  • Great greenhouse for the family gardener!!
Size: 8 Ft. x 16 Ft. Style: without Starter Kit
This is a great greenhouse. It did take us a while to put it together... but it was well worth it. The instructions are not great... but you just have to take your time. Between our two heads... we would eventually figure out what to do. Do an inventory of all your parts first. You do not want to be in the middle of putting this together only to find out that you have to reorder a part. We also put all the small parts in an old muffin tin. It worked great to keep the parts together. We had a cement pad poured for leveling and cleanliness. They even put a drain right down the middle of the pad that drains to a pipe outside. So easy for clean up! Then we attached treated lumber to the cement pad and assembled the greenhouse on that base. My husband is 6'5" and has no trouble working in the greenhouse. We use ours to winter over our many citrus trees, hibiscus and even several avocado trees that we have in pots. We also purchased the self opening window hinges. These worked like a charm. But, you have to remember to take them off in the winter because you want to keep as much heat in there as possible. We learned a lot the first winter we went through. This greenhouse is not insulated at all. We live in Missouri and should've know better. We had 3 heaters running almost non-stop and ran out of circuits so had to make 2 small clay heaters made from bread pans, clay pots and 10 hour votive candles (Which work amazingly well... you can find the instructions on YouTube) And we still lost some plants. The second year we insulated with bubble wrap and plant fabric. And also caulked all the way around the base, inside and out. We have a Lacrosse thermometer set that allows us to monitor the temp from inside the house as well as on our cell phones. And we have WEMO devices on the heater plugs so we can turn the heaters on and off as the temp demands... whether we are home or away because we can monitor via our phones. That winter we used two heaters most of the time. We purchased our bubble wrap on Amazon. It was the prefect size and great price. Bubble Cushioning Wrap - 24" Wide x 250 Ft - Large 1/2" Bubbles - sold by Starboxes. We used the Palram plant hanger hooks to hold the plant fabric in place which in turn held the bubble wrap in place. We also used heavy packing tape to tape any gaps. This year (October 2017), so far, we have only put up the bubble wrap. We used the Palram plant hanger hooks again, but, we have taped each section together to keep all cold air out. So far this year it has already gotten down to the 20's and we have only had to use two heaters on two days. Most of the time one heater works just fine. It keeps the temp inside the greenhouse almost 20 degrees warmer than outside. We are waiting to see if we even need to put up the plant fabric. ... show more

  • HAVE SOME PATIENCE AND TAKE IT SLOW HAVE SOME PATIENCE AND TAKE IT SLOW
Size: 8 Ft. x 8 Ft. Style: without Starter Kit
If you don't want to read below, quick response, I would buy it again. Order and arrival was prompt.... week early. You will need two people to move the box. It is heavy YOU HAVE TO INVENTORY THE PARTS... MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS THERE. Hardware in pre-packaged bags does not need to be checked. All of them were accurrate. The green house base whatever you use, has to be level or the parts won't fit. You will need two people for at least 6 hours. I had help for first day and completed second day by myself 10 hours total. You will need ladder(s) There is a manual in the box, take a picture of the cover with the ID information tag. You will need this for any replacement parts or correspondence. There is a hard cardboard angle, about 20 inches long in the box. You will need it, so don't throw it away. It says don't throw away on the side of it. ( I threw it away and then retrieved , lol ) I separated the two shipping box halves and put them side by side on saw horses. There are many parts and you don't want to be bending over 300 times. I also marked the inventoried items with a red marker. If you don't you will forget if you counted it. PROS: 1. Parts manufactured appear to be of good quality and accurrate 2. Assembly of parts was medium to sometimes difficult, but all parts fit. 3. The Green House faces the North and side walls East and West. It has sustained constant 30 mph winds for 10 hours , with gusts to 40 mph on three occasions. Stays put, handled it well. I did not do any additional achoring. 4. Temperature difference between outside air and green house was average 25 to 30 degrees hotter in the green house in day time. At 70 F and above outside air, you have to open vent and doors. Very Good . 5. The acrylic panels are easy to install , very durable, bendable and don't scratch easily. 