I bought these based on Amazon reviews. I find that I am limiting myself because paints are so expensive that I just put a tiny dab on pallet, then can't do any interesting strokes or alla prima. So I figured I would try these - large tubes, good price. Reviews indicated they had decent opacity. I tried them yesterday and was very pleased! Very creamy, nice oil content, good opacity. Hope to do some nice thick alla prima this week and really use some paint! It was a nice feeling to squeeze out a big glob and not worry that I just used half a tube! Color range was incomplete, I still had to supplement with other paints for burnt umber, sap green, and a few others, but the range provided was decent and there were a few interesting colors too. I bought the second largest range. Negatives = you can't buy individual tubes here so when I run out of white I am going to have to use other brands. Like I said, color range was incomplete but usable. Overall I would rate it a BUY, especially for tube size and cost. ... show more

Felt I couldn't go wrong. Initially bought it for the number of color selections, the cheap price and the name of the long dead German artist from whom it's name was borrowed. Going for two studies. One of Elina Garanca, the mezzo soprano who stole every man's soul playing the wild-eyed, fearless washer woman, Carmen, at the Metropolitan Opera, and a Latvian girl driving her family's cows home in the rain. I tried these out as my first time trying oil paint from being an avid acrylic user and it was a shock. Very thick and difficult to use. With enough linseed oil though they came out fine. Now that I'm more experienced I use these paints no problem but they were definitely hard to learn. Some of the colors are a bit chalky as well. Overall would reccomend them but my favorite is the Castle brand so far. ... show more

They do dry relatively quickly, but they definitely need layering for good values to come through. Relatively sheer in comparison but the main trait to prioritize is faster drying time. I compared it to another paul rubens brand on amazon and the other has taken well over 300 hours to dry for the primary colors. These work well and are a good cheap option. ... show more

Searched for water based oils. They are not. Started painting and went to rinse brush. Half a canvas took half tube of paint to cover. Cannot thin paint. False advertising by Amazon. Pulled up these paints so I assumed it matched my search. Used the paints so I cannot return.

This paint meets the thickness requirements to paint wet in wet as Bob demonstrates on "The Joy of Painting." I removed the cap of the white titanium and squeezed the tube in the upright position and the paint "stood at attention" up to about 3/8" before falling over yet remaining intact with no running oils as some of the reviewers noted. I haven't checked all the colors yet. Also, it's worth noting that the resin used in the colors of Bob's paints is the same as the resin in Paul's. They both use "alkyd" based resin for the base color. Just look on the ingredients for the magic white jar and it says so. For my money, this makes a suitable exchange for the higher priced Bob Ross paints. I got the 20 pack of Paul Reuben alkyd based resin oil paints for less than $50 in the 50ml tube size each. Whereas, a 14 pack of similar color BR paints in 37ml tube size each are over $64. ... show more
