I bought the Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle (24 oz) for my 12-year-old daughter, and it has been a total win. She absolutely loves it, and I do too—for a lot of good reasons. If you’re looking for a high-quality water bottle that actually makes hydration easy and fun (yes, that’s possible), this is the one. Thoughtful Design & Amazing Sip Options The feature that really makes this bottle stand out is the FreeSip lid. It has both a built-in straw and a wide-mouth opening, so you can drink two different ways. My daughter loves using the straw when she’s on the go, and when she’s really thirsty or refilling at home, she just tilts it back and chugs like a regular bottle. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference in how often she actually uses the bottle. She even mentioned it feels “cooler” to drink from than her old one. Perfect Size for School and Sports The 24 oz size is ideal for a kid. It holds enough water to get through most of the school day or a sports practice without being bulky or too heavy. It fits easily into backpack pockets, cup holders, and even the side pouch of her dance bag. She’s taken it to school, dance class, and weekend outings, and it’s always the first thing she grabs when heading out the door. Keeps Water Cold All Day This bottle really performs when it comes to insulation. It keeps water cold for hours—literally from morning until late afternoon, even on warm days. My daughter actually gets excited to take a sip and feel how cold the water still is. That’s a big improvement from some of the cheaper plastic bottles we’ve used in the past. Durable and Kid-Proof Kids drop things. A lot. This bottle has held up incredibly well. The stainless steel body is sturdy and the powder-coated finish hasn’t chipped, even after being tossed into lockers and dropped a few times. It still looks nearly brand new. The lid closes securely and hasn’t leaked once, even when it’s rolling around in a backpack. Cute Colors That Kids Love Owala really nailed it with their color choices. We got the “Shy Marshmallow” (pastel blue and peach), and it’s adorable without being too childish. The color combo is one of my daughter’s favorite things about the bottle—it feels stylish and fun, which means she actually wants to carry it around. Easy to Clean The lid design might look complex at first, but it’s surprisingly easy to take apart and clean. We usually rinse it by hand, but the bottle is dishwasher safe on the top rack, which is a huge bonus. I've had this for over a year now and it's definitely the best water bottle ever. It’s insulated, sturdy, secure, attractive, and the free sip + straw design is amazing. I’ve never been a big straw person and previous was using the Thermos Alta water bottle—I loved it at the time and always preferred an open spout to a straw, but I had so many accidents with it popping open in my bag because I often forgot to lock it. Eventually, I lost it and got this one. The Owala locks securely as long as you just put the handle down. Even when I forget to put the handle down, it usually doesn't open because the button takes a bit of force to press. I figured I would primarily use the spout option, but ended up falling in love with the straw. Unlike other options, it doesn’t stick out of the bottle and is super easy to clean. The straw is wide so you can easily suck up a lot of liquid. I wanted a bottle that was attractive for the office and a balance between holding a substantial amount of water and still fitting in my bag and car cupholder. I have the 24 oz version in Foggy Tide, which fits the bill. I find I drink more water using this, so I do have to refill throughout the day, but it’s great. It keeps my water cold and I add 3 big ice cubes in the morning, which last through the day as I refill the water. Even my 2-year-old LOVES the straw function and it’s easy for her to use. She has her own water bottle with a silicone straw, but always begs for mine instead. I think the 24 oz would be too cumbersome for her to use regularly on her own, but I’m considering getting her a 16 oz kid one since she loves it so much. My only issue is that if she knocks it over, I really don’t want it to spill everywhere. 32oz. Photos for size comparison, next to my 32oz iron flask. Freesip is narrower and taller and looks more naturally sized, it fits better in my smaller hands. It is also lighter than the iron, and seems to keep drinks cold for a lot longer (24hrs vs 12hrs). I LOVE this bottle as much as one could love a water bottle. The straw mouthpiece is uniquely shaped and very ergonomic on the lips, it doesnt require you to contort your mouth like a normal straw (which can cause dental problems fyi). Because of the lid design im more inclined to close it every time, others i will partially close which may be why it keeps things colder as well. The spring when opening is perfect, not too aggressive but not weak either, same for the latch which gives a confidence inspiring click. I like the secondary lock that goes over it too as it doubles as a carrying handle and also slows the lid opening down some giving it a buffer like a slow close cabinet. Condensation free as advertised and provides for good grippiness. Some are bothered by the lid being in front of your nose but i use it as a reminder to clean. If it smells bad that is a sign of bacteria. The singular critique i have is that the lid looks like a weakpoint and i worry it could break if dropped in the wrong way. Lastly regarding the price, while it may seem "expensive" for a water bottle, it is priced that way because it will last for a long time. How else could a company survive with you using the same water bottle for years. Ps if you use carbonated beverages, after some time the pressure will build up and it will shoot out like a volcano the next time you open it.
