Philips Avent Natural Response baby bottle nipple lets babies control the pace of the milk, like they do when breastfeeding. The nipple's unique opening and tip only release milk when your baby actively drinks. When pausing to swallow and breathe no milk flows. Baby can drink, swallow, and breathe using their natural rhythm. Easily combine breast and bottle feeding with a wide breast- shaped nipple that mimics the soft feel of a breast. The nipple has a no-drip design which helps prevent lost milk from the tip. An anti-colic valve integrated into the nipple is designed to reduce colic and discomfort by sending air away from your baby's tummy. Every baby feeds differently and develops at their own pace. We’ve designed a range of flow rates so you can find the perfect one for your baby and personalize your bottle. We are transitioning to a pace-based flow navigation system. The Natural Response nipples come in flow rates 1-5, to keep up with your baby's development. Start with the nipple that comes with the bottle. I bottle fed my baby from birth and he’s always used these nipples except when he was at the hospital. I recently moved up to the level 3. Baby is just hitting 4 months. It took a couple days for him to get used to, but he is drinking so much more that it made sense. Generally these Philips avent nips and bottles seem to do very well and he doesn’t have an abundance of gas or burps. The larger bottles come with size 3 nipples anyway. Pro tip, splurge for the glass version of the bottles that go with these if you’re planning on having more kids. Then you can keep the bottles and just replace the nipples. ... show more

Switched to these with my last kid and am using again. Love these so much better than the older style of avent nipple. The bottle doesn’t leak milk when you turn it over. I can lie the baby down on her side with the bottle and she only gets milk if she sucks just like the breast. I read reviews that people didn’t like this feature because it took so long for the baby to finish but I felt it was more natural and less milk wasted. Baby takes her time to eat which every lactation consultant has told me it should take around 15 minutes to feed from the bottle. ... show more

    • No-drip is my favorite feature. Confusing/inconsistent flow rating system

I recently wrote a review for the Philips Avent Natural bottles. For many reasons. this has become my favorite bottle system. My baby is very comfortable with these nipples, though I delayed using these until he was 8 weeks old because he had a lot of problems with gas and colic as a newborn, so I used the Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottles instead. After reading more about these Natural bottles, I learned that they have an "anti-colic valve" in the nipple, which is just the little vent hole that the air escapes through. You can hear and see the air (bubbles) moving every time the baby sucks. Do I really think it's as effective as the designated anti-colic bottle? Probably not. I do think my baby swallows significantly more air with these, which I believe has caused trapped air bubbles, which have resulted in a couple incidents of projectile vomiting since switching to these bottles. But we are just more likely to give him a good burp mid-feed. Other than that, he hasn't been noticeably more gassy. These natural flow nipples are definitely my favorite aspect of the Natural bottles. They are no-drip nipples, so they don't flow unless the baby is sucking. This eliminates the need for paced bottle feeding, and you can feed the baby in more positions (but unlike the Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottles, these are not the best for upright feeding, because the nipple will not fill with milk/formula when you get down to the last ounce or so). Baby needs to be reclined to get every last drop. Otherwise, I am a fan of all that, since paced feeding is extra work and my baby would sometimes choke on MAM and Dr. Brown's bottles regardless of the nipple flow. Now I can't stress this enough. Double check what flow level you should be using with Natural Flow nipples based on your baby's age. Follow their cues, of course, to determine if you need to go up or down a flow level, but just be aware that Philips has a totally different flow rating scale between their different bottle systems. This is a major gripe of mine because it did cause me a week of frustration where my baby was not eating well when I transitioned to these bottles, and it took me way too long to figure out that the nipple flow level was the issue. Well, my baby was 9 weeks at the time and using a #2 Natural Flow nipple. I was coming from Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottles, where flow 2 nipples = 1m+. Well apparently, Natural Flow nipple #2 is only 0m+, so my baby was working way too hard to eat and getting tired/fussy at the bottle before even eating 2 oz. I have since upgraded him to the flow 3 nipples which are suitable for 1m+, and he is eating normally now. Overall very pleased with my baby's feeding experience since switching to these exclusively, but deducting one star for more air and confusing/inconsistent flow rating scale. ... show more

Purchased bottles and assorted nipples for parents of a newborn. Then ordered additional nipples of the smallest size available. Easy to clean, fits well in baby's mouth and newborn did well. Bottles are being used to store pumped breast milk and may be used for supplemental formula at some point. I cannot assess "suction power" except to say the new mom is happy as is her baby. The mom said lowest flow nipples are working best for her newborn, so I ordered and received additional nipples in that one size.
