I ordered the white thermos b/c it was on sale and not b/c I needed it but to my surprise it's really good! There are 5 parts total to cleaning, the lid is made of 4 and then there's the base. Once you follow the directions it's easy to put together, not a lot of strength needed for the assembling. I hand wash my dishes so this one was pretty easy, I use the Oxo brush for the lid parts and it does the job. The mouth is wide enough for my ice to fit so it's easier to grab. I just add water throw in some ice and I'm on my way out. On the weekends, I like to roam around with tea and it keeps it hot. The versatility of the bottle makes it that much better. Also, leakproof. Only suggestion - a handle would have me it even better so it's easier to carry. Other than that- it's a great product! ... show more

I used to own the older versions of this thermos, the ones where there was a push-down button for a plunger type seal. I used those religiously when I taught, and it would keep my hot tea hot/warm reliably during days when I wasn’t sure if I’d be getting to sip it regularly throughout the day, or be too busy to even touch it until lunchtime. Those ones would get worn out, with the plunger mechanism breaking down, but I would probably replace the thermos once a year or every other year, and I remember them costing about $20. Completely reasonable for the use I got out of it. Since they discontinued that line, I have been desperately searching for an equivalent. It wasn’t until this year, I decided to try this version out from the original company I was sworn to. The insulation capability of this line is definitely comparable, and it’s nice to have a thermos that will keep my beverage consistently hot throughout those busy days that I might not get to leisurely sip throughout the day. The lid and sealing design are definitely different, and offer some challenges that I do not like. As some other customers have noted, the twist design makes things extremely difficult whenever the container pressurizes from the hot beverage inside. I hope in future designs, they might incorporate some treading or some way to allow for a better grip on the top portion of the lid. ... show more

I've gone through a dozen insulated mugs over the last 15 years but the first day of using and washing this OXO mug I knew it was going to be my absolute favorite. It's solid, attractive, keeps hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold. Best of all, it's entirely dishwasher safe and the lid isn't an uncleanable mold-farm hellscape like nearly every other mug I've owned. I should have grabbed this one years ago. OXO is the Apple of home products; you pay handsomely for their products but 1) you get exactly what you pay for; 2) the build quality is tops; and 3) they last forever. ... show more

    • Beat Contigo, Yeti, and Stanley in my testing

I've purchased Contigo, Yeti, and Stanley bottles, among others and this OXO is the best thus far, if you're looking to transport hot beverages. Leakproof was my main concern and I test by pouring boiling water from my tea kettle into the bottle, screwing on the lid, then inverting the bottle twice. Contigo, Yeti, and Stanley bottles shockingly all started spraying out hot water through the treads there the lid screws to the bottle and in some cases though the sealed opening where you are to drink from. This OXO bottle was the only one that did not leak. In fact, when I rotated the lid to it's open position for drinking the pressure it was containing from the hot water and steam escapes like with a woosh. The others could not contain the pressure, and instead allowed the hot water to be forced out where their seals are inadequate. This I certainly didn't expect from the Yeti, but had to return it as well. I make a hot tea, of fill with coffee and put bottles in my shoulder bag, on the car seat next to me while I get organized, or under the airline seat in front of me. I don't want a bottle that leaks when hot liquid sloshes around a little inside. The lid is a little bit more difficult to clean than the Contigo, but comes apart in about the same fashion as the Yeti. The open and close position of the lid's valve achieved by rotating the lid and if has a nice red indicator inside to indicate closed position. Opening and closing for drinking requires two hands, unlike the Contigo I tried with the read push-button release, but I don't find this a problem for the way I use it, and am willing to use two hands to get a bottle that is actually leak-proof. Only improvement I can see after using it for a couple weeks is I’d prefer if the direction you rotate the upper half of the lid to allow for drinking was in the counter-clockwise direction. This is more natural when unscrewing any bottle or jar, so I find myself still having to think before opening to sip. ... show more