6. I was missing a part and the 24 hr. online service for replacement parts was easy and I recieved the part in one day . ( I assembled on weekend, recieved on Monday) Good service. CONS: 1. Instructions are difficult to understand, since they are mostly pictures. They are quite a puzzle and quite ingenious at the same time. This will test your patience. 2. Many of the parts numbers on the pieces were not readable or scrapped off in shipping. So I had to match by pictures. I did not like that. Poor tagging or they used old tags with faint ink. 3. Door which is assembled at factory would not stay together. Had to use sheet metal screws at the joints. 4. The gutters, which are part of the horizonal structure will catch anything that lands on the green house. Clog easy. When they clog, water will seep inside the green house if hard rain. MODIFICATIONS: 1. There are about 10 push and turn fasteners used. ( Items 22 and 23) They would not stay in place and when the wind blew , they popped out on the floor. I bought T-bolts and nuts and replaced them. Worked fine. (M6x25mm T-Slot Drop-in Stud) May have to file them a some. 2. I added automated roof vent actuator with a thermostat . If you buy the pneumatic one made for this green house, you cannot change the set point . I also added rain detector so it would close when raining. 3, I added a solar light inside. For the price, it is well worth the investment, just read the instructions a few times before you start the build. I read many reviews here before buying and that helps. So I knew upfront the instuctions were bad. So it was not a suprise. 2 Year Follow up: 1. Nothing has come loose , failed, or come apart , still very secure as a whole 2. Still does good in the wind (loud) , but the most I have gotten is 40 mph 3. The acrylic panels are stil fine, no yellow, just like new 4. I have added heat : A. Electric Heat 1500w on a thermostat . Cost is 80 cents a day in fall and spring. For OA Temps 35 and above B. Propane heat 15,000 btu on a thermostat Cost is about $50 per season For OA temps Below 35 to 10 5. I have added a Fan in the back with a wood frame , and exhaust shutter. It controls @ 70F 6. I have added a couple dryer vents install backward for air intake. Overall I am very satisfied. No 5 star, those instructions were tough :) ... show more

  • $2000 worth of garbage
Size: 8 Ft. x 20 Ft. Style: without Starter Kit
Update - This did not even last one season! Within 4 months the metal roof supports started snapping. Approximately 7 months after erection, wind has left this greenhouse in a pile. It is a complete loss! I live in Illinois. We are not subject to regular extreme wind. This was not tornado or straight line wind damage. This was an extremely poor quality product that continued to fail in very average Midwest conditions. $2000+ worth of garbage that I now have to pay to dispose of. This is the most disappointing purchase I have ever made. I feel taken. Below was my first review: Parts in the box were broken and one plastic part was improperly formed. This is obviously a quality control issue, not damaged in shipment. This greenhouse is flimsy and of a low quality. I worry every time the wind blows. None of the roof vents seal. When it rains everything under them is flooded. Many of the parts in the box were not marked with any numbers, making it a process of elimination just to try to figure out the correct pieces to use while constructing. The instructions are drawings only, no written instruction, leaving some of the construction a bit confusing. This was a disappointing purchase. Upon completion, I felt if there was an option to put it all back in the box and send it back I would have done so without hesitation. Definitely not worth the money and TIME spent! ... show more

[We normally do not write reviews until we have owned a product for a decent period of time. This is an exception as we are only a month out from receiving our greenhouse kit. However, cold days near and some of you may need to make a time-pressured decision. We discuss, below, some aspects of winter use based on prior ownership of a greenhouse that was used during the cold months. See added feedback at end of this review.] We owned a greenhouse, bought at Harbor Freight, that cost substantially less then the one I'm reviewing here. That greenhouse had several problems: high winds sometimes "ripped" panels out, air leaks, sliding door that frequently jammed, vent window that did not shut snugly, replacing door gasket was a many hour job, and so on. Thus, we were looking for a replacement that could stand up to the winds and cold weather that are native to Albuquerque. We read the reviews here and other places and finally ordered the 6x8 to replace our other greenhouse. We did