  • SMALL ADZE - Great Performance
This is an excellent quality tool, just like all the other PFEIL "Swiss Made" tools I own and use. My old adze is well over 100 years old and been used almost to death, I thought I better get a replacement, so I ordered this. I just finished carving out a dough bowl wit this tool. It performed exactly like it's supposed to. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone who needs a good quality adze. ... show more

  • Disappointed.
I could not have been more disappointed in this product. Expected to receive a ready to use Adze and it was anything but ready. Both the outside and inside finish had deep horizontal grinding marks. I can't believe that any quality control even looked at this tool. The marks were so obvious. As far as the edge finishing on the inside, it would even cut my finger. It took me hours to remove the grinding marks and then 5 different grits of sandpaper to finally get the edge ready to polish. After spending most of my Saturday reworking the edge, I didn't get to use the adze much on Sunday, but it seemed to loose its edge. I will give it another working, but the steel may not be tempered properly. If it continues to preform poorly, it is going to be returned. ... show more

  • A lil disappointed
It came dull.. I'll have to put a sharp edge on it before I use it a lil disappointed

  • could work but has soooo many caveats
I got this at a shop I had a gift card I really wanted to get rid of and an adze was on my list and this was on clearance (I no longer live within 2 hours of that chain and moving cross country makes you get a little bit of the "clutter ptsd" omg). As people said, this thing is not remotely sharp out of the box. Pfeil does a mediocre job in general but it's nice to have some sharpness to start with. It's DULL. The handle is very cheaply made ash--lots of small bits of tearout that will give you blisters if you dont sand them off. The "wedge" used to connect handle to head is some ridiculous, cheapcrap circular bit of metal machine punched roughly in the middle. Does the job, sort of, but I have no idea HOW TO REMOVE IT WITHOUT DESTROYING THE HANDLE. So in summary, this is mass produced mediocrity priced higher than a lot of really amazing hand forged adzes out there. I've opted to keep mine in part because of the sale and gift card, but I also like the owner a lot and I have put in 4 hours tuning up the edge so once I make a new handle it'll be fine. For other folks, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Pfeil is a very decent handtool maker. But an adze is more akin to a smithy product and you should go straight to the source or find a used one instead. Amazon has a lot of decent ones listed but I'd be very dubious of any selling for under $50-80 probably really garbage steel. ... show more

  • I review from using it
This curved Adze is well balanced, and effective. this is from use not a hear say or factory visit , hope this helps

  • not a curve cut
It does not curves as it is reported to do so. Bevel is cut on the wrong side for a curve cut.

  • A recent factory visit suggests NO!
I have just visited the Pfeil factory in Switzerland. My impression is that their tools are not well finished. The handles in particular seem poorly made. Specifically in relation to this item, the example on show had a wavily ground cutting edge. Comments on several of the carving sites suggest poor quality control of their hardening process, with batches of 'soft' gouges finding their way on to the market. I personally will steer clear of the Pfeil brand based in my observations. ... show more
