We took a family ski trip to Colorado this past spring break. We enjoy skiing but don’t live close enough to be avid skiers. We wanted to purchase our own helmets and the price of this one was enticing. Went through multiple reviews and research to determine which snowboarding helmet was best for my parameters - casual snowboarding and keeping my brain intact. Prior to purchasing this helmet, I did call OutdoorMaster and they were very accommodating and answered my questions. They were very excited about their product as well. I ordered it from Amazon and it came in a plastic bag. It was packaged to deter damage, so it did arrive in good condition, but it was packaged in a plastic bag. A couple nice aspects to this helmet are: there is a dial on the back that allows you to turn and provide a proper fit, the inside is fleece lined and there is a fleece "sock" covering the chin strap, and the goggle's hook on the back is made of rubber and snaps to the helmet so your goggles won't be left on the hill with the rest of the yard sale. Finally, this helmet kept my head and ears warm so I didn't have to wear anything underneath. I went snowboarding when the temps were in the teens, and my head/ears were nice and warm. ... show more

I have never written a product review on something I bought from Amazon until now. I’m a novice snowboarder who made a questionable decision to go snowboarding on a small local mountain in New Jersey the day after an ice storm. The mountain is super small and I was on the green trail when I hit a sheet of ice and went airborne and fell directly on the back of my head harder than I ever had in my life. I’ve played football in high school and pee wee and have fell many times, never ever as hard as I did. I fell directly on the back of my head and heard nothing but my head hitting the ice/ground. I laid there thinking, am I seriously hurt? To my disbelief I was perfectly fine. No headache, nothing. Just a sore neck the next day. This helmet seriously saved me from a catastrophic head injury and I could not be more thankful. The helmet is fine too. Amazing product for the price. Do not go snowboarding or skiing without a helmet. It will save your life possibly. ... show more

Overall, the helmet is decent and workable. My main issue with it is that the ear pads are too far back. They barely cover the front of our ears (we had 4 people try it) and there is a lot of coverage behind our ears. Not a deal breaker, but not great. Also, it would be nice to have foldover flaps at least to cover the top vents in extreme cold. For twice as much, in a name brand, you get more comfortable interior fabric, closing vents and ear pads that fit better. But for this lower price, you get protection, reasonable comfort, and a workable helmet solution. ... show more

Seems nice so far. Won't be able to test for a few months until next ski season. Quality is great for 50$. Sizing is small. I'm 5'9 205 lbs, and the large is about perfect with the adjustment knob set all the way out. It will fit a very thin balaclava underneath. If you have a thicker base layer, I'd go a size bigger than you'd expect. I could almost go xl, but think this will be perfect. You won't beat the quality for the price. Smacked my head pretty good on the chair lift and it only left a small brown scuff (shown in picture). I went skiing yesterday in 0 degrees Fahrenheit and the head portion was warm and caused me to sweat pretty good. There was no option to open up vents like I’ve had before. The ear covers are not that warm and the wind penetrated them pretty good, causing me to have ear aches and cold ears. It’s stylish and durable. I was worried me hitting my head might scuff up the white and make it look bad, but you can’t even tell. This helmet would be great for 20 degree weather. Anything warmer and your head will sweat terribly. Anything colder and your ears will hurt from the cold. ... show more

I purchased this in preparation for a several day ski trip vs renting a helmet which would have cost about the same as just buying my own. The adjustment strap worked for achieving a snug fit, and the interior lining was warm enough for my needs. With the ear flaps’ thick lining and interior lining wrapping about the head, I was able to forgo a any head covering under the helmet. ... show more
