    • Good case, holster...mmmm?
First of all, I like the case, Very nice. Fits like a glove. Seems tough enough. But....I have been using Otterboxes for years as it is a work phone and durability is a concern. The Otters however are large, and much of the time will not allow the phone to fit into a tool pocket. Hence I tried the Pelican and it does have a smaller footprint. The belt holster is a concern. The belt clip is weak and comes open easily. Mainly though I am exchanging because it takes just the slightest push on the holster release for the phone to come out. Much too easy for accidental release I believe. If you don't use the holster, I very much recommend the Pelican. ... show more

    • Serviceable, but lacks grip and refinement
It's a decently constructed phone case, but the design lacks refinement and its grip texture is utterly disappointing. I expected better from Pelican. They were clearly aiming for the middle of the pack with this case design. It's a two-piece affair with a somewhat pliable rubberized plastic bottom section and a hard plastic upper frame that snaps together like a sandwich around the phone. I expect it'll handle a fall from chest height onto a hard floor without issue. The button overlays feel decent, but the flaps covering the ring/silent switch and charging port are very stiff and difficult to hold open for use. Considering that virtually all smartphones are now slippery slabs of glass, metal, and plastic, I expect good phone cases to enhance the grippiness of the device. This Pelican case gets a C-minus. It's not worse than the bare phone, but the smooth plastic sides are not helpful. The holster is an injection molded hard plastic contraption that offers 360 degree swivel with 24-position detents and a belt clip that locks open to allow the phone to sit upright at an angle, which is pretty neat. However, the clip has a tendency to work its way off my belt after I bend over a couple times. Increased clip spring tension and/or the capability to lock the clip closed would be helpful. This case is for my work phone, so I can live with its mediocrity. But there are better options out there. ... show more