so in fear and trembling given the numerous bad reviews with descriptions of structural issues. The reviews that reported success were convincing, however. Now here is where we parted ways with most of you: We did not try to build it ourselves though we have done many complex projects successfully. We know an extremely talented builder, also a very handy man, who wanted our old green house so a deal was struck - the old greenhouse for his installing the new one. (We paid for additional supplies.) Let me be more specific about the talents of this builder: he built and lives in a 9,000 sq ft plus home that he did almost all the construction; his job now and in the past has always involved building and assembling both indoors and out. And he isn't afraid to read instructions until understood. I'm harping on the talents brought to the job because many people with "tool" hobbies believe they can throw this project together easily. Many can't and they provide bad reviews in frustration. My advise is simply that if you are not comfortable with messy constructions that require a lot of patients and the stamina to backup and do it the other way, get some professional help to put this puppy together. Also note that the instructions are just pages and pages of pictures - no descriptions - so you must figure out what is meant. Puzzle solving is fun but hours and hours a day for several days? Now I am going to list what is good about this kit and the resulting greenhouse: * We followed the initial instructions and went through all of the parts and compared shapes, part numbers, and amounts to those shown in the instructions. On our first call to the manufacturer, we left a message. They called back and we discussed discrepancies between our count and the instructions'. Several days later, the replacement and/or additional parts showed up at our house. We called after completing construction to order more parts to help us hang things from the ceiling and mount a thermostat. We were charged a reasonable amount and those parts showed up a few days later. So all of our interactions with service were positive! * The transparent plastic pieces that comprise the sides and doors are substantial and are locked in place so I believe that our occasional 50+ MPH winds will have little effect. Locked in place means fit in groves on all sides and those grove areas covered by additional hardware. We have had a recent blow near 40 MPH with no problems. * There are a large number of "truing" gadgets that force edges, walls, and roof into appropriate inter angles and strengthen the joints. * We had a 6x8 wood border secured to concrete from our old greenhouse. You MUST install same if you will experience high winds. This is not optional. This kit comes with proper skirts and what-nots so this doesn't look bad. Some care is needed here - it is important that connecting walls make right angles and non-adjacent walls be parallel. This must be done before installing most of the truing gadgets. It is also necessary that you make sure the screws through the wood into the concrete can coexist with the screws through the bottom of the greenhouse into the same wood. * The door swings open; it does not slide. It is a two-part Dutch door and the parts can open independently. There is a mechanism that holds the door open so that it will not slam around in the wind and latches to tightly lock either or both parts. * The long sides of the roof, where the roof meets the sides, have little gutters. On the front and back side of each gutter are places to attach tubes to lead the water away. This is a thoughtful extra that might be really important if your green house is in a place that easily accumulates deep water. * One of the top plastic covers contains a vent mechanism with proper hardware to seal it shut or hold it rigidly open. * A lot of covering mechanisms are supplied to hide the various crufty joints where multiple pieces come together in weird ways. In other words almost all the joins look quite professional. * Because of several things mentioned above, this greenhouse feels really solid and we expect none of the problems we experienced with our former one. Before signing off, I want to mention a few perhaps atypical things that we are doing with our new greenhouse. We called the manufacturer and ask about winter use. The reply was "This is a three season greenhouse." So like our former one, this one will be insulated. Pieces of insulation are cut to fit between the vertical supports that form the walls and each piece will extend from the floor to the beginning of the roof. We have also brought electricity to it to support a light bulb, a control thermostat, and an electric heater. This is the same arrangement as in our former greenhouse. We also put insulation in the floor cavity and covered