  • Great stuff for repair
Stuff worked great for my application. I had about an 1/4” x 1.5” crack/ rusted out area in my exhaust pipe. It in right next to where piece of heat shielding attached so it was easier to fill, but it would of worked if it was just a 1/4 crack anywhere. Applied as directed and worked great, amazing in fact. It’s only been a week, so idk how long it will hold. The pictures show prior, right after application and fully cured. It smooths out nice too. Still for a lot left in the tube. UPDATE MARCH2020: so after about a year this stuff fell off, but I think it was due to some other variables. Still, for a patch to hold a year is great! I just applied more today, the hole is still the same size too so It’s good it didn’t get worse. My muffler has a lot of surface rust, but this is the only hole and it still seems solid- so if I keep patching this every year, for 6$ and about 5 min of work, I can’t complain! Truthfully it lasted longer then I expected. Probably enough left in the tube for maybe one more application (3 total applications, but I put a lot on). It still get 5 stars! ... show more

  • It helps buy you time and is easy to use.
This was purchased for my daughter. Her exhaust system is all rusted out, particularly on the top part of the resonator. Occasionally a rust spot will give out and leave her with an inch-wide hole and a very noisy car. Luckily for her, this sealer can cover up some pretty big holes. Only thing is it might take several applications to bridge the gap over a large hole. Usually what she’ll do is apply a bit around the edges of the hole, wait 30 minutes, run the car for 10 minutes, wait another 30 minutes for the car to cool off, then repeat the process. For a particularly big hole it may take doing this 3-4 times. But she says if you’re patient, you’ll eventually get it sealed. There’s enough in the tube to fill maybe two or three big holes (and by big she means an inch wide). You can also use this to seal up any rusty joints. It can’t perform miracles, but it did buy her at least 6 months before her exhaust system was beyond patching up. ... show more

  • Excellent
Worked very well. Saved me money to pass inspection. Excellent product! This is an update on my previous review. My repair is still going strong since April. I used it on my catalytic converter. My check engine light was on as I had an exhaust leak. Used the Permatex to fix the leak after resetting check engine light. I had to fix it in order to pass inspection. Product works great. *** This is an update to kast years review. Well it’s been almost a year and the fix is still holding and I couldn’t be more happy with this product. It was a quick fix that has lasted and I can say that being sceptical at first, this stuff is great. Thanks Permatex for a great product and I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • This stuff works great!
I used this stuff to seal a leak at the exhaust flange between the cat and the tailpipe. Just squeezed the stuff into the rusted (but wire brush cleaned) gap between the two flange halves and no more leak. The dealership charged me $400 to fix the leak at the other flange and do you know what they did ... they cut the flange out and welded in a piece of tube so now when I change the exhaust I have to change the cat too. Don't let the dealer give you a headache, buy this stuff and save money. ... show more

  • Seems Good
This stuff acts sort of like a one-party epoxy for exhaust system repair. It goes on with a consistency like toothpaste. Easy to form / smear / tool with a gloved finger or the back of a plastic spoon, a popsicle stick, etc. Don't get it on your skin if you can help it, though. It won't bridge a large gap by itself -- you'll need high-temp filament tape or fiberglass mat or an appropriate piece of metal -- but it seals small holes and cracked seams well enough. Basically, you smear it on, smooth it as you like, and then let it air-dry for thirty minutes. Then you run the engine for 10 minutes or so, to get the exhaust system hot, and that cooks this stuff to a rock-like hardness. Best if you clean the repair area with a wire brush first. I don't find that you always need to, but if you don't want to do it twice, just take a couple of minutes to prep the metal. If you rev the engine a lot while this stuff is cooking, the exhaust pressure can force it back out of the repair, so go easy at first. Once it's really cured, it seems to last well. This is really for minor repairs on an otherwise good exhaust system or for plugger patches on the kind of exhaust held up with baling wire. If it works, it works. This stuff is cheap, fast, and easy, and it works well if you're thorough. ... show more

  • Garbage
I wire wheel cleaned the area to bare metal Dearest a Surface Prep alcohol cleaner follow the directions to a T. After less than one week the product failed and the small hole in my muffler was back. Absolutely no reason for this other than the product being garbage. I knew I should have just welded it in the first place but the whole was so small I figured something like this would work.. Guess not ... show more

Make sure you squeeze tube to mix. I had a hole in my exhaust and this worked great. I wet the area where I was applying, took aluminum foil, put a car jack under the exhaust and put the sealer on the hole and applied to pressure with the car jack. Let it sit for an hour and then turned on the car and let it run for another 40 min. Lowered the jack to remove the aluminum foil and it was nice and set. ... show more

  • Sealed and hardened nicely
I used this to patch some bad flange connections, which had some big gaps, and it sealed very well. You have to be careful to follow instructions, and wait appropriate drying times. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I won't be able to give it a long term test, because shortly after I made the repairs, I went and had the bad sections professionally replaced/welded, because there were some parts, like the flex pipe, that were beyond patchable. If I had to make a patchable repair in the future, I would use this again. ... show more
