  • INCREDIBLE FUN FOR CATSSS - But Use it Correctly, In The Right Environment For Better Effects - ITEM EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED!
Style: Bolt
We Love this thing! The first thing I noticed about it was it's patterns are pretty predictable BUT only in a linear situation like putting it on a large floor area and letting it go. It seems ideal but really the best way to use this is to put it in a smaller room with a lot of things the laser can bounce off of (ride over). As it moves about the room it 'rides' the surface area of whatever is in it's way (which can lead to some cool light stretching/dot streatching/morphing effects with the light seen best in a dark room), this changes the very dynamic of how it looks in different rooms. You can also get a couple of these (especially if you have more than 1 cat) and have them creating chaotic dots to follow or to choose. As for the complaints that it's static and redundant/predictable, changing the angle of where it's sitting, adding obstacles especially those that reflect (semi reflecting is best), and just be creative with the physics of how the light travels and you'll find this is one cool toy (even the adults are mesmerized by it if you set the room up right). I like to hold it and watch it travel and adjust course (to keep it dynamic for the cat even a twitch in any direction changes it's flow). Overall this is a well built toy, even turns itself off in 15 minutes (I think going too long the cat loses the curiosity of it so I leave it off and when she bugs me to turn it back on (and she does) I do. I change things in the lights potential path so she doesn't catch on that it's redundant. I thought my cat would attack the unit but she just didn't- she looked at it for a few micro-seconds then the light darted her attention. It works very well in low lit rooms, dark rooms, and even daylight to some degree but darker is better especially if you cannot see all the things the light is traveling over (creating distortions like the Enterprise going into Warp! ...is what it looks like). The light is a bright dot about 10x the size of a normal dot I think, but the dot is so bright (and even has an 'aura' around it ) that it morphs over things in the room it passes over. If you turn off the lights you can see a whole different perspective, but cats will dart into anything so make sure everything is safe :). We found our staircase (townhouse standard straight staircase with deep vaulted ceiling; lots of wall area and the beige stairs light up nicely- it's an incredible effect in a staircase hallway although part of it pushes the dot way beyond the cats jumping reach but that's when they stare and build up anticipation. I used it to get her to play with the cat tunnel toy too that I bought with this, and anxiety (the toy crackled like grocery bags so it scared her) disappeared. All in all it is what you think it is but use your head and don't just throw it in a large floor space or you may think it's stupid and ridiculous (I saw a video on YouTube of someone doing this and feared this was going to suck but it CERTAINLY DOESN'T! (My cat is right now nudging me to turn it back on as I write this). If you have a cat or several this is an amazing toy. After reading reviews I thought it would be great but that it would be nothing like the commercial or box described it but I find in the right room (not too big or if big with lots of things for the 'light' to 'ride' makes for human and cat entertainment. I don't recommend just a large floor, it just gets old fast. ... show more

  • The best cat "toy" I've bought
Style: Bolt
We have 5 indoor-only cats and this is the best cat toy we have purchased. The cats actually come to us when the unit turns off as if to say, "Hey, turn that thing back on. We're not done playing!" They love it and get excited when they think we may turn it on for them. Talk about easy too; all we have to do is push a button. Years ago, I would use a regular pen light and had to work to make the thing dash around the room. This toy does this for me and my cats are being entertained and EXERSISED while I am getting other things done around the house. Our cats are young (the oldest is around 4 years old) and into anything that moves. One thing I wish all reviewers of cat toys would mention is if their cat(s) are de-clawed because this makes a big difference in how active they are or possibly aren't. From past experience I realize most de-clawed cats lose their "hunter" instincts and usually aren't interested in most toys. Our cats are not de-clawed and thus are very active and love to hunt things. A bug that makes it into our home has no chance at all. So, if you have a lazy, older, and/or de-clawed cat, this toy may not be appreciated by them. As another reviewer stated, it would be nice to have this unit with an optional time setting of more than 15 minutes. I barely get started on something downstairs and my cats are coming to get me because the unit has turned off and they want me to turn it on again. :- It is amazing how quickly they learned I am an integral part of their toy's operation. :-) We have this sitting on a short table and it points outward onto an open area of the room. One reviewer stated when her unit arrived it wouldn't work; the light kept freezing. When she called the company, the sales rep told her to tap the bottom of the unit and it would begin working again. This same thing happened to me and I did as the rep told the other woman. After two times of the unit sticking in place and my tapping it, I have had no further problems. The batteries have lasted quite some time. I plan to buy some rechargables not only to save money but for conservation reasons as well. The day this unit dies, I will immediately buy another. It is a very inexpensive toy compared to so many others I have seen and unfortunately, spent money on. :- Good luck to all of you and your furry babies. Thanks for giving them a good life which it is apparent you do or else you wouldn't be shopping for cat toys. :- The greatness of a nation can be seen by how its animals are treated. ~Ghandi ... show more

  • Great concept, imperfect application
Style: Dancing Dot
I bought this for our 2 cats who are OBSESSED with the red laser dot. Any time I even touch the drawer where the laser is kept, I have cats practically suffocating me to try and get into it. So, to find a less dramatic way of keeping them entertained, I turned to Amazon and found this product. It seemed like a perfect solution: hit the switch, watch them have fun, and 10 minutes or so later it would turn off. There are 2 issues with this: 1. Unless you have a high enough perch for it, this laser doesn’t have a very wide range. About 7’ seemed about right for decent coverage. And that perch had better be stable, because this thing falls over quite easily due to the pivoting laser pointer inside. Mine fell more than once until I found a good spot. 2. This laser moved fairly quickly, and there is no way to adjust the speed it seems. Our cats loved watching it, but it wasn’t ever in one spot long enough for them to actually chase it. Perhaps our cats are a tad lazy, but it’s something to be aware of. A final comment: The laser itself is bright, and the case seems sturdy. If you feel the above quirks aren’t problematic, I would say this is a good purchase. ... show more

  • Possibilities
Style: Dancing Dot
I bought this to get some night time laser dot play for my cat at night when humans are sleeping. Didn’t work out like I imagined. A couple of things proved to be barriers for my particular cat : 1) motor is noticeably noisy - my cats just stared at the toy and totally ignored the laser dot; 2) the trajectory of the dot is entirely predictable so it lacks the chaotic motion of the usual play they receive. It’s a lot to ask of a toy but I just want to share my experience. ... show more
