Description

Premium Organic Garden Coir Coir is an organic material comprised of the tough, fibrous material of coconuts. This material has a plethora of uses and is seen in everything from door rugs to rope. In addition, this medium has made quite an impact in the horticultural world for its wonderful use as a soil medium or amendment. Coconut coir is characterized by its tough texture and high resistance to Breaking down in water, making it an excellent addition to plant soils that will be receiving frequent waterings. This material adds substance and body to planting mixes and ensures that the dirt holds onto moisture but protects your plants from root rot. Garden coir is commonly used in place of Peat Moss for its ability to retain up to 30% more moisture and stay intact organically. For more compact soils, such as those with high amounts of clay, adding coir can improve drainage. Read more Improves air porosity Organic Garden Coir is not as easily compacted compared to other popular soil mediums and soil additives. This makes it the perfect choice to add to soils to improve aeration. This added volume and body makes it easier for the roots of your plant to soak up water and nutrients, and decreases the chances of dry pockets forming in the soil. Better circulation means better nutrient distribution. Neutral pH Naturally has a more basic pH compared to peat moss, which is more acidic. Acidic isn't bad, however some plants do not grow well in acidic soil. So for growers looking to add texture, aeration, and volume to their potting mix without upping the acidity Organic Coconut Garden Coir is the best option. Coconut coir is often in 5.5-6 pH range where as Peat Moss is estimated to be more acidic at 3.5-5 pH. Long lasting Perfect for plants that are in long time homes, and longer lasting than other soil amendments such as peat moss. In addition to to being slower to decompose, coco coir is tough and fibrous which makes it harder to compact overtime. Like all soil additives, it will compact after months of roots sucking up nutrients and plant growth, however at a slower rate when compared to similar amendments. Read more Great For Seed Starting Coconut Garden Coir makes for the perfect seed starting medium for its resistance to Breaking down and its low acidity. Most plants grown from seeds, such as vegetable plants, prefer to grow in more neutral to basic pH soils. Coconut husk is not easily compacted and retains the perfect amount of nutrients and moisture for a new seedling to sprout and thrive. Organic Coconut Coir creates the perfect environment for new seeds and, in addition to all the positive attributes, is more sustainable than Peat Moss! Read more Read more

  • Full of sand
I didn’t think I would be paying for a quarter bag of sand! The package says nothing about sand in the coir. Will never buy it again.

  • Perfect plant medium
At the recommendation of several plant influencers I purchased the coco coir. I mix it with perlite/pumice and worm compost. It makes a wonderful plant medium. Even though it is fall my plants are still producing new growth. I highly recommend the product.

  • Full of sticks, sand, and dirt! Not pure coir.
The first bag of these I ordered months ago was perfect. My mushrooms were very happy with just a boiled water bath, so I reordered this item. This new batch was horrible! So many other bits of sand and sticks that were unrelated to coco coir were filling the bag. Looked like little white specks everywhere. I'm not even going to try using my homegrown mycelium with this new batch. This would be great for my other plants but they should say in the ingredients list that there are non-coir sediments in here. ... show more

  • This bag is fully of sand (or salt)!!!!
I am not sure why, but my most recent bag is moist coir covered in tiny specs of sand or salt. I certainly hope it's sand and not salt since I have already used it! That said, i expected dry fluffy and pure coir as I have received in the past. The first plant I used with this died (first plant I have ever killed since getting in to indoor plants a year ago). If these very visible specs are salt, a whole bunch of salt would definitely contribute to such a sudden death of the palm. But to be fair, I don't think this is why it died. Nonetheless, the most recent bag was quite stringy rather than a peat like material. This meant it compacted quite a bit and these overlapping fibers creates an impenetrable layer that does let hardly any water drain. I am giving a two star only because my most recent plants needed sand in the potting mix so it wasn't terribly inconvenient, but now I have a huge bag of suspicious coir. My main concern is quality control because I use this brand for 90% of my mix ingredients (peat moss, vermiculite, coir, pre-made mixes, etc.) I will update my review as the other plants I used wit the coir most recently progress, and I will add a picture of the mysterious specs (they are plentiful and very visible right out of the bag). ... show more

  • Feels soft!
I probably could have ordered more. This is a 12 inch pot. Was trying to fill it a little bit more. I know nothing about soil so I couldn't tell you exactly what I think 😂 used it for my ficus tree

  • This nearly killed all my plants
This should absolutely not be used as soil. I repotted a few plants with this and they all slowly died. I replaced the soil on a few of them and within two days, they were completely recovered. I don't know why this stuff had such a bad effect on my plants, but obviously I can't recommend.

  • Generous amount of Coir
This is my first experience using Coir for my plants. I don't know how it will help my various plants but it looks to be top quality and their was a generous size bag at a good price. I'm using it in combo with other potting mix to enhance the general quality of my planting soil. So far, so good!!

  • Not Authentic
I thought the clear white stuff was salt but I see some other reviews that said that clear stuff is sand. This "soil" is very lightweight, waaaaaay too lightweight. I bought this because for one, its resealable. That's a very big convenience for beginning gardeners like myself that's planting maybe two plants at a time and still have enough for later use. I also bought it because I ran out of Happy Frog and it would have taken 3 days to come if I had purchase another bag compare to this soil that delivers the next day. I mixed it thoroughly with my Happy Frog so I can spread it out evenly to 2 grows I have. It's been 3 days since I mix and planted my herbs and they are not showing any signs of deficiency so this soil may not be too bad but I will not buy again. ... show more
