a great addition to Lightroom The one thing to note about these light strips is that Netflix and other streaming platforms use DRM to keep their video streams from being intercepted and copied on the way to the monitor, thus these lights won't work at all with streaming video. Comes with adhesive-attached guides for placing the light strips on the back of your monitor. The strips are easy to install, as is the software. Finally, you must use this in conjunction with a Hue hub.     • A definite upgrade from the older Hue Lightstrips

I was looking for a nice way to add some new ambiance to my office, and this definitely fits the bill. I have some earlier generation light strips from Hue (general, not Hue Play), so I already have a Hue bridge (V2) and my system set up. So, from an existing users perspective, adding this strip into the system was very easy. Compared to the earlier light strips I've used, these are absolutely a step up in quality and worth it for the office ambiance. Beyond the features of being able to connect to the content onscreen and having three color options at a time, they also feel much more premium. While that feel is an overall great thing (they aren't just thin little strips, they are more like ropes), it can make install a little more challenging - bending to fit the desired curve can take a few tries (I'm nit-picking, obviously, as I still give it a 5-star rating). Overall, if you're looking for some ambiance behind your screens and you have the Hue bridge, this is a great product! ... show more
