Advanced Light-Shielding Technology for Improved Image Contrast Thanks to PENTAX’s advanced computer simulation technology, the XW series features a light-shielding diaphragm at the most effective position to drastically reduce internal reflections for a brighter, higher-contrast image. A Choice of Six Magnifications to Meet Specific Applications With six different magnifications (3. 5mm, 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm and 20mm) to choose from, the XW series accommodates a wide range of both casual and specialized applications. • Great Field of view, contrast. tack sharp
Style: XW-40R
I've paired this with a Celestron C9.25 (2800mm focal length, f/10) Good eye relief. I wear glasses and I had zero issues using this with them. I still prefer to view without my glasses, but I use them when I'm sharing the scope with others. Note, this is my first 2" eyepiece, so this might be expected from the (semi) pros, So I will compare this to a pretty decent 40mm 1.25" mounted in the same scope. My experience on different viewings: - M42: Compared to my 1.25" 40mm. Much wider FOV, could see the whole nebula through the eyepiece, old eyepiece contained just the inner portion due to its lower FOV Had zero issues resolving all four stars pin sharp in the trapezoid. the 1.25" 40mm had difficulty resolving the trapezoid - Moon: good viewing night compared to 1.25" 40mm So much brighter, had to put two moon filters on the 2" to view comfortably wide FOV was a bit larger than the moon, so I could see the whole thing good viewing makes it really sharp, kind of like you're standing three feet away from it - Jupiter/Saturn convergence 2020 FOV contained both planets and their moons (on the 22nd, the day after their closest point) Bands of Jupiter had much more contrast with this eyepiece Overall, I'm very happy with this eyepiece. It's now my "first view searcher" eyepiece when zeroing in on a target. It's got good brightness, contrast, and sharpness. ... show more

  • Top notch
Style: XW-3.5
This is a top quality professional eyepiece. It is hefty, durable, and has excellent clarity. I am using it with my 102mm refractor and it works like a charm.

  • High quality, fully multi-coated, waterproof eyepiece
Style: XW-14
I gave it 5* for it's overall quality and construction. This is much better than a zoom, which comes standard on most scopes. It is fully multi-coated, (the best), has a sharp image with good brightness and light transmission. I do not see any aberration's. It also has good eye relief- 20mm. It is waterproof and fog proof- some other telescopic eyepieces by third parties are not waterproof- read the fine print. This is a perfect match for the Pentax scope 65EDA or 80EDA- buy the body only and then buy a quality eyepiece like this. It is easy to install on a spotting scope or telescope. The XW series is the top line Pentax eyepieces. The XF series is a step down, but also good quality. It was shipped in a very sturdy protective case that you can use to store or transport it in. It weighs approx 12.8 oz, so on a Pentax PF-65EDA scope, the total weight is over 3 pounds. Combined with a Pentax PF-80 EDA, the unit weighs over 4 pounds. I use it for birding and it is great. ... show more

  • It looks and feels like a 2"eyepiece
Style: XW-5
Absolutely stunning eyepiece. It is the most high powered eyepiece one can use with Celestron EdgeHD 8 scope. Even at that extreme usable magnification, the Pentax 5mm produces absolutely clear and crisp edge to edge image! The eyepiece is really very big and heavy, the photograph is deceiving. It looks and feels like a 2"eyepiece. Without any hesitation, I can say this is my best eyepiece compared to my other eyepieces from Explore Scientific and Televue. Get one till you get it. I have heard Ricoh has stopped manufacturing them. ... show more

  • Wow what a view!
Style: XW-7
Huge improvement from standard lenses that come with SCT telescope and very sharp image to the edge. Jupiter never looked this good and when I tested it the seeing conditions were average or below average.

  • Wide field of view
Style: XW-5
Minimal chromatic aberration. Something is not completely okay sometimes field of view is shaded, it depends on eye distance from eyepiece.

  • Pricey, but what a view!
Style: XW-7
Specialty magazines have done the technical reviews - and they're good. I use this on 65mm and 80mms pentax scopes and on my celestron c5 spotter (small cat telescope). There is occasional kidney beaning with higher magnifications (really outside intended ranges) and looking at the moon absolutely requires a filter. But this is all expected. I love this thing! ... show more

  • Great Eyepiece.
Style: XW-20
Very nice eyepiece. Perfect for my 5” SCT. I really like the TeleVue Ethos I got, but it’s huge. This eyepiece is just right and great quality.