it with fake wood boards across the whole floor area. In addition, all bottom metal parts of the green house (those touching the bottom wood frame) have been sprayed with some sort of rubbery substance that should inhibit oxidation where the rubber meets the water or snow. I must say the whole thing looks totally wonderful and I'm expecting it to have a long life and survive whatever nature throws at it. ADDED 1/29/2017: Our greenhouse has been operational for the first several months of winter so I can comment on it through experience and also note a slight change in the anticipated winter-proofing. I should note that our winter goal is merely to allow plants to survive the cold weather. We are not trying to grow tomatoes or tropical orchids in winter. So the goal of insulation and heater is just to prevent temperatures below 40 degrees F. Change in insulation: We did not cut up insulation sheets and lay along the walls as anticipated above. Rather, we followed a suggestion from someone at the manufacturer. We took bubble wrap (fairly large bubbles), cut it to size to fit the panes (about half of a panel) of the plastic siding, moistened the bubble side, then pressed it on the inside of the plastic panes, bubbles facing the outside. This almost worked but some of the wrap loosened so we got little velcro buttons with sticky outsides. We put buttons on the four corners of each plastic pane and the corresponding points on the bubble wrap pieces. This arrangement has worked better than we expected and recommend it to you. Experience: This winter has had some unusually cold nights and high speed winds. The combination of floor insulation (see above), bubble wrap, and heater have maintained desired temperatures despite some nights in the low teens! I'm impressed. We have also experienced winds that were reported at 35-50mph and were knocking parts out of the trees. The greenhouse has been solid as a rock; but, note ours is attached to a wood frame on the bottom and that frame is screwed into the concrete. The only wind-related problem was when we left the door open, held by a hold-the-door-open gizmo that is part of the kit. That gizmo, a plastic strap, was snapped by the high wind. Note that it was idiotic of us to leave the door open in such windy conditions. The good news is that the manufacturer sent us a replacement at no charge. ADDED 5/20/2017: In response to a request via a comment attached to this review, I've added three photos. One shows the bubble wrap insulation from inside the greenhouse, the second shows various electric gizmos including the heater and control thermostat, and the third shows some of the fake wood floor which covers a layer of insulation. It's fairly hot now days so there are no plants on the inside. ... show more

I bought this greenhouse after several months of research for a small, not-too-expensive greenhouse with heat-venting options, as we live in an area with hot summers and it's mostly to be used in the fall/winter. An acquaintance bought this greenhouse (after looking, as I did, for a while). What I was looking for was METAL construction, because everything here rots, if it's wood, but on a budget. Not too big, but not tiny. So, lucky me, I caught my Palram Snap and Grow 6 X 8 on sale, and I jumped in in, so I could have it up by the cold weather (which usually here is in late December). The reviews had been mostly good about construction being relatively easy, and my husband and I have built two houses, several sheds, and put together IKEA furniture (that being the most important one, it turns out). Still, putting it up was was not as easy as my acquaintance had me believe, but there are reasons. Immediately after receiving the greenhouse kit, the rains began. And, it got cold. This led to delays, because we were putting in a foundation for it, which meant the ground had to dry out for a day or two--which didn't happen for a while. This put us into mid-December. We first built a foundation, using recycled plastic 'lumber' , filling it up with 2 inches of builder's clay and topping that with 2 inches of decomposed granite. That had to sit for a bit and then--we had cold, wet weather. Since we were building this outside (no way to carry it from the opposite side of the house where the garage is), the both we and the parts of the greenhouse were COLD. I know high 30s and mid-40s are summer in some places, but that was too cold to do this construction. Every part that had to fit together just didn't fit. By now, we thought we were doing it wrong. The instructions are all pictures, with few written directions (thank you, earlier reviewer, for telling us to look back for the numbered instructions at the front of the booklet, and for telling us to lay out all the parts before we start). We watched UTube (no help! Can someone