  • Lightweight but beware of sizing
Color: Matte White Size: Large
The helmet seems to be reasonably well made and light weight. However my head is 23.5 inches, just above the boundary of their "Medium" and "Large" size description. I started with the large. It was comically loose and hanging over my eyes even with everything tightened down to the max. Then I optimistically tried the medium. It was uncomfortably tight. Returned both. Definitely worth a try if you are right in the middle of their size ranges. ... show more

  • Comfortable but may run a bit large
Color: Matte Orange Size: Large
Over the years, I've had a few rock hits but most head bangs have been from tree branches. Either way, this one gives good head coverage. It covers the entire occipital bone in the back and most of the temples. Luckily, the flaps over the ears are removable as personally, I don't like my ears covered. They snap in if you want sun protection or some ear scrape protection as they are a harder flexible material. The interior is lined with a soft closed cell rubber, making it very comfortable. However, I measured myself to be 23.5" or so and ordered an "L" size as it suggested "[between sizes] we strongly recommend sizing up to the larger size." The "M" size went up to 23.2" and "L" size started at 23.2". There's a "Twist to tighten" dial on the back, like with many ski helmets, and I had to screw it down all the way to get a snug fit. There is still a bit of play side to side but not enough to worry about. but it's a bit large. The exterior is a full-cut (but open ear) flexible hard ABS plastic, the type of which I've worn for years. There are 6 holes on the top, 2 on the back, and 4 on the front for quick roll-up drainage. The chin strap is a heavy nylon with a removable pad. The extra thickness resists twisting which can be annoying with thinner straps. With the ear flaps it weighs 13.2oz (376g) making it one of the lightest kayak helmets. Removing the ear flaps and it's 12.3oz (350g). The only thing missing is a face guard, which many boaters can do without (except JM, who "Broken Nose" rapid on the Ocoee was named after). This helmet gives better protection than the helmet I now use and compares with in price and features to a Pro-Tec Classic. Just be aware of the size if you measure near the cross-over points. An "M" may have fit better. 4 stars ... show more

  • Good helmet for a beginning kayaker
Color: Matte White Size: Medium
I am a whitewater kayaker, and have been for over 40 years. A helmet is an important piece of safety gear (almost as important as a personal flotation device); I know this because I've broken two helmets over the years and have numerous nicks and dings in my present helmet from rocks. NOTE: My present helmet is not from OutdoorMaster). This OutdoorMaster helmet is a good helmet for a beginning whitewater kayaker. It's got good closed-cell foam inside a semi-rigid plastic shell that would provide protection from the bumps that a beginner is likely to take. I like the fact that the helmet is easily adjustable with a dial that can tighten or loosen it within a range. I also like the fact that it comes with ear protection (these pads were not snapped in when I got the helmet, but I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone purchasing a helmet like this install the pads -- I've seen several people with bashed-up ears because their helmets did not have ear protection, and I would not wear a helmet that did not protect my ears). I believe that the helmet provides adequate protection for a beginning paddler (typically someone who does not know how to roll a boat and who is not going to be inside the boat for long if it is upside down). I got this helmet to have as a piece of equipment that I can lend out when I take beginners paddling with me. It's also a spare in my equipment bag on longer trips. For someone who is likely to be experiencing rapids in an inverse position (that is, someone who's willing to stay upside down in a rapids and perhaps take a few knocks before rolling), a heavier-duty (and considerably-more-expensive) helmet is probably worth investing in, but for a beginning kayaker, this OutdoorMaster is a good helmet and I recommend it. ... show more

  • Ok
Color: Matte White Size: Medium
I got this helmet for casual biking. My main complaints are the interior material is stiff and the helmet doesn’t conform to my head so it hurts after prolong wearing. I also feel the front can extend a bit more to forehead for better protection. Other than that this is a lightweight simple helmet that offers sufficient protection for casual sporting. ... show more

  • Hasn't Broken Yet!
This seems like a good case for its class. The corners are reinforced and have extra hight so if dropped, it won't break. Actually, the entire case has a risen edge to protect it from breaking. The back and sides are nicely textured. The whole case feels soft, not hard. The buttons work great. It looks good, fits well, and is fairly light in weight. All- in-all, a good case. ... show more

  • Definitely not for biking
I was looking around for a warm helmet with minimal ventilation for winter riding with minimal effort. This helmet is not for that (LOL). Fit/Comfort: It is definitely comfortable. Considering how deep it is and so many touch points, it fits my head well. It would be much more comfortable and fitting if some extra padding is provided to fill spaces. Weight: Definitely lightweight and hence my conclusion that this is NOT for biking. If you have a ponytail (with thick hair), this helmet will NOT be comfortable. The tightening mechanism only works on the back of the head which may cause some headache after a long wear. ... show more

  • Somewhat flexible
Color: Matte Orange Size: Large
I'm not entirely sure about this helmet. It flexes a bit more than other helmets I have used. The outer plastic shell flexes, and the inner layer is a cushioned foam unlike the rigid foam than I see on most helmets. It's definitely more comfortable for this reason, but I'd have to do more research before I trust it to perform better in an impact than the tried-and-true rigid foam. It also runs a bit large. It's looser on my head than other helmets marketed as a "large" size. ... show more
