Upon opening the small box in which this candle arrived, I knew I was going to like it. 1) I could smell the fragrance (Smoked Pistachio) through the packing material and 2) I really liked what I smelled. The cold throw was very heartening and I was guessing there was a high fragrance load as well. The scent seemed very floral with deep wood notes. If a nose had taste buds, mine were all very happy. And, yes, I'll confess, I buy a candle based upon the strength and impact of the scent. Looking nice is secondary to me. An unscented candle to me is an oxymoron. I understand the need for them – fragrance sensitivities or allergies – but I don't have either of those problems, so hit me over the bridge with that essence. This candle from Paddywax is made of soy, a clean burning and natural alternative to paraffin. And comes in a ceramic container that looks slightly French to me; a bit French and old fashioned. (On Amazon that would be known as Boho.) I'm thinking the attractive green trim helped me arrive at floral early on, now that I think of it. I don't know if it is possible, but the soy wax feels a bit oily to me indicating how much essence is in the finished product (1.0 to 1.5% per pound). The container is made, as I mentioned, of ceramic and has a matching lid. The inside of the lid is not glazed and will soot stain if you use it to put out the wicks. I am really curious to see how the dual wicks will effect the wax here. The melt pools do not seem to overlap, but they do come awfully close to each other and I have yet to have the candle lit for more than 10 minutes at a time. Paddywax, incidentally, “intentionally” designs containers to have a second life. I love the concept. Once the wax is gone from this container, they invite us to find a second purpose or life for the item. Jewelry box, trinket holder, etc.. They also invite one to shop their wares with one's eyes as well as one's nose. This particular offering is definitely a candidate for gift giving. It has substance, style and worth. Your thoughtfulness will be noted repeatedly. This is a solid product from what appears to be a solid and socially conscious company based on their product portfolio and marketing materials. I am happy to own my Smoked Pistachio (it comes in four other scents) container candle and look forward to a long lasting relationship with it. Even if I have no idea what a smoked pistachio really smells like. I'm giving this wonderful candle 5 Stars. ... show more

    • WAY over priced for a teeny candle and a future chore of removing the wax

-The current price point of about $27 USD seems quite high for a single little candle regardless of how cute the ceramic dish is. -Most people do not bother to remove the wax and clean a candle vessel after the candle is spent, so charging extra for the "privilege" of having to reuse the dish is counter-intuitive to me. -And I do usually try to save the container a candle comes in, so if I think it's annoying, people less inclined to recycle will definitely not go for it. -I would purchase this at Target or a similar retailer for a MAX of like $15 -Nice candle, luxurious smell, but the price is far too high, even as a gift lol. ... show more

This is my second candle from Paddywax and I’m still impressed. The design on this one is gorgeous in person. The soft green ceramic with the scalloped edge and glossy lid is really lovely and feels high quality. It has a nice weight to it and looks great sitting out. Definitely one I’ll reuse once the candle’s gone. The scent is incredible. I wasn’t sure what smoked pistachio would smell like, but it’s warm, creamy, and slightly smoky with a soft sweetness underneath. There’s something cozy and comforting about it without being too sweet or heavy. It’s balanced enough to work anywhere in the house and has a great throw — noticeable but not overpowering. The quality overall feels excellent. It burns evenly and cleanly with no tunneling, and the scent stays consistent as it goes. The size is on the smaller side, but the even burn and long life make up for that. Between that and the reusable ceramic, the price feels fair for what you get. It’s a great “gift drawer” candle or a thoughtful hostess gift, and honestly, I’d buy this scent again for myself. ... show more

I love pistachio in flavors and smell. And in this candle it's blended in a fresh, yet homey way. This candle is not floral/perfumey or food invoking. It also is not overly strong, but has a very bright, romantic type smell to it. The jar it comes in has great potential to become a trinket dish after the candle is gone. The only risk is chipping the edges if the lid is not replaced with care. But as with all Paddywax candles I order, this one is another win! I got the Roasted Pistachio scent and it's the perfect intensity - warm and nutty and subtle. It's very cozy and soft and I like that I can enjoy the scent without it being overpowering. The design of the ceramic body is also very cute. No label to get in the way, so it makes a great decoration as well. Seems like it will probably last a decently long time as well! This candle is much smaller than I anticipated. I do like the scent on cold sniff, but as with another candle I recently got from Paddywzx, once lit, it has absolutely no throw! I adore the little white & green ceramic dish so now I am looking forward to burning it all the way so I can use it. The candle smells delicious, both lit and unlimited. The soy burns cleanly, which is nice, and one of my favorite things is that this company designs their candle holders to be reused, so you eliminate landfill waste.
