  • Excellent landscape lighting system - easy to install!
Style: Power 100W
I bought these Philips Hue lights for my front yard since it’s very small (I only need 4 lights) and I wanted to do it myself (so it had to be easy). This product fit the bill perfectly! It was very easy to install - no need to add a transformer since it’s already included in this power supply. In addition to the power supply, I bought one Calla outdoor pathway light, three Lily XL outdoor spotlights, three cable extensions, and a Hue bridge. I am very pleased with the results. I was concerned that the light cast from the Lily XL spotlights would be too wide (I wanted to regular spotlights but they were sold out) but I find that these spotlights cast a lovely soft glow into a large tree and softly frame my front windows to accent the architecture of my home. I have an Echo Dot which can be used in lieu of the Hue bridge but opted to buy the bridge instead since I do not use my Echo Dot all the time. Set up was very simple. I downloaded the app and it’s easy to change light colors and routines. These lights are a little expensive compared to other landscape lighting options but Philips Hue landscape lighting was a better option for me since I didn’t need that many lights. If I had a large yard and needed more lights or knew I’d never want to change the light colors, it might make more sense for me to get other landscape lights. But this was a perfect option for me! It’s rained several times since I installed these lights and it’s been below freezing at night. No issues so far. ... show more

  • The new version is more sensitive than the old model
Style: Motion Sensor
I have three of the older model HUE motion detectors. The older model has a screw in each corner of the back of the unit. This is what holds the rear cover on. This new model has one screw in the center of the back. The new model is a big improvement. I bought this new sensor to work in a zone with one of my existing sensors. But because this new sensor has such a better range, I don't need the older one. I guess I'll keep it as a spare. The older model has a range of about 20 ft from the sides and 30 ft head on. This new model is about 30 ft on the sides and about 60 ft head on. I use Hubitat for home automation. All of my sensors connect directly to the Hubitat hub. You don't need the Hue hub for these sensors. I do have a Hue hub and the only thing I use it for is the one remaining Hue bulb that I have. One last thing on batteries, don't use rechargeable batteries. It states that in the manual. I have noticed that the range of these Hue sensors drops when the battery voltages gets down to about 1.4v. New, AA batteries are about 1.55v. I generally get about a year out of my batteries before I have to replace them. Getting the rear cover off can be tricky. This year I put silicone grease on the rubber seal. Hopefully that will make the covers easier to get off in the future. ... show more

  • Works well.
Style: Motion Sensor
Functionally I really like these sensors. The the batteries last a few years, they work as intended and have a nice appearance, unless you have one in Arizona for a few years. The one in the picture is 5 or 6 years old, but as you can see, the dome is disintegrating. It is installed under the eaves of the house where it is never exposed to direct sunlight. Perhaps it's just from the Arizona heat, or maybe reflected UV radiation from the sidewalk, or maybe just age. Whatever the case, I'm rather disappointed in the poor quality of the dome. Clearly, with the exposed components, total failure is imminent. I guess that I need to accept that these are disposable and I will have to replace the entire unit whenever I need to change the batteries. I have two other units suffering from the same issue, so now I begin to think I need to try other brands. ... show more

  • Excellent product-good security
Style: Motion Sensor
I use this to control my outside Hue lights. With this device it is simple to have the lights turn on when it detects movement. The app allows me to set very detailed areas that it will detect movement, time lights will remain on, and action on/off times. Truly an excellent product. No complaints. Recommended! ... show more

  • NOT made to last outdoors! Poor quality cord!
Style: Power 100W
We have a large property and were seeking up-lighting to display the beauty of the trees and the home. We had a cheaper system made by Hampton Bay that lasted three years and that was through rough winters. We decided to “upgrade” to the Hue system and have been nothing but disappointed. My husband spent hours researching and installing the system ensuring everything was properly connected. It worked only for a few weeks before this power supply stopped working because of breaks and kinks in the wire. Shortly there after one of the spotlights stopped working completely out of the blue. It is a very soft malleable wire that seems to break easily. These have only been in since June & we have had nothing but trouble. This brand was touted as very high grade and I would not even call it up to snuff for residential use. I really feel disappointed and insulted that no one has contacted me from the company to try to make things right. I’ve had cheaper systems with better customer service and frankly much better products. Very disappointed overall and hope that someone will help us out with this and we warn others so they don’t waste their hard earned money in this tough economy. Shame on Phillips for selling sub-par equipment. I like to support USA companies, but this is really not acceptable. These products are not made to withstand the elements at all from my experience so far. I look forward to hearing from HUE about my situation. They have made it very difficult to rectify the situation and customer service is a huge portion of what creates customer loyalty. ... show more