PLEASE build one of these on UTUBE?). We would have called customer service in frustration, but because most of this was done on weekends, they weren't available. Finally, we resorted to shaving the plastic connectors with a box cutter to get them to fit together. That helped. Silicone spray helped. A rubber mallet is essential. After getting most of the greenhouse put together, we finally had a warm (55-60 degree) weekend. The last part went together like it was meant to, all the parts fitting without complaint or shaving. We realized then, the temps had something to do with it. We ended up removing the metal base and using 4 X 6 posts for a base, screwing the frame down to it directly. This really helped with the headroom, because, even though the center is 7 ft tall, the sides are low enough that a 5'4" person can bump her head. Not to mention 6'1" husband. And, because it can be 40 at night and 90 in the daytime here in winter, we purchased an automatic opener for the roof vent. Unfortunately, it comes on when the heat is on in the greenhouse (at about 55 degrees), which sort of negates the heat running, so we disconnected it for now, and ordered the parts to put a second window in the end of the greenhouse opposite the door. Now, when it's hot, I can open both ends and let the heat flow out, even with the shade cloth covering it. If you choose to do this, I suggest you order the parts when you get the greenhouse (parts come from Palram directly), and do it all at the same time. There is a little bit of making-do, but it can work. So, to recap: Check to make sure you have ALL parts necessary. There will probably be extras. Read the instructions BEFORE you start. This will prevent needless delays later. We know. Put the thing together in temperatures 50 degrees or warmer, or be prepared to have to modify parts to fit. Two people are necessary for parts of the construction. One will do for other parts. Don't believe that just because other reviewers say they built this in 6-8 hours that you will be able to. Maybe you will. Maybe it will take you 3 weekends. If you have the 6 X * ft greenhouse, the metal shelf that Palram sells is not as useful as it could be. It would fit better in the larger house, as it can only fit between verticals without braces, unless you want it very low. It won't fit on the ends at all. If I didn't have it already, I would not purchase it. You can buy metal shelving on sale that is much more useful. Do have a fan of some sort to put in your greenhouse. Even a small one will keep the air moving and help prevent fungus and other problems. I love my finished greenhouse. I've started seeds and cuttings, and put my lemon tree inside and it's blooming up a fragrant cloud. It was worth it, just wish we had been able to do it in warmer weather! ... show more

  • It is all about the Instructions
Size: 6 Ft. x 8 Ft. Style: without Starter Kit
Overall the greenhouse is ok. It does seem a little flimsy at first, but once it's all together it seems more sturdy. I am giving it 3 stars, but it's fall and I have not been through the winter or a high wind spring yet. Where it lacks are the instructions, I'd rate them as 1 star by themselves. I was trying to figure out the size of the base I needed for this 6 x 8 and the instructions provided in the box were for a 6 x 8 + 4 or 6'W x 12'L . When it came to parts I had to figure out what parts were for the 4' extension and what was the 8' unit alone. The plastic parts were poorly protected and 2 were broke/damaged in shipment; and the thin aluminum braces were all bent. There are no good illustrated detail for attaching the wall and ceiling posts, you just have to figure it out. I got this because I just moved and needed a small greenhouse to get me through the winter. I plan on getting a larger greenhouse next year and will likely find another manufacturer. It took a little over 6 hours to put this up and would have been a lot faster with better instructions. ... show more

  • Great Product for Patient People Great Product for Patient People
Size: 8 Ft. x 8 Ft. Style: without Starter Kit
