  • We love Pete the Cat
This was a gift for a young child, and it was a huge success. He loved it and Mom loved it. I love the small size format, and thin paperback cover, both make holding a book easier for small hands

  • Birthday present
Our youngest grandson loves Pete the Cat. They read the books to him at day-care and when another friend got a Pet the Cat Book, their eyes lit up and said "Pete the Cat!" So our daughter suggested we get him the books, these are more for learning words and sounds. Which is great for him.

  • More difficult than other I Can Read sets
I was very disappointed with this set. I have several I Can Read phonics reader sets, including the Biscuit books (which are fantastic for emergent readers). I was expecting this set to be comparable, but they’re much, much too difficult for early readers. The books contain words like “instead”, “breakfast”, and “field” (to name just a few) which don’t follow the normal rules and are not Kindergarten or first grade sight words. I teach kids that when two vowels go walking, the first vowel does the talking, and then I introduce words that don’t follow that rule either as sight words or later on once they’ve grasped the fundamentals of reading first. These books would be better for second grade, but by second grade, most students are reading books that are much longer than these. I find this set very frustrating for early emergent readers. ... show more
