The winters here in Maryland aren’t as bad as they are in other places, but it does frequently get down into the teens around here. I wanted to provide some relief to our 8 feral cats/kittens this year, and this heated pad seems to really do the trick. I bought this pad to put in a 15”x25” plastic storage bin located on our deck, situated partially under the picnic table and protected on the other side somewhat by the house. I put a honeycomb rubber mat between the heating pad and the wooden deck to keep the pad out of the water and provide a little insulation. The electric outlet is only a couple of feet away, so this location seemed pretty much perfect. This pad was almost as large as the box, and I couldn’t find one that fit better. The cats and kittens initially looked into the box, then they took a few steps into it with half the body still hanging out. It only took a day or so before they were going in and lying on the pad. It wasn’t uncommon for three or four of them to squeeze into the box, especially at night. The pad worked great, aided, of course, by the body heat of their brothers and sisters. Interestingly, Mom usually stayed alongside the box and wouldn’t go in. Maybe to protect her kittens? I think so. I ended up buying a much larger 17”x41” storage container (90 gallons, I think). This box is large enough for all 8 of them, including Mom who now goes in the box too. The heating pad is now in the far end of the box with roughly 1/3 of the box floor unheated. I’m planning to buy a larger pad if I can find one. I periodically reach in to feel the heating pad cover to make sure it’s not getting wet. I have washed and dried the cover twice now since my purchase. The cover appears to be holding up well. No signs of cat chewing. Similarly, nobody seems to be interested in chewing on the “armored” power cord either. Although the electronic control is supposed to only energize the pad when there is some specific amount of weight on it, the pad appears to be warm all of the time. It’s only 40 watts (I think), so I’m not concerned, but the control may not be working exactly as designed. That might be my only criticism. I don't normally give reviews, but I felt like I had to do this one because my cat LOVES this mat! He is 18yrs old and he is an outdoor cat. I've enclosed my front porch with canvas panels and there are straw bales for him, but he loves to lay on this mat. It puts out much more heat than I thought it would. So much so that when my cat gets to warm, he goes over to the straw bale that doesn't have the heated pad and then back again. I bought a 2nd one for his cat igloo that also has straw inside. UPDATE after several weeks of use: My rescued dog ended up disliking how warm the heating pad got, and eventually stopped sleeping in her dog house until I fully removed the heating pad. That was a bummer. But I guess her thick, Labrador-like fur was enough on cold nights outdoors and she didn't want the "excessive" heat from the pad. I wish I could've found a pad that was less warm. However, I brought it indoors, put a blanket over it, and my cat instead would HAPPILY bask on it. Initial review: It's working great after I just installed it on a below-freezing winter night for my rescued stray dog! More details: I bought this after recently rescuing a dog who has never lived indoors. Her preferred shelter is a dog house with a comforter stuffed inside. But I worry about her on winter nights like tonight, where temps drop below freezing. The comforter and plastic dog house just don't seem like enough. So I put this heating pad in her house tonight, and she is LOVING IT!!! First, I did test it instead: I plugged it in and put my cold feet on it. Within a couple minutes, I felt a solid but not overwhelming heat beginning to warm up my feet. So then I took it out to her dog house. On previous cold nights, my rescue dog usually goes into her dog house by 6pm and won't come out unless you REALLY encourage her to. I think it's because she's reluctant to lose the body heat she's trying to maintain while curled in a ball. But with this heating pad in there, she's been happy to come out into the cold and "say hi" when I go check on her -- probably because her overall body temp is higher and she can "afford" to come out and not feel like she's losing critical body heat. And when I pet her after she emerges, she feels comfortably warm! She just seems happier, and I'm hoping this will ensure that she won't sleep miserably on cold nights as I slowly try to acclimate her to living indoors. This pad is this the best! I have used the pad for an over a month through cold, upper 20s, southern weather. The pad works great! It keeps my feral cat nice and warm. This electric heating pad is a nice thickness and made of quality materials. I was able to place the pad in my cat’s house easily, and run the cord through the corner of the house to the outlet. The coils that protect the cord from playing or chewing as an additional safety feature, is perfect. I added an old towel for a door to keep the air out, and that helps. When I feed him in the mornings, I check the bed and it is always pleasantly warm to the touch. He loves the warmth so much, that he stays in the house on windy, chilly days This is a well thought out, and made product and worth the purchase! ... show more

My cats give it 5-stars, no question. It's a nice sized pad, big enough for two grown cats that like each other. Certainly doesn't get super warm, but it does get warm enough when the temperatures drops into the low 20's. Enough to keep the cats happy. Always have at least one cat using the pad since the colder weather arrived. Not terribly expensive, so it seems like a win all around. I live on the East Coast of the U.S. so it gets fairly cold in the Winter. I wanted a heating pad for my one cat specifically because she gets cold easily. She's also "handicapped" and needs to be contained when not being supervised (for her own safety). I have included a photo of the heating pad in her Playpen. I love the large heating pad! The cover is soft and warm and I love that it has a zipper for washing purposes. It seems to get to the right temperature for my girl to absolutely love it, so Im pleased.! I ended up cutting the tag off because my cats attempt to eat everything. 😹 UPDATE: OCTOBER 2025 -- I have owned this heating pad since January 2022, and have used it steadily during the fall & winter months. There is no temp control - plug it in and walk away! It gets plenty warm! My cats love this heating pad and will spend hours napping on it! ... show more

This is my dogs absolute favorite thing!! It stays warm but not too warm. She will sleep on it all night and some during day. She is limping less too so I think it helps with joint pain.
