My only concern is that I do not know how long this will last. I bought 2 last year for feral cats that we feed. One had to be replaced within a few months. I hope they last more than a season. They have a removeable washable cover that is water resistant. They do not get very hot, but it must be enough to warm their tummies as I put these in travel crates and covered the air holes with heavy rugs and towels to keep the wind and cold out. The crates are also in a protected area on our back porch near an electrical outlet. We don't get very cold most of the time, but when we did, both cats climbed into the crates. ... show more

We bought this for our outdoor cat inside a pet house. It kept her warm through a very cold winter this past year. It works great - warms up when she lays on it and turns off when she's not. The cover is not easy to clean though - got lots of cat fur embedded into it that did not come off after washing. The winters here in Maryland aren’t as bad as they are in other places, but it does frequently get down into the teens around here. I wanted to provide some relief to our 8 feral cats/kittens this year, and this heated pad seems to really do the trick. I bought this pad to put in a 15”x25” plastic storage bin located on our deck, situated partially under the picnic table and protected on the other side somewhat by the house. I put a honeycomb rubber mat between the heating pad and the wooden deck to keep the pad out of the water and provide a little insulation. The electric outlet is only a couple of feet away, so this location seemed pretty much perfect. This pad was almost as large as the box, and I couldn’t find one that fit better. The cats and kittens initially looked into the box, then they took a few steps into it with half the body still hanging out. It only took a day or so before they were going in and lying on the pad. It wasn’t uncommon for three or four of them to squeeze into the box, especially at night. The pad worked great, aided, of course, by the body heat of their brothers and sisters. Interestingly, Mom usually stayed alongside the box and wouldn’t go in. Maybe to protect her kittens? I think so. I ended up buying a much larger 17”x41” storage container (90 gallons, I think). This box is large enough for all 8 of them, including Mom who now goes in the box too. The heating pad is now in the far end of the box with roughly 1/3 of the box floor unheated. I’m planning to buy a larger pad if I can find one. I periodically reach in to feel the heating pad cover to make sure it’s not getting wet. I have washed and dried the cover twice now since my purchase. The cover appears to be holding up well. No signs of cat chewing. Similarly, nobody seems to be interested in chewing on the “armored” power cord either. Although the electronic control is supposed to only energize the pad when there is some specific amount of weight on it, the pad appears to be warm all of the time. It’s only 40 watts (I think), so I’m not concerned, but the control may not be working exactly as designed. That might be my only criticism. I have two cats, one of which is a senior girl, and my oldest has a cat as well. On colder days they all wanted the smaller heated mat which isn't big enough for the curmudgeonly old girl and another so I bought this one. It has helped them so much! If one mat is occupied the boy cats don't mind sharing the other. The power cord is long enough that I'm able to place the mat just about anywhere and still reach an outlet (assuming outlets are spaced within max distance stated in bldg code requirements). Now I feel less guilty about turning down the heat when I leave the house because I know they have a way to warm themselves on colder days if that's their preference. ... show more

This product is made beautifully. The cord is long enough and wrapped in metal to protect it. My cats no longer look so miserable. I have a cathouse we made they refuse to use. This mat is doing a good job. The one thing is it only has the one setting but seems my cats are okay with it. Plug in, no adjustment with a two prong plug. It just warms. I have to turn it off during the day I guess it gets to warm for them. I ordered a smaller one for a stray who won't share anything. I'm very pleased to see someone still makes quality. ... show more

I purchased this product for use in a homemade cat house. My grandson constructed two shelters for feral cats from large plastic totes containing smaller styrofoam cooler inserts fitted with a padded, dome-shaped kitty house. I placed the heating pad inside the padded kitty house. The entrance to that was lined up with the entrance he had cut in the tote. I made a door from a heavy upholstery remnant. All this detail was necessary so that I could vouch for the heating pad and say that it kept the area comfortable. Not hot, but comfortable. I could feel warmth when I put my hand inside the shelter to test it. We live in New England. The shelters were placed on my open porch and overhead protection was all they received from the winter weather. I first purchased this item two years ago. It has been in continuous use since that time except when I unplugged it during the summer. It is still working but I purchased it again this fall to have on hand if needed to keep the heat on for the kitties. It is a great product. This is a great heating pad that I bought for an outdoor kitty that has adopted me. It warms up nicely when the cat lays on it. It’s slightly warm after plugging in so it attracts the cat when it’s cold outside. I have it inside a cat house and it works wonderfully.
