This is a beautiful cat condo. Went together well; is fairly stable on a carpet (excellent on hardwood, I would think); It has absolutely wonderful ins and outs for kitties. Lots of different levels and fun activities for one or many. Any "newness smells" evaporates quite quickly. We love the fact that the top cushion they lay on is padded for extra fullness for relaxing and sleeping; and also can be taken off for cleaning. I would give it 5 stars instead of 4 ONLY for the reason so people can see that it benefits more kittens to begin with. An older cat that tries this as a new condo may not feel the stability or confidence they need. First, the cushy padding up top that WE LOVED became a "con" when the cat reached up (or over to get down) and the fabric fell with them. Second, the box under the top bed needs to be a good 6" bigger on one side. At present, it basically is the same width as bed. The 4" footing in front of it doesn't allow jumpers to get up. Again, it'll be fine for younger kittens that zoom around and use their claws to grip the sisal poles and hold their lightweight bodies as they climb up. But for older cats that use more of their back legs to jump up (and may be more arthritic to boot) they need longer landings so they can jump up and down between levels. Our cat loved it, but we found her staring at the next levels at times, rubbing her head against it with self-doubt that she could make it. And this is an 8lb girl that used to jump 5 ft straight up in the air when she was younger. ha ha But I do think it is a great one for younger cats. It really is lovely! ... show more

    • Unsafe Staples in the Scratchers
I got the 45.7" tree. The only reason I decided to keep it is because my cats were obsessed the minute I put it together. It's a sturdy tree, even for my 20lb boy. Doesn't wobble at all as long as it's against the wall. There's a mounting strap, but I haven't needed it so far. Boy cat loves the hammock. Once it was together, he climbed in and went right back to it after potty/food breaks for a full 24 hours. Still spends a good bit of time in it every day. The box is too small for him, but he's not really a box cat, anyway. His sister is, though. She weighs about 12lbs and fits perfectly inside the box. She is obsessed with the top bed, though, so that's where I usually find her. She is the protector and has always slept at the top of the stairs at night, but since we put this cat tree in, she sleeps on top of that instead, which works out because I was convinced one of us was going to trip over her and break our neck. Here's the problem. The box and scratchers are held together with staples. One of the staples holding the cloth to the box popped out when I was putting the posts inside. There's a TON of staples in the scratchers, and they weren't in there really great. There were gaps in the corners that the cats could get their claws stuck in. I re-rope my cat trees when the cats manage to rip the rope off the scratchers (until they're too damaged), so for me, it wasn't a big deal to rip the staples out and replace them with nontoxic hot glue. But if this isn't something you want to do, I would suggest going with another tree. ... show more
