  • Well Made bag for outings where base is not far
Color: Black
Last summer I hiked to Mermaid's Chair in St. Thomas. It's not a stressful walk except that the blazing sun requires both frequent water stops and a regular refresh of sunscreen. The destination also requires a quick change from hiking boots to water shoes, a light snack, etc. and of course there needs to be a place to carry phones, keys, wallet and the like. Last winter we went skiing, hiking, and exploring in the mountains. Again hydration, also lip balm, a thermos of hot cider, change of socks, and all the little things of life. My hydration pack got a lot of use and finally fell apart during the trip to the islands. I left it behind and have been seeking a replacement. Enter the 18L OutdoorMaster Hydration Pack, which I strongly recommend. Here's why I like it so much: - 18L capacity is not large, but I don't need it to be. For that I have my 30L. This hits that sweet spot of not carrying too much (and no, sweet child, I will not carry your jacket either - I told you that you did not need it and now here you are, so wear it like an albatross and learn from the experience) and having the right options for gear. - A 2L hydration bladder fits snugly inside the rear lining, with a really nice enclosure for the mouthpiece. I've not had that option before and will never accept less in a bag again. - The included rain covering for the bag is a great plus. - The main compartment is large enough for pretty much everything I need with me on a 2-6 hour journey where I want to go light and fast. For a subjective measurement, the base of the internal pocket is just shy of four pickleballs wide. - The top compartment is felted and soft, keeping valuables a little more protected. - The overall construction is sturdy. Stitching feels solid, buckles are not cheap junk, and the straps have a lot of play in them for adjustment. - I really like the orange tac loops on the bag as well, allowing me to clip on anything that fits a Carbiener. Nice little bag for the grab and go. Don't try to make this something it isn't, and you'll be very pleased. ... show more

  • Good bag, but no water bladder and high price
Color: Black
Item: OutdoorMaster Snow Hydration Pack, 18L Sport Travel Backpack for Snowboard, Ski, Hiking - Made from Recycled Materials Packaging: Packaging was ok. It was sealed in a plastic bag and put into a larger bag for shipping. The item itself was not at much risk of shipping damage unless something sharp poked through it. Material Quality: The material quality is a nylon-like material similar to most outdoor gear. Some of the straps and pockets are made of a thick fabric or probably more nylon. The strap buckles are plastic. Assembly/Build Quality: The overall build is pretty good. It seems really sturdy and well made. Stitching looks good and robust. Marketing Material: The images posted with this listing (at the time of this review) represent the product well. There is no misrepresenting here and everything is as it looks in the picture. It is hard to tell form the pictures but it does have several little pockets and compartments which is nice and of course the main space for the water bladder. Functionality: The bag functions as you would expect. It fits well and is comfortable. It can be adjusted to fit you so you can make it as comfortable as you need. The bladder compartment has a hole where the straw part comes out to make it accessible. The only down side is that it does not come with a water bladder. The listing does state this but I don’t remember seeing it when I ordered it so just be forewarned. Price: This item is listed (at the time of this review) for $37.99 sale price (49.99 actual). This price is definitely high compared to other similar products and to make things worse is that other products that are actually a little cheaper also include a water bladder so I have to knock off a couple starts here. Likes: I like the fit, it is comfortable. Dislikes: I am disappointed that it does not come with a water bladder, especially for the asking price. Overall: Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product while it is at this price. If it came with a water bladder, yes. I would have no issues recommending it because the bag itself is decent. Even the sale price is too high since it has no water bladder. If you have your own water bladder then I would say wait for a steep discount before going for this one. ... show more

  • Great quick day pack for ski or hike
Color: Black
My wife picked this up for me to replace an older hydration pack which had seen it's best days. Usre the pack for daily Aloine touring trips up the hill behind our house for some aerobic activity and a few fresh turns. The pack holds just enough to accommodate my essential items,, extra googles, knit hat, puffy, extra gloves, ski crampons, a small towel, small first aid kit and a headlamp. There is an independent pocket for the googles, and the back panel zips open to access a space for a hydration pack. This space is perfect for the skins used to transition up the hill. When removed to ski down. I fold the skins and snug them into this space, away from any other items if they happen to be wet, and against my back where they can warm up a bit on the ski down. Material seems rugged enough for light use, zipper are adequaye. Two side mesh pockets will hold a water bottle, snacks, or other extra items, especially for a summer hike where exposure to cold is not an issue..A great, light pack for shorter day hikes. ... show more