Let me say first that I am pleased with this product. There are some things that aren't wonderful, but I would buy it again. Here's the story: I ordered it and it came a day ahead of the promised delivery date. I happened to be standing in the driveway when UPS arrived. I waited with some amusement to see how a UPS driver wrangles a 150 lb box out of a UPS truck. After some huffing and puffing. He managed to get it on a hand truck and roll it up the driveway. I just had him drop it there and my son and I carried it to the back yard. The box is a two person carry. This is a two person project. Do not attempt to build it yourself. You need four hands for some steps. 1. Make sure your plot is dead level. If it's not, you will never get some pieces to line up. I got stumped a couple of times and then realized that a corner had shifted. I was working on soft soil. When something doesn't line up, check your level. 2. The design is ingenious and the instructions are equally cunning. They were designed by Satan himself. When in doubt, put the instructions down, walk away, drink a beer, come back to it later. The drawings are a puzzle. Be patient. 3. There is a diagram of a tool that you do not have in your tool box. It has a 7 mm nut driver on one end and a little plastic nudger end at the other. It is actually included in one of the many bags of black plastic parts. You will understand what I'm talking about when you see the picture in the instructions. Look in the parts bag, not in your toolbox. 4. Did I mention that you need four hands? You need four hands. My adult son and I worked on it for 5 hours on a Saturday until we got stumped by the nudger tool picture. I worked on it for 4 hours the second day. I may have finished it in that 4 hour session, but my second set of hands got bored with the project and vanished. I worked on it for about an hour for the next four consecutive evenings. Total time was about 13 hours for 1.5 people. Two fairly intelligent adults with minimal mechanical skills could build this in about 8-10 hours. 5. There are pictures that suggest that you wear work gloves. You need to wear work gloves. The polyvinyl cuts like no paper cut you have ever experienced and the aluminum edges may bite. Wear gloves. 6. Bendy bits: The frame is made of lightweight material which is easy to manipulate and build with. This is good. It's also bendy and pliable, which is bad. MANY parts were bent. I have a vise that I used to straighten the doors which were bent and pliers for other pieces. I also have a little bit of practice bending sheet metal in a hydraulic press and the patience of Job. You can bend most of the bent pieces back to true with some time and patience. You are purchasing a 150 lb box of mostly straight aluminum bits. You will get bent pieces in that box. Do not fret. Bend them back. 7. I was really worried about how flimsy this thing seemed while I was building it. It will frame up nicely and be very stiff and true. Do not forget step one. Make sure you install all of the braces that are included. 8. Anchor kit. I live in the infrequent hurricane zone but we do get Nor' Easters and frequent weird wind storms. My neighbor had a 12' x 12' aluminum shed that ended up on top of a tree. You're probably going to want to anchor this sucker if you live somewhere prone to wind. They sell a Palram anchor kit. I went to a hardware store and bought steel cables, tackle and anchors for about $10 less, and I think my anchors are probably more stout than the Palram kit. 9. My biggest regret is that the roof vent does not secure firmly, and the doors can be finicky when closing. They close reasonably well, but could be easier to close. I am going to have to rig some sort of chicken wire cover for the vent window, which will have to remain open virtually all summer. I intend to make it varmint proof, so a little engineering will be required. The roof vent was one of the bent items that I had to straighten and it doesn't want to shut 100% closed. This is a minor flaw that I will tinker with all Spring and it will be okay in the end. 10. I put mine on a raised planting bed and installed a gravel floor. I'm attaching some pictures. Enjoy. ... show more

As soon as I received my Greenhouse my excitement of getting the greenhouse turned into absolute panic. I ordered the largest size greenhouse because it was supposed to be green. The smaller greenhouses were the clear plastic which is what I absolutely did not want. But the thing that concerns me most was the thickness of the plastic, it is about the consistency of a plastic package that you would buy in Costco for a pair of scissors. I was informed that I could return the product there would be a restocking fee and I would have to pay for the return shipping. So I would be out approximately $500 So reluctantly we decided to keep the product. Since it was already fall and winter was soon going to be coming and it was not very sturdy to hold the snow we decided to wait until spring to put it up. It is absolutely the most flimsy horrible thing that I have ever purchased. I am pretty sure it will not hold up winter here, the pieces don't even matches what is in the instructions manual. The pieces that are in the instruction booklet are different, they have substituted out pieces without updated the instructions. We have tons of pieces left over which we have no idea where they go? And brackets don't fit. The only thing I can say is save your money do not buy this product. If I could I would give it - Stars. ... show more
