Four 16-GB RAM sticks arrived at a nearby Amazon locker and I was so excited to see what my new 2019 iMac 27" would do with 64 GB of RAM at roughly 1/3 the price of Apple OEM RAM. But my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when the iMac failed to boot with the new RAM. I was ready to prepare a return shipment with Amazon, but decided to call OWC tech support first. After a brief hold, Darrin picked up my call. He said he was in a northwest Chicago suburb and I was grateful for ONSHORE support. Darrin was pleasant, articulate and was clearly not reading off a script. He had me remove the four OWC RAM sticks and wipe the contacts with rubbing alcohol (he first suggested a pencil eraser but I didn't have one). While he patiently stayed on the line I wiped the RAM, dried it off, then reinserted the sticks one at a time– booting the computer with each new stick to see if one of the sticks was faulty. Four sticks installed, four boots– and 64 GB of RAM counted by my iMac. Darrin says the memory has a lifetime warranty, my support call has been logged, and if the the RAM ever misbehaves in the future it will be replaced. Great customer experience! ... show more

Using existing 8gb Apple ram. With the screen face down and the stem of Large Apple logo facing away from you. Start from the top slot and work your way down. Install in this order. Slot 1: 4gb Apple, Slot 2: 16gb OWC, Slot 3, 4gb Apple, Slot 4: 16gb OWC. This worked for me! When done correctly, your iMac will boot up with no issues. Go to About This Mac, Memory. You should see two 16gb slots on top. Again this worked for me. I tried it in reverse order and received a prohibitory symbol when I booted up. Please see images if this is confusing. ... show more

    • Easy to install, one caveat !

Super easy to install. One caveat, install the new RAM where the old Apple RAM was and install the old Apple RAM in the new slots. I did it in the opposite way in my new 2019 iMac and I had some weird freezing errors for awhile but once I swapped them, it was no problem.

    • OWC memory won't work with installed Apple memory

10/2/19 Unfortunately, I should have realized that something was seriously wrong with this memory when I couldn't get it to work with the Apple memory installed. My iMac began to crash and reboot randomly every 30 to 90 minutes, and eventually got to the point where it wouldn't start up at all. Removing the OWC memory and replacing the original Apple memory brought my iMac back to life. I debated contacting OWC for an RMA and getting the memory replaced, but this has been my second bad experience with OWC hardware in as many months. Instead, I decided to return it and wait until Crucial has their own iMac memory kit back in stock. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ I ordered 32 GB of OWC memory for my 2019 27-inch iMac with a 3.6 GHz i9 processor. The OWC memory works fine, but if I also install the original 8 GB Apple memory, the iMac won't boot. Other people have gotten 40 GB of working memory with their iMacs using this expansion kit, but the new 2019 i9 model may be an exception. So frankly I'm not sure if this is an Apple problem or an OWC problem. And just to clarify, I tried the OWC memory in slots 0/2 with the Apple memory in slots 1/3, and vice versa. In either case, the iMac refuses to boot unless the 8 GB of Apple memory is removed. ... show more

I removed the two stock sticks of 4GB ram in my new 2019 iMac 3.0 GHz i5 and replaced them with two 16GB sticks from OWC, following instructions online (it's not difficult, but you have to know what you're doing). The computer would not start. I tried different ways (e.g., different slots). No change. I called Apple; they suggested I put the Apple ones back in and try the new ram again the following day, so the computer could get used to its initial memory (ok). After putting the Apple ram back in, it booted it up no problem, and I installed all the usual software. The following day, I tried again to install the OWC ram. Once again it did not work. There's no question it's in there correctly. Also, Apple told me it *should* work (it's stamped 2666 DDR4). However, it does not work. Returning, and leaving this review to try and spare you an hour or so of stress. ... show more

I recently bought a 27" iMac and really wanted to get it with at least 32GB of ram for Lightroom and Photoshop CC. Apple charges an additional $500 to upgrade the iMac from the base 8GB to 32GB, plus upgrading from the standard configuration for the iMac delays the shipping date. So I ordered the standard pre-configured iMac with 8GB, and ordered an additional 32GB from OWC. Installing the ram only takes 10-minutes and my iMac now has 40GB (8GB from Apple + the 32GB from OWC) and I saved $300 over Apple's price for 32GB total ram! ... show more

Awesome support from OWC after a poor experience with Corsair Vengeance memory. OWC RAM worked perfectly in my machine and I felt confident ordering after a bad experience with Corsair. Corsair was advertised at 2666 but could only be achieved with overclocking, otherwise stuck at 2400 Mhz and slowing the rest of my iMac RAM down as well. OWC support was friendly, knowledgeable. I bought a 16 GB single stick to go with 2x4 GB original sticks and they said this would be fine despite the RAM not being equal, but I wanted to keep my options of adding additional 16 GB sticks in the future up to a total of 64 GB. Just popped the back of my new 2019 5K iMac and tossed these in. Be sure to stagger the slots they go in, so either 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, and then fill the other staggered slots with existing ram (if you have any). Turned on comp for first time and it recognized the memory, putting me at 40GB which includes the 8GB that came with the comp. Good stuff! ... show more
